North Fort Myers, FL ?s...SM

Posted: Apr 5, 2014

I'm thinking of relocating from New England in the next 1-2 years.  My father and stepmother lived at Del Turra for over 20 years, and I visited every year and really liked the place.  My father predeceased my stepmother, and she left the house to her niece, so I was out of luck there.  Anyway, does anyone in the area know of over- 55 manufactured home developments they could recommend?  I'd even consider a condo if the price was right.  I don't want to restrict myself to Del Turra, although I am leaning strongly toward it.  I've done web searches already but would really like personal recommendations.  It is too early to contact realtors directly, as I am going to have to sell my house here first before I know what I can afford.  Thanks for any ideas.

I am planning on moving to the Ft. Myers area in the next year or two myself. Although I won't be able to afford to buy anything, I'd have to rent, I'm curious about rents down there and maybe what areas to avoid.

I googled and found lots of rental info...SM - Old Anon

I entered "North Fort Myers apartment rentals" and got lots of information. There seem to be more rentals in Fort Myers and Cape Coral though. I just looked quickly and saw rents in the $600s to $1100 dollar range. Check it out.

Thank you - mt2north

I lived there for years. In general avoid the NE Ft Myers area and Tice. The rest of the area including Cape Coral is okay.

Warning though. The summer months are almost unbearable. The humidity is extremely high and the mosquitos are horrific. The summer weather is much more bearable in the central and northern parts of the state.

Husband and I are thinking of retiring to Ft. Myers in 2 years, and sister too. Googling lots of apartments and "apt. reviews" to get the scoop on which are good. It seems a nice one-bedroom is $700ish. I've read about Del Turra and Tara Woods and Solstice Serendipity mfg. home communities and they look nice. Husband is not interested because the land is leased and he said it could be expensive land leasing fees. I said lets take a look at them, because the homes are very reasonable. I loved vacationing a few weeks ago at Ft. Myers Beach. Gorgeous sunsets and powdery beach sand!

Del Turra lot lease...SM - Old Anon

The houses are reasonable, anywhere from $29,000 to $100,000 depending on the age of the manufactured home and the shape its in. Lot leases vary a lot too. I saw a few listed in the older parts of Del Turra for between $400 and $700 a month but most are in the $800-$900 range. The last time I was there, 4-5 years ago, the facilities were still beautifully maintained, and it's a gated community.

We'll check out Del Turra! - Hatchery

Thanks for the great info about Del Turra. We'll check it out next time we go to Ft. Myers. $400-$700 is reasonable, especially without a mortgage to pay. Another friend said mfg. homes aren't sturdy, but they look nice to me. I also was looking at Landmark in Naples -that looked really nice, too.

Another suggestion - nn

I just relocated back to FL from the Midwest (was gone for about 10 months). NFM is not a bad area, but I would also check out Port Charlotte or Punta Gorda -- smaller areas, but still close to FM. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the suggestion...SM - Old Anon

I have spent time in both areas, and yes they are very nice. My stepmother's cousin has/had a house in Punta Gorda, and we used to drive up to Port Charlotte to go the Olive Garden once in a while. There was also an outlet mall somewhere in that area. North Fort Meyers seems to be a good base point for going either north or south for activities/shopping, and I tended to head north more often because there was less traffic and a smaller town feel than Fort Myers. Thanks again.

I have to admit, the judge's reasoning makes sense: "Forced shaving is not a novel concept in the military,’’ military attorneys said in the judge’s response filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. ‘‘Army regulations expressly authorize nonconsensual haircutting and face-shaving for recalcitrant incarcerated soldiers. … If the judge has authority to bind and gag a disruptive accused (soldier), then certainly he has authority to forcibly shave (Hasan).’’ ...

Fort Hood Heroes Finally Get RecognitionApr 10, 2015
Much to the dismay of the Muslim in the WH, the Fort Hood terrorist attack committed by a Muslim is finally acknowledged for what it was: A terrorist act, NOT workplace violence. This is another thing I find unbelievably disgusting...these soldiers were wounded and killed by a fellow soldier who admittedly was in contact with Anwar al-Awlaki. Obama should be ashamed of himself for this lack of consideration for our boys. Remember how he treated the incident at a speech (read last paragraph).    On November 5, 2009, Staff Sgt. Shawn Manning was shot six times by Maj. Nidal Hasan while he was serving on-duty at Ft. Hood in Temple, Texas, in what becam ...

I live in the south.  How does Thanksgiving dinner differ from the northern states to the sourthern ones?  From east to west?  Here in the south we have the usual turkey like everyone does.  We have the cornbread dressing (stuffing), chicken and dumplings, veggies, no steamed ones though, we don't eat much steamed veggies around here.  They are boiled with meat seasoning such as bacon or ham, etc.  We have the broccoli casserole.  We also have baked ham.& ...
