For those that need a good laugh on a Friday

Posted: Oct 8, 2010

Wednesday I got a call informing me that one of my great aunts passsed away.  I read the obituary yesterday, which was Thursday.  As I read the obit I saw visiting hours Thurs evening and funeral Friday.  I just assumed the funeral was this Friday, seeing as though she passed 2 days prior.  I get up this morning and get dressed up and head down the interstate - the funeral was held in a different town than I live in and is about an hour's drive.   I find the church and I arrive about 15 minutes earlier than the 10:00 time.  I thought it was strange that there were not too many vehicles, as she had 8 children, 27 grandchildren, and 49 great granchildren.  I proceed to enter the church and am standing inside and did not recognize anyone - they were all very elderly (my aunt was 96) so I thought they were people she knew from her church, and yet I did not see any family members.  As I am standing there I sign the guest book and wait for someone I recognize to arrive.  I am standing in the back of the church and glance down towards the alter and see a picture of a man surrounded by flowers.  I thought that was odd and eventually a the light went off in my head.  I asked someone if this was the funeral for my aunt and the lady stated "Oh dear, no that is next Friday.  I almost fainted and thanked the lady and strolled out.  I guess it was not a wasted trip, as the leaves were gorgeous in the northern part of Maine.  Hopefully the scenery will be just as brilliant next Friday.  Just wanted to share to give someone a laugh besides my husband.

Good thing you figured it out before you got to the casket! Then what would you have done? I probably would have bluffed that I knew the person vaguely, made my way quickly through the rest of the line and headed for the hills!

Glad you at least had a nice drive out of it.

of the man was on a table with flowers around it at the alter and realized it was not a picture of my aunt. I never got past the back of the church, as I was looking for familiar faces, which I did not see. I do not recall seeing a casket, but did see the hearse outside the church so maybe the casket had not made its way into the church yet. Do not know, but good for me that I did not stick around to find out. I would not have sat down without recognizing family that I did know. LOL

Oh, no! - Christine

I would have also assumed the funeral was a few days after the obit. You sound like a really great, well adjusted person to refer to going "next Friday." Hope you have a beautiful drive. And I do have to admit, it made me smile. I am sorry for your loss.

I had friends who told me of a similar situation. - IAMT

They went to a wedding reception at a local Knights of Columbus, walked in, dropped their card with the money gift in this decorated gift card chest, signed the guest book and found they didn't see anyone they knew. They realized they were to be at a wedding reception in another room a level down. As they were heading down the stairs, they both realized at the same time they had left the money gift upstairs and went back up and had to explain their predicament to the attendant at the gift table to retrieve it so they wouldn't get caught just digging through the cards;-)

Enjoyed the analysis of the summit by MsNBC.  I was pleased with the opportunity to watch Obama lead a meeting.  I found his body language interesting.  That plus the fact that the conservatives (and even worse) have all but ceded control of this board and are leaving in defeat makes this shape up to be a pretty good day.   ...

There's a group of people. They elect a leader. The leader digs a hole 8 feet deep. He and all the people are in it and the walls are starting to crumble. The people elect another leader. The second leader makes the hole bigger by digging out the sides. Oh no, some people exclaim. The hole is getting bigger! But now we can climb out, says the leader. But the hole will still be there for our children, say the people. Not if we work to fill it back in, says the president. It is easier to fill ...

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals has delivered another blow to President Barack Obama, who has had an incredibly rough week due to a series of very serious scandals, by finding a recess appointment to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to be unconstitutional: The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday said an appointment President Barack Obama made to the National Labor Relations Board was invalid, becoming the second circuit to question the validity of the labor board&rs ...

He used a pseudonym on her email server but told CBS that he found out about her server by "hearing it on the news." So this scandal goes all the way to the top, as I rather imagine others like Benghazi and Lerner (IRS) targeting conservative groups did as well (its simply ludicrous to believe that she did this on her own without the approval of, if not orders from, the Oval Office). There should be a virtual parade of federal officials and employees on their way to prison, but will that h ...
