Men of a Certain Age -- excellent show

Posted: Feb 1, 2010

Just love this new show!  I've been following it since it started and it only gets better.  It is so smart and clever and well written.  I so look forward to Monday nights.  What gets me is choosing which new series to start watching and then hoping it doesn't get canceled.  Or not starting with a new series and then it ends up being a huge hit.  Just can't win when it comes to that.  If you haven't seen it, you gotta catch it -- tonight at 10...

This is a great new show. Love the opening sequence showing them as kids and the Beach Boys opening sound track. It's good to see Andrew Braugher and Scott Bakula again. Hope this show sticks around. With Ray Romano as producer, I think it has a good shot. Who knows why shows go off the air. So many really great shows don't even last a season... one of my pet peeves. I think this show will be around for a while! Keeping my fingers crossed.

I find the show sort of pathetic and sad, love scott bacula, why I watched it, missed last two episodes because lost interest, hate seeing andrew braugher in such a dismal role, but wathced the last 40 minutes tonight, maybe will watch it some more if no other conflicts, now a show worth watching was Saving Grace, unfortunately last 9 episodes will be its last, I think it lasted 2-1/2 seasons, all time favorite recent show on tv, love holly hunter

I enjoy this show too. I read last week that is has been renewed for a 2nd season. However, I am so mad because I missed it last night! For some reason I have a terrible time remembering this is on Monday nights and then I have to watch it on-line (which I hate) later.
You could always wait for the DVD of season 1... - clunybrown

I would hate having to watch it online after having sat in front of the computer for 8+ hours. I guess it might be different with a laptop though (which I don't have). A good way of catching up with shows is just renting the DVDs from Netflix, etc. You have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. Last night's episode was a little intense with the story line about Ray's loan shark. He was right out of the Sopranos. Only 2 more episodes until the season's end. Hate the abbreviated seasons. I long for the days of a whole season, i.e., 22 or so episodes (like ER).
will watch - sm

Nope, I can just watch on-line. I can suck it up! I don't want to wait for the DVDs because I will want to watch the rest of the season as it unfolds now. I watch a lot of shows through the DVDs but I'd rather watch for free when I can. LOL
Free is always good :) (nm) - clunybrown

This is a really interesting and well-written show.

Of course, there are only going to be 2 more episodes before the first "season" is over - this is what the station announced last night.

Sigh.........it will probably be cancelled. So many really good shows just disappear like that.

But we have been enjoying this one a lot.

it has been renewed - sm

I just read the other day that it has been renewed for a 2nd season. If I can remember where I read it I'll post the information.

Did Anyone Catch The Beck Show? Not His Usual ShowNov 13, 2009
If anyone didn't catch it, I'd encourage you to watch it this weekend.  It wasn't his usual show that everyone hates.  He had an audience (not sure if there were any white people, mostly African-American) and they were talking about issues and problems.  Most of them voted for Obama and they discussed issues going on.  It was very interesting. One guy showed Obama where he grew up in the Harlam and what it was like for him growing up.  It was just a very g ...

Same-sex Marriage. Excellent Dec 02, 2009
A right to say 'I do'By Richard CohenTuesday, December 1, 2009 The truth is that if Maj. Nidal Hasan, the accused killer of 13 people at Fort Hood, had entered the officers club there with a nice handbag on his arm, perhaps a Gucci tote, he would have been out of the Army by the end of the week. Since he was merely antisocial, a misfit, an incompetent psychiatrist and a likely Islamic fanatic, he was retained and promoted. This says something about America. On the subject of gays, we a ...

The President Has An ExcellentMay 05, 2014
Just love this line from the press corp dinner:   Well, Obama told a few jokes about himself, the media and healthcare.gov. But he also joked about Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, including: “Let's face it, Fox, you'll miss me when I'm gone. It will be harder to convince the American people that Hillary was born in Kenya.”Hysterical.   Meanwhile the shrill right is desperate to tie Benghazi to O to a coverup to protect his reelection bid,&n ...

Excellent WatchApr 13, 2015
Since I don't have cable, and busy so am usually late with catching up on the news.  I found this video and this is exactly what people have been saying. The country is ready for a woman president, just not "that" women.  I've said for a long time she is only out for herself and she tramples on anyone who she thinks will get in her way.  Like the Judge said in this video, "it's never her fault" (however, it IS her fault).  "She didn't know" (my foot) and ...

