[ In Reply To ..]Monday is a day to honor our fine service men and women past and present. People have the right to choose whatever way they want to celebrate the day. When I was in the Army it was a proud day for us to be serving. It was not a holiday to us, but it felt good to know people honored us. We fight for the freedoms our great country provides us. That includes the freedom to honor our soldiers any way we want to. Having a BBQ to honor them is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. In fact many of the service men and women have BBQs whereever they are stationed. This is a day to remember them and be thankful to them.

[ In Reply To ..]Palo claims to be from Puerto Rico, but his beliefs do not match those of the many PRs that I know. His syntax and beliefs seem to be more similar to someone of Middle Eastern origin.
It might be important for Palo to understand that beliefs and traditions vary from culture to culture. Failing to grasp that is incredibly immature.
Whether BBQing is acceptable in Palo's culture or not, it is fine here.
Why one cooking method in particular would be a problem as far as honoring veterans is not clear to me, but if Palo has issues with it, he should by all means not do it. Perhaps he could boil or fry his meals instead, or even fast.
Whatever he chooses, I hope he can understand that we honor our veterans because they preserved our way of life, including our freedom of choice, and that choice extends to the way we celebrate lives and death. Palo's choice is not my choice, and there is nothing wrong with that.
To me, it's a day to remember the fallen and celebrate the freedom - they gave us. nm
