Outside kitty needing some warmth and do you

I put some warm material outside and made a little bed for the neighbor's cat. They tell me outside cat only but it is really cold here. I have a DIL who has offered a heating pad that could keep kitty warm but sort of concerned in that I would have to run an extension cord from my garage to the front porch. I would have on low heat but was questioning whether anyone else had tried this and if it worked. I sent off for a kitty mat warmer for a cat but it really lacked any kind of heat so have returned that. ;

It's made out of pine or cedar and its shredded, better at providing heat. You can make a container out of a litter box with a lid, or even just a box that won't get wet...

This was made out of hard plastic and nonchewable. However, if it is not exposed to the weather elements of rain, ice, snow, I think it would be okay to use other heating pad provided kitty does not chew. Also a heavy outdoor extension cord for outdoors.

Without heat, I think a small enclosure just larger than the cat would be best with some straw to burrow in. Keep the cat's body heat in. Even some sort of box with blankets thrown on top.

We used to put the heat pad inside the dog house. The dog house was insulated with a window and a doggy door. Buster loved it.

My own kitty is an indoor cat, but I also try to look out for a couple of the friendly outdoor cats in my neighborhood with some food and now some extra warmth on my porch during the cold months. Check out these microwavable heating pads. The cats simply LOVE them. Nothing has to be plugged in anywhere. The pad stays warm for several hours, and I've noticed that even when they cool down from being heated in the microwave that when the cats lie on them their own body heat actually will be reflected back to them from the corn in the pads, so they will be warm even late the next morning.

Put on a swing door and provide shredded paper bedding, and it's small enough for a cat's body heat to keep it warm. If there is a really bitter night, you could put in a hot water bottle or earthenware pig bed warmer.

Other shelter ideas in the 2nd link--lining the inside of some of the less expensive approaches with one of those reflective survival space blankets might also work.

It may be a duplicate of some of the suggsetions already offered, but it's a really good article and I know a girl around here who does pet rescue who used this idea.

Activate and use Thermacare wraps under a few layers of towels or blanket. I've used this with feral kittens and it works well. And shame on those people for leaving their own cat outside in the cold!

We also keep a cat not in there just in case. The cat keeps mice at bay that way too, as we live in country.

I swear by Berkinstock shoes, have probably 6 or 7 pairs of those and I like the fact that I have good support for my arches, no problem there.
