states. I am looking for somewhere that has affordable housing, decent jobs and a somewhat small town. I would like Montana or Wyoming preferably, but really any northernmost state would be great!!;

Last winter we had very little snow (not the norm), but maybe global warming is working to our advantage up here! North Dakota is truly an undiscovered jewel.

What is it about the way north you like so much? It doesn't sound like it's to be close to family, because you're very open on as to where way north.

Not poking fun or judging, just really curious. I have never lived that far north (lived in New York, New Jersey, Michigan) and couldn't even stand those winters. I ended up moving to FL.

Well, enjoy. I need warmth and ocean near me, and hate driving in the snow and ice, though once I started doing MT from home, the driving part was only a problem if I had an appt in a snow storm.

People who like to ski love the far north as well.

I live in Missoula. Housing here is okay, but pay isn't that great unless you're a professional of some sort, like a professor at the college here or something. If you were to come to Montana I would recommend Missoula, Bozeman, Kalispell. These cities are in the western part of the state. The eastern part is ugly but has more jobs and better pay.

I live in Minnesota, approximately 90 miles away from Canada, and 22 miles away from North Dakota. Having two kids, I would recommend Minnesota. We have very low crime where I live, pay is decent, housing is affordable, Minnesota has one of the best medical insurance coverages as far as what is paid for, etc. If you want more info, private message me and I'll share more info with you.

Didn't want my reply to get buried below. I have a lifetime of experience with Alaska, western Canada (Alberta, BC), and the Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, ID) - and youth spent in the midwest (MO, KS). I put some warm material outside and made a little bed for the neighbor's cat. They tell me outside cat only but it is really cold here. I have a DIL who has offered a heating pad that could keep kitty warm but sort of concerned in that I would have to run an extension cord from my garage to the front porch. I swear by Berkinstock shoes, have probably 6 or 7 pairs of those and I like the fact that I have good support for my arches, no problem there.
