Wearing a Holter Monitor

Posted: Apr 20, 2011

Lucky me, I have developed palpitations and a crazy, irratic heartbeat from menopause (I am assuming.)  I was granted the thrill of wearing a Holter monitor for the next 24 hours, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on how I am suppose to sleep with this stupid thing hanging from my neck. I swear, between the leads and the unit itself, I look like a robot.

Has anyone else had to do this because of heart irregularities during menopause, and what was their outcome? I wake up in the middle of the night with a heart rate of 100 bpm and need to get up and move around to get it settled back down to normal again. I thought the mood swings were a pain the behind! TIA!

Holter monitor - a.fib2

I kept mine under the pillow, very cumbersome I know. I got allergic to the leads, that stunk. But.. the best part is, as I was rushing to get to the Drs to drop the thing off, I went to the bathroom and then proceeded to drop the thing crashing down, batteries came out and monitor went straight into the toilet! Needless to say, there was no reading and had to do it all over again. The monitor was fine, but I was so upset. Good luck and careful :)

Hi-thanks for the suggestion. I wore it to work today and I felt so itchy where the leads were. When it was time to take it off I noticed my skin had erupted into lovely blotches, too...I am so sorry you had to take this test again, what a cumbersome, itchy exercise this was. And the cardiologist was so proud of how easy and fabulous this test would be! Ugh...

Do Your Kitties Like To Sit Right In Front Of The Monitor?Oct 28, 2009
I have two cats and they both love my desk and they both will hop up on my desk while I'm working and sit right in front of the monitor.  Then they just look around the room like nothing is amiss.  Most of the time they sleep behind my monitor where they can stare out the window, but every so often they like to tease me.  They also like to step on my keyboard.  I swear they think it's funny!   ...

United Nations Coming Here To Monitor Our Voters.Oct 20, 2012
Why don't they go inspect Iran's voting practices? United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Na ...

Women Barred From Voting Because She Was Wearing A MIT T-shirtNov 06, 2012
Once they realized that her shirt was actually MIT (school) and not for Mitt Romney they let her vote.  WHAT THE?????? (left out the swear word since some don't like that). You've got to be joking.  All the Obama suppporters are for that?????  Basically what it is saying is that if you support Mitt Romney you are not allowed to vote. Oh yeah, then when they realized she was wearing a school shirt and not a Romney shirt they "allowed" her to vote. I am outraged that li ...

White House Adviser Insults Native American For Wearing WashingtonAug 19, 2016
Barrett Dahl, an autistic Native American from Oklahoma, was visiting Washington, D.C., in October of last year on a school trip. Being in Washington inspired Dahl to wear a sweater featuring the logo of the Washington Redskins. Mr. Dahl says he wore the sweater because it gave him a sense of cultural pride. Not surprisingly, not everyone sees it quite that way -- including a White House advisor named William Mendoza, who confronted Dahl at a Pow Wow, called him a "weetard," spit on him, and ...
