There's a group of people. They elect a leader. The leader digs a hole 8 feet deep. He and all the people are in it and the walls are starting to crumble. The people elect another leader. The second leader makes the hole bigger by digging out the sides.
Oh no, some people exclaim. The hole is getting bigger!
But now we can climb out, says the leader.
But the hole will still be there for our children, say the people.
Not if we work to fill it back in, says the president. It is easier to fill in now that we are out of it. If we had been buried when the walls caved in, we wouldn't have had a chance.
But we aren't out yet! cry the people.
It's an easier climb, explains the leader. Extend your hand to the person behind you and help them out. When we're all out, we'll fill in the hole much more easily.
I climbed out myself, say some people. Let those behind me do the same.
Other people say, but you didn't help make the hole climbable. Can't you help now?
No, say the stubborn few. We didn't make the hole at all, and we don't have to help.
But you voted for the guy who did make the hole in the first place. Now do your part! say the others.
No! scream the screamers. Holes are bad, our current leader made a big one and we hate him! And his wife's hairdresser!
Suit yourselves say the rest. Just pay attention next time you vote.
We will vote against big hole diggers! say the screamers. They smell funny and that hole was not going to collapse. Why did they make it bigger?!?
The rest just shake their heads and get back to work.
The end.
Have a good weekend all ^^
