Is cranberry sauce okay after an expiration date

I am baking a turkey breast tonight. In the mood for thanksgiving so will have with mashed potatoes, grandmas green bean, corn, cheese and sour cream dish and I found a can of cranberry sauce in my cupboard. Expiration date says 06 JUN 13. I've heard that a lot of foods don't really expire with the dates given. Does anyone know if the cranberry sauce would be okay still.

Not only do Peeps not go bad, but many aficionados slit the wrapper to allow air circulation and "age" the Peeps for months to achieve a more preferred texture. Mmmmm!

It is a "best by" date, and even that is arbitrary. It will be fine. Canned food is generally safe for quite a long time. It might lose some quality in texture or color, but it should still be safe. The only warning sign you really need to worry about is a bulging can. If it's not bulging, it's fine, especially this close to the date.

Can's not bulging, someone else said I could eat it after Armageddon LOL, so going to go with it. Now if my darn turkey breast would just cook. I've been baking it at 350 and it's been in 1-1/2 hours. I keep checking it, so hoping within another half hour it will be done.

The best by date is the manufacturer's very conservative estimate of how long the item will remain in the state it was when canned. In other words, the date before which a consumer won't notice any color, taste, texture, or flavor changes. The product won't have separated by then, etc.

I think it is also more of a date when a company can relinquish responsibility for the quality. If you write to them a year after to say you didn't like something, they can point to that date.

The date also gets consumers to restock sooner. Thinking the date means the food is bad, they throw everything out and start over.

About to head out with DH for a nice Italian dinner. Just wondering how many MTs try to fit in a date night with the DH/SO/partner every month or so. We definitely try to, although sometimes turns into two, three or even more months. It's certainly something I look forward to! It gets us out of the house, a nice glass of wine and dinner, just the two of us. :) ...
