The US and Saudi Arabia created the oil glut that devestated Venezuela's economy. My fear is that we are planning takeover as Venezuela has immense oil reserves. Who will we install this time?
You can think about this analysis or you can keep buying the "but socialism destroyed them" story you have been sold by your "patriotic" wholesome USA, USA, USA chanters.
The whole situation makes me sick that many point fingers at the end result and use it to justify their ignorance of socialist policies. It has been CREATED BY CAPITALISTS to fail. Our capitalism requires their success to fail. I am gravely disappointed at how many of you are happy with that.

The problem was that TWO polls had Chavez down by 8 points going into Election Day and he won by 8 points. Thanks to Carter the honest people got the middle finger and the downward spiral accelerated. So I guess in that sense you can thank Carter.
Chavez then took over the oil companies.

My first trip to Venezuela was over 20 years ago. I saw what happened over time. Its government became a socialist state over a decade ago by nationalizing industries and confiscating property. It not only took away incentives for people to produce, it punished producers.
The low price of oil hurts, but the downward socialistic spiral began long ago.

The US had LOWER oil production last year. And higher oil consumption. The US consumes about 19.5 million barrels every day. It produces less than 10. Dependency on imports is not getting better. It’s getting worse.
The big shale producers in the US are losing money hand over fist. Go to finance.google.com and type in WLL (Whiting Petroleum), EOG, CLR (Continental Resources), Anadarko . . . all have negative Earnings Per Share. They hype things like cash flow (because borrowing can improve that appearance) but when it comes to earnings . . . actual proper income, it’s all bullshit.
The average calorie travels 1500 miles to reach your mouth. Yours is not a special mouth. This is true for most developed countries. You shut down the Middle East, that’s about 40% of global supply. People won’t be able to get food. Period. You might carpool to the grocery story, but the food won’t make the trip to the shelves on trucks that run on diesel. Teslas deliver nothing. Oil does it all.
