Wednesday I got a call informing me that one of my great aunts passsed away. I read the obituary yesterday, which was Thursday. As I read the obit I saw visiting hours Thurs evening and funeral Friday. I just assumed the funeral was this Friday, seeing as though she passed 2 days prior. I get up this morning and get dressed up and head down the interstate - the funeral was held in a different town than I live in and is about an hour's drive. I find the church and I arrive about 15 minutes earlier than the 10:00 time. I thought it was strange that there were not too many vehicles, as she had 8 children, 27 grandchildren, and 49 great granchildren. I proceed to enter the church and am standing inside and did not recognize anyone - they were all very elderly (my aunt was 96) so I thought they were people she knew from her church, and yet I did not see any family members. As I am standing there I sign the guest book and wait for someone I recognize to arrive. I am standing in the back of the church and glance down towards the alter and see a picture of a man surrounded by flowers. I thought that was odd and eventually a the light went off in my head. I asked someone if this was the funeral for my aunt and the lady stated "Oh dear, no that is next Friday. I almost fainted and thanked the lady and strolled out. I guess it was not a wasted trip, as the leaves were gorgeous in the northern part of Maine. Hopefully the scenery will be just as brilliant next Friday. Just wanted to share to give someone a laugh besides my husband.