This Is An Excellent Example Of US InterventionJul 30, 2017
The US and Saudi Arabia created the oil glut that devestated Venezuela's economy.  My fear is that we are planning takeover as Venezuela has immense oil reserves.  Who will we install this time?   You can think about this analysis or you can keep buying the "but socialism destroyed them" story you have been sold by your "patriotic" wholesome USA, USA, USA chanters.   The whole situation makes me sick that many point fingers at the end result and use it to justify the ...

Excellent Resource For Job-huntersSep 26, 2016
I found this excellent website, HumanWorkplace.com, which has a sister FB site and articles on LinkedIn. Liz Ryan was in HR and a recruiter and is now on her own. I've used some of her tips, such as the "human voice resume" and how to answer stupid questions typically asked (Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What's your biggest weakness?) and have gotten more interviews than ever. I love how she empowers the job-seeker to be on par with the interviewers, instead of the interview b ...

Excellent Summary -reasons Done Talking To Feb 11, 2015
1. You support revisionist history. When I was in a high school history class, I’ll never forget one thing our teacher taught us: what you read in history books isn’t always accurate. The example she used was history books in the Soviet Union, now known as Russia. She informed us, to my shock and horror, that the Soviets pretty much included what they liked in the history books and left out everything else. As a result, she said, there were generations of Russian students who were m ...

Fascinating TV Show From 60sNov 09, 2009
Just happened to switch to a channel showing 60s version of a 'Boston Legal' type show.  Came in on the middle of the show but the plot was about a man who lost everything he had ever worked for because of an illness he could not pay for - no insurance or insuffienty insurance (not clear). Not only was he dying from the disease, he was crushed by the financial disaster his illness caused. What I was so struck by was the closing statement:  And remember this show w ...

Tickets To A ShowNov 16, 2009
OK, here is the deal.... I have a 20 y/o and a 13 y/o and the holidays are soon approaching.  I always get a family gift we can all enjoy; last year it was the Wii.  This year I thought it would be fun to get tickets to see a family show and Disney on Ice is way too young for my kids and some shows are over my 13 year old's head... so I am thinking Blue Man Group or Stomp.  Of course I live in a little podunk town in Iowa so my destigntions are limited... mainly to Omaha ...

Hoarders (the Show)Jan 02, 2010
Has anyone seen that show (Hoarders)?  It's one one of the DirecTV channels - Discovery or The Learning Channel or something like that.  Now, I admit that DH is a packrat and without me around, it would be a tad cluttered around here.  When he accumulates too much crap, I box it up, label it and put it in the attic.  If he doesn't miss it for several years, it goes in the garbage.  I thought we had a clutter problem.  Wrong.  They go into these peopl ...

Hillary Put On Quite A ShowJan 23, 2013
during her Benghazi testimony. Gotta luv her little show of outrage. TRANSCRIPT: SENATOR JOHNSON: Again, again we were mislead that there were supposedly protests and something then sprang out of that, an assault sprang out of that, and that was easily ascertained that that was not the fact, and the American people could've known that within days and they didn't know that. HILLARY CLINTON: With all due respect, the fact is we had 4 dead Americans. Was it because of a p ...

Anyone See That New TLC Show Extreme Couponing?Jan 05, 2011
I only saw one episode and am addicted. It's insane! For those of you who have not seen it, this show follows 4 people who are considered extreme couponers.  These people spend hours and hours finding and cutting out coupons to save money. It shows how many items they bought, what they bought, what their original bill would be, and how much they actually paid after their coupons. They have a system down, very organized almost to the point of OCD. They showed their stacks upon stacks of ...

Wonderful Nature ShowNov 16, 2011
Tonight I just finished watching "My Life As a Turkey" on Public Broadcasting.   Anyone who loves animals and nature would love this.  It is about a man who found and incubated wild turkey eggs, raised them and lived with them in the forrest for 1 1/2 years.  This was truly an inspirational film and so beautifully demonstrates the bond between man and the animal kingdom.   I would be interested to hear what others thought of this wonderful story.    T ...
