Automatic payments deducted from your checking or savings accounts?

Posted: Feb 17, 2010

Do you have automatic payments deducted from your checking or savings accounts? For your house payment, a car loan, a gym membership, college tuition, etc.

I do not, nor will I ever.

I have a few, and I've never had a problem with it at all. Saves me having to remember when a lot of my monthly bills are due.

No, I still like to do it manually. As an MT, my finances - are pretty tight - a couple days before

before my paycheck is deposited, I may have as little as $1.50 in my checking account. If the timing is off, and an automatic payment were to go through before I had the money to back it up, then I'd get zapped with a $35 overdraft fee. I still want total control of what I pay, and when I pay it.

I only do it if there is no other option - No Fundamental Aversion

Some places, an automatic deduction is the only option. If it is a service I need or really want, I will allow it. Otherwise I prefer to write a check when it is due... for the same reason as a previous poster - availability and/or timing of funds.

Yep, I do it for several different things - sm - HLINVA

I have my phone bill deducted, our two college funds, two internet providers (they won't allow 2 people to be on at the same time), DirecTV, my aircard, two life insurance policies, and the newspaper. So twice a month I just write them all out based on dates 1-15-15-31 so I don't get overdrawn by accident. Everything else I pay online by logging into my account with that company and pay electronically.

Don't Like Auto-Pay - sm

Did that once only when there was no alternative and did not do business with that place for long [other reasons]. Prefer to schedule payments myself, since the dates I want money withdrawn are not always the same from month to month.

try renting before you buy - its a place to start

See if there is a local rental store near you that carries models you are interested in testing. You can try something for a couple of weeks to see how you like it before you make a decision. You wouldn't be tied to make a major purchase and would have something to give you clean laundry while you do some research. Most rental places give you a 90-day same as cash option, too.

sorry, this was supposed to be for - Soggy Laundry - nm

Mitt Romney's Answer To The Question About Automatic Weapons:Oct 18, 2012
In spite of Governor Romney's mistake in thinking automatic weapons are illegal in the U.S., I was more interested in a more rambling answer about single mothers. I surmise that his completely unstated mental link seemed to be single mothers = poverty = violence. There is one, of course. For POOR single mothers. At least for those of the subgroup of the subgroup of that subgroup who aren't surrounded with good supportive families but are rather living all alone in poverty and are livin ...

Times: "Gun control advocates contend that semiautomatic weapons like the AR-15, the civilian version of the military’s M-16 and M-4, are a logical choice for anyone whose goal is to kill a lot of people in a short time because of their ability to rapidly fire multiple high-velocity rounds. “The people we’re talking about, once they get into ‘I want to kill a lot of people,’ it’s not a leap for them to ...

Obama Kept Military Out Of The Loop On Cash Payments To Iran. Sep 23, 2016
military officials to weigh in on his administration's decision in January to send $400 million in cash to Iran. After all, Iran is the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, and terrorists prefer cash to wire payments because it's so difficult to track. And its armed forces have both directly and indirectly threatened the U.S. military in the Middle East. But Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry did not consult Secretary of Defense Ash Carter or the Chairman of the Jo ...

Fact Checking Obama's Budget SpeechApr 22, 2011
Some very interesting info in this article.  President Barack Obama misrepresented the House Republicans’ budget plan at times and exaggerated its impact on U.S. residents during an April 13 speech on deficit reduction. Obama claimed the Republicans’ "Path to Prosperity" plan would cause "up to 50 million Americans … to lose their health insurance.” But that worst-case figure is based in part on speculation and assumptions. He said the GOP plan would repla ...

Interesting Checking On Syria And Iran Building A Naval StationOct 23, 2012
All the pundits, news bloggers, etc. are making fun of Romney's comment on Iran and Syria. I was curious, so looked up a map of the Syria and the relationship between Syria and Iran. It sits on the Mediterranean Sea. So, no problem with Iran building a naval station in Syria. It gives Iran 2 ways to get to the open ocean and since Iran and Syria are bestest buddies, it makes sense. It would also give Iran and Syria access to missles being able to hit our allies since Iran's missles wo ...
