In honor of my son-in-law this Memorial Day

Posted: May 30, 2011

We ride with an American flag on our bike

It waves on our Gold Wing behind us

Knowing our soldiers are fighting a war

In lands full of desert and dust

Our hearts are heavy losing a loved one so dear

Leaving behind two children and a wife

He gave his country the ultimate gift

For our freedom he gave up his life

I look at the flag now and know what it means

To have this freedom we share

No longer taking it for granted

And knowing that war isn't fair

So when we go out riding this summer

And see an American flag go by

I will take a moment to think of you

And wipe a tear from my eye

*In loving memory of Master Sargeant Michael T. Hiester who paid the supreme

sacrifice in Afghanistan on March 26, 2005.

RIP Michael; you are still so missed

Beautiful Poem - Military Mom

This touched me so much, beautiful poem. Made me cry and appreciate even more the sacrifices our soldiers make. My son, too, just served his term in Afghanistan. When we went to his welcome home ceremony, it was bitter sweet thinking of those who did not come home. So on this special day and every day, God bless you, your son-in-law's family, and all those who serve/served our country, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Prayers to you!

My heart goes out to your daughter and her children, - Kendra

as well as to you and all other family members who have lost a loved one to these wars. I cannot imagine how that feels and I hope to never have to tell my sons that their daddy will not be coming home. God bless you all!

President Herbert Hoover conducted the first national Memorial Day ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery, on May 30, 1929.  Every since our presidents have gone to Arlington National Cemetery in remembrance of those who gave all for our freedom.  However, our current president is not going to Arlington.  Instead the vice president will be going to Arlington while Obama goes home to Chicago.  Our president gives a speech telling us that Memorial Day is more than BBQs and spe ...

Memorial Day And PeopleMay 30, 2012
With Memorial Day having just passed it brought to mind why our service men and women are fighting.  To preserve our freedoms and that includes freedom of speech and the freedoms to believe what we want.  Nobody should be cutting down anyone else because they don't believe a certain way (that is the way they believe).  Sometimes I am gone for days, sometimes work and family keeps gives me little time to come.  These past few days or a week or so of posts here on the boar ...

Memorial Service FeesMay 07, 2015
In planning a memorial service for my mom, I am finding it not so easy to get suggested donation amounts for her pastor, the soloist, and the pianist.  They just say, whatever you decide is fine.  I want to give a fair amount but don't know what this is for each of them.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  Thank you!  ...

Obama Invites Illegal Alien To Be Guest Of Honor At SOTUJan 20, 2015
Ana Zamora, who came to the United States illegally, is among the 22 people selected to sit with First Lady Michelle Obama at tonight's State of the Union address.  This is an honor bestowed on people who provide a human face for the liberal agenda that President Obama will lay out. Christian Conservative Blasts "Feminized" Medal Of HonorNov 23, 2010
How disgusting and he calls himself a Christian. The crazies are going to end up turning a lot of people against Christianity.
