Do your kitties like to sit right in front of the monitor?

Posted: Oct 28, 2009

I have two cats and they both love my desk and they both will hop up on my desk while I'm working and sit right in front of the monitor.  Then they just look around the room like nothing is amiss.  Most of the time they sleep behind my monitor where they can stare out the window, but every so often they like to tease me.  They also like to step on my keyboard.  I swear they think it's funny!

That's what my cat does, too. She also will... sm - Lynn

My kitties do this too. The only way I can get any - work done is by building "barriers" - sm

out of whatever is handy. It's ridiculous - I have a humongous desk, my monitor is in the middle, and either side of the monitor is blocked off with book-ends, a coffee mug, PC tower, pencil-cup, kleenex box, envelopes, books, etc. to make it difficult for them to stand in front of my monitor. So even with this humongous desk, the only room I have to write is about 4" x 6". :(

If the keep trying to get in front of the monitor, sometimes I can bribe them with Petromalt (which they love), then they'll go into the kitchen to get a drink of water and forget they wanted to stand in front of the monitor.

Kitties! Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em!

I have 3 cats but my younger girl kitty has to be right in front of the computer when I work. I have my notes in a notebook there, makes no difference to her. I hardly use the notes so thinking of moving that and putting something more comfy for her there, maybe a nice soft small blanket for her. She occasionally gets up, stretches and arches her back and then immediately back down again in her spot. Anything for the loves in my life.

My miniature supersoaker squirt gun ($1.97 at my local grocery store) solved many behavior problems. Just a tiny squirt or two every six months to reinforce, and now all I have to do is brandish it, making sure they hear the water sloshing inside, and they give respectful distance. No harm done. They're only too happy now to lie on the carpet some 4 feet from my desk while I'm working and purr from there.

I have 3 cats and they all vie for the spot next to my monitor on the right. Could not stop them even with the water gun. So, just broke down and put a towel that I no longer use down. Made sure it was a soft, fluffy one. They don't care about the old Clorox stains, etc. They get up there next to the warm monitor and purr while I work. Occsionally have to reach over and scratch ears. Couldn't work without them now.

What Happened To Free Kitties And Puppies?Nov 14, 2009
I was on Craigslist today to look for my sister a kitty for christmas because hers just died and she hasn't been able to get another one.  People were trying to charge people like $500 to get rid of their dog!  I thought usually when you give a pet away that you do just that... give it away... for free.  Over and over again the people state that the fee is to make sure the animal goes to a good home, but that is CRAP!!!  People who treat animals like dirt can pay the fee ...

Wearing A Holter MonitorApr 20, 2011
Lucky me, I have developed palpitations and a crazy, irratic heartbeat from menopause (I am assuming.)  I was granted the thrill of wearing a Holter monitor for the next 24 hours, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on how I am suppose to sleep with this stupid thing hanging from my neck. I swear, between the leads and the unit itself, I look like a robot. Has anyone else had to do this because of heart irregularities during menopause, and what was their outcome? I wa ...

United Nations Coming Here To Monitor Our Voters.Oct 20, 2012
Why don't they go inspect Iran's voting practices? United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Na ...

Front Loading WashersMar 05, 2010
What kind of detergent do you use? I'm getting a front loader this weekend (I hope) and right now I have a bottle of Tide Cold Water. It says it's ok for front loaders but a friend and I were talking last night and she said the instructions for hers said not to use Tide as it gums up the system. Do you think I could water down the Tide and use up this bottle and then switch to something else later? ...

Vegtable Garden In The Front Yard?May 22, 2012
I am of the school that you plant flowers and shrubs and bushes in the front yard for good curb appeal.  You make your house look very appealing and pretty, but we have newer neighbors next to us that have decided to plant a vegtable garden out front.  They are growing carrots and onions and such in front of the house, while the rest of the block looks pretty, my mid summer, this yard next to ours is going to look like a weedy jungle.  They bought a townhouse, not a farm house.&nb ...

This is a kind of study, to see how women handle combat, I guess?   "In the coming months, General Amos said in an interview, the Marine Corps plans to assign about 40 women to 19 battalions of six different types: artillery, tank, assault amphibian, combat engineer, combat assault and low-altitude air defense. Infantry battalions, however, will remain closed to women." ...

Flight 253 Attack Puts Terrorism Debate Back In Front Of Political PlaybookJan 05, 2010
By Susan Crabtree - 01/02/10 06:00 AM ET Republicans are pressing their line of attack on the issue of national security in the wake of the attempted Christmas Day bombing. One day after Democrats excoriated Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, for using the near takedown of a passenger jet in a fundraising appeal for his campaign for governor, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) took a page from from Hoesktra’s playbook ...
