Summer will soon be here, lunches?

Posted: Apr 15, 2013

Need some ideas about the kids for this summer. I work the 2nd shift so after breakfast need something that will be easy for me to "throw" together and not spend time on. These kids are young, 1 going into middle school, but they will eat most things, not picky. I would like to have something fixed before I start my midday work day. ;

Well, if they aren't picky - sm

You could make a big pot of chili, soup or spaghetti and they could eat it for a couple of days, or a big pot of beef stew. Put a roast in the crock pot with veggies and they could just eat when done. Cook a pork roast in the crock pot early and make pulled BBQ pork sandwiches. Get hotdogs and let them make them or tuna fish, fish sticks, etc.

My favorite quick lunch - see msg

Glad they're not picky. I throw some chopped meat into a pan, stir it around and brown it and throw some seasoned salt in there, or just salt and pepper is fine if you don't have seasoned salt. Seasoned salt just makes it more interesting.

Take some Velveeta-type cheese, melt that all through, then squirt a bunch of ketchup in there---voi la, Sloppy Joes, sort of. Serve on hamburger buns or hot dog rolls.

For mine which are about the same age as yours, I make them grilled cheese. I also do chicken noodle soup in the crockpot and then it can heat that up for a few days, and chili. Also, I buy peanut butter and marshmallow fluff and they make sandwiches. I usually have fruit in the summer like apples, pears, bananas. My daughter loves Nutella. I usually have that and she has it with crackers.

What I've also done this past year for breakfast was make egg cups in a muffin tin with sausage and egg but ham and cheese worked well too and they can be heated up.

I will admit, I love Pinterest. There are so many ideas on there, and I've been able to plan meals, a shopping list, and it's so much less stress.

Oh... another easy one is french bread pizza. Just buy a loaf, some cheese, a little jar of sauce and pop them in the oven for a hot minute. They go over really well especially if I have pepperoni on them.

Should be sm for see message inside... - ooops! NM

Google crockpot recipes. Seriously, I use mine a lot. A great breakfast is the night before, cut up apples and put them in the crock pot, sprinkle cinnamon, 1 cup oatmeal (I like steel cut, but don't use instant here). 1 cup water and 1 cup milk. Turn on low overnight and in the AM a good nutritious breakfast!!!

Do they like egg salad? That would be - easy for them to

slap on a sandwich. Some carrot sticks and sliced peppers on the side? Or fruit salad?

Here lunches are very, very simple. They have the option of leftovers, or--sm - anon

a sandwich. My 6 year old can make his own peanut butter sandwich and asks the older ones for help if need be. They are required to eat a piece of fruit or a vegetable (carrot sticks, cucumbers, clementines, apples, bananas, cherry tomatoes, etc) and then the nicer meal comes at dinner. I work a split shift and the first part starts at 11 and I am too busy trying to get other things done to worry much about lunches.

Apple chunks - Dipped in Peanut Butter

Let them do the dipping, it's more fun than if you put the PB already on the chunks.

Need Ideas For Packing Lunches For My Daughter.Sep 20, 2015
My daughter just started high school this year and has decided that she does not want to eat school lunches anymore.  She claims they make her stomach hurt.  She can't give a specific food that causes her stomach problems just all school lunches do.  So fine, I don't mind packing her a lunch everyday.  I'm not a big fan of the school lunches anyway.  My daughter gets free lunches at school because we qualify as I'm a single mom, so I thought we should ...

Out Of School Ideas For Summer?May 22, 2013
Hi all, My son's last day of school is today.  Looking for some fun, inexpensive ideas to keep him busy at home and for both of us when we can be on the go! I don't want video games and/or TV watching to be the main ingredient of his summer days. We don't have any kids in the area his age to play with, and he is the only one at home anymore so no siblings to play with. He is 10 and it is hard to keep him from getting bored and wanting to "veg" all day. Any ideas appreciated ...

Kids Visiting In Summer, Still Having To WorkApr 12, 2013
and I am one who works straight through without taking time out of the day. I know I can get Netflix for them, they have their Ipads, can get some crafty things to make and some games like puzzles and the lot. I know this sounds like a lot to me but I don’t want them bored to tears. We are planning trips while they are here but then the work days are still hanging around in between.
