Date night

Posted: Dec 11, 2011

About to head out with DH for a nice Italian dinner. Just wondering how many MTs try to fit in a date night with the DH/SO/partner every month or so. We definitely try to, although sometimes turns into two, three or even more months. It's certainly something I look forward to! It gets us out of the house, a nice glass of wine and dinner, just the two of us. :)

Same as you, we tried the once-a-month thing, but now we're back to birthdays and anniversary. I suppose we like being homebodies. :)

No DH/SO/partner but - I do make a date with myself to...

... go on a hookup hunt and get laid once or twice a month.

I too look forward to this regular treat!

Are you out of your freaking mind? - Just asking? NM

Oh come on...everybody loosen their granny girdles and get over it. Some of us don't want to be married, etc., but we like a little company occasionally.

I don't think these are old-fashioned judgments. I think there are 2 very big concerns: STDs and potential danger to oneself by "picking someone up." Not on my watch.
I wonder if this reponse would have been the same - curious

if we believed the poster was a guy? Wouldn't a guy (in most cases) get high fives for getting laid regularly without having to commit to just one woman?

Curious if we still hold women and men to different values these days.
Who is Talking Values? - TR

I was reading into these about STDs and a woman possibly getting hurt. Okay, go head, live your life risky. First off, yes, guys can get STDs and pass them on. However, they don't much have to worry about being assaulted or murdered the way a woman does.

Sorry, I too play life safe. Can't say I won't get hit by a car tomorrow, but at least I'm not out looking to get run over by one.
so, your answer to the OP would be no - or something that looks like that
[ In Reply To ..]
To the question of do you have a regular lay ... ER, I mean date ... with your DH.

I was reading that the one who sounds the meanest is usually the one who doesn't .... ER, socialize enough.
probably terminology - TLMom

If that comment had been phrased differently, would that have made a difference? I personally don't feel any different about men/women and sex, but I do try to keep my language a little nicer. Somehow, talking about trying to get laid once or twice a month just seems vulgar and not meant for forums...

I don't have the time nor desire for a life-encompassing, clingy relationship. I am waaaay too independent for that, which is my own (un)doing ;) I would need a fireman or military guy who is gone at least 50% of the time to make it work. So for now, I do as the above poster - find company a couple times a month, whether it's a friend with benes or something more casual. Nothing wrong with it. We're only human :)

Yep, I know someone who has been doing this sort of thing for awhile. She just tested positive for HIV. Hope you're being "careful" in regards to your dating practices.

My husband does all of the cooking and he's most excellent at it, so about every 3 months we celebrate an "anniversary" (the date we met, the date of our first date, the date we moved in together and our wedding anniversary) at our favorite little French restaurant. It's pretty costly, so it's a real treat for us to save up for a really nice meal and a bottle of wine. We combine it with one of our "anniversaries" so it's a combination of celebrating our lives together along with our relatively good fortune in these tough economic times...and it gives him a night off from preparing a meal for us at home. We could eat out more often at places like Denny's, IHOP and other little local places, but saving up and treating ourselves to a really nice meal makes it more special.

No we don't though I would like that - sm - XXX

We did manage a night out, sans kids, about six months ago(first time in about 6 years) and we have a very nice time, actually going out this week too, but only because I won some free tickets in a contest (great seats too). He is being a bit jerky about it (not someone he is thrilled with) so have told him I'd just go with a girlfriend so now he is backpedaling on me saying he wants to go, etc. He knows I really want us to go out but he is just being a real AH about it, so I hope I don't regret going with him as he has just been a jerk for days now about just about everything, guess he has his period or something. If he is still superjerk by that day I will just leave him home and enjoy it with a friend instead and he can stay home alone since I squirreled the kids away for the night. If we have a good time I will start insisting we go out a bit more, say once every 2 months or so, just us. Kids won't be here forever (I hope) and need to get back to where we were before kids which was out every Saturday night for dinner, not saying we need to do that , but every 2-3 weeks would be nice.

We don't do it. - sm

We don't do date night. There is no place we'd rather be than right here at home with our pets and a good movie. I guess date night for us would be a new movie and a bowl of popcorn. We just have no interest in eating at a restaurant (unless of course we knew who the chef was and his health history (guess we watch too much Gordon Ramsey and Kitchen Nightmares LOL). And we really do not like crowds and sitting in a movie theater. We just like being home. Grocery shopping is all the "outing" I want to do.

We don't do it - OP

That sounds like a great night to me! We also like being home with our pets, making a nice dinner and watching TV. My husband is a chef and I also love to cook, so we really enjoy planning, preparing and cooking meals!

We do lunch alone occasionally, - mthead

but those dates are too short and we always end up talking about the kids. I'm going to make regular dates our joint New Year's resolution. Thanks for the idea!

We try to... - TLMom

...go out and have a nice dinner every couple months, but my favorite night is when all of us (kids included) get together in the kitchen and cook dinner together and then sit down and eat at the table. My kids are 1-1/2 and 3-1/2 so there's only so much they can do, but that is absolutely the best evening ever! Even in our tiny little house with no room to move without bumping into one another!

Not a night out, but we do spend Mondays together - Flamom

[ In Reply To ..]
I had changed my schedule this year so that I have Mondays off (work comes in too slow on those days anyhow to make working worth it) so we spend those days just spending time together while the kids are at school. Sleep in, snuggle, nookie, go out for lunch or whatever we feel like doing together that day. We'll also usually take in a play, opera, or concert, just the two of us, once or twice a year. We've been married 14 yrs and, like all marriages, we've had our rough patches in the last few years, close to Big D, but this year has definitely brought us closer. DH even stated to me that he's never felt closer to me than he does now and that he's rediscovered his best friend. We both agreed our Mondays have definitely helped us grow together. We don't want to wait until the kids are grown and out of the house, only to find out we have nothing in common anymore and have "grown apart."

I am 42 and recently divorced.  I have dated some since my separation but am not currently in any relationship at all.  I met a guy over the weekend who is 30.  We talked for a while and he asked for my number.  I gave it to him...  He has been calling and asking me out.  He is very nice.  Has never been married, no children.  But he does work hard and owns his own home.  He is really polite and friendly and nice.  I have agreed to meet him ...

Hillary began helping Bill's fat cats in the US Senate. Earmarks and legislative action benefited Clinton Foundation benefactors. Then Sen-Clinton’s efforts to provide favors to major donors......and to advance her own political ambitions.....stretch back far earlier than the avalanche of news reports about her tenure as America’s top diplomat at the US State Dept. Records show her efforts date back to the time she served as a US senator. She used US govt power to earmark federal funds ...

Last Night's SOTUJan 29, 2014
Well, I thought the President basically lacked passion last night. Nothing he said was with conviction like we've seen in the past. I did not find him believable. The only positive thing I really heard was that he seemed to acknowledge that the economy had not improved during his 5 years in office and he wanted the CEOs of the country to pay their people more money (obviously, I'm paraphrasing here). Hopefully, the CEOs of the MTSOs will take heed and listen to the Commander in Ch ...

Hubby On Night ShiftApr 22, 2010

I have to say I do not like debates.  It seems to me that the broad audience of the American public has developed this "blood lust" akin to a boxing or wresting match or some Superbowl event.  How can someone say that this person won on style, and this one on memorization of facts and figures and then vote for them? How does that relate to them being president, or one heart beat away?
