Debt Ceiling Passes. No conditions.

Filibuster denied.  Took a lot of guts on the part of M. McConnell.  TP will hit him hard in Kentucky.  But he did the right thing.

Some of them put on a good show, talking about how they weren't going to vote for it, etc., but in the end they knew it would be political suicide for them not to pass it. This removes one thing from the democrat arsenal. I think the plan is to keep the pressure on those that voted for the ACA until midterms and hope that's enough.

Yes, but I think it's more like learnin' the yunguns :-) Good post NM - OP

201 House Pubs voted against debt ceiling - Bluebird

[ In Reply To ..]
I do not think they learned anything. Even Boehner had to vote for it and as majority leader he would not ordinarily vote. The Pubs are still just as willing to tear the country down in their tantrums as ever. After the last debt ceiling debacles, the Republicans do not have much credibility at all.

Mitch McConnell is not in the House. I think the OP was - Truthhurts

talking about the Senate vote, at least that's the article the OP linked.

It passed in the Senate 55-43.
232 Republicans willing to default on America's debts - Bluebird
[ In Reply To ..]
That would be 201 House Republicans and 31 Senate Republicans voted against the debt ceiling. Thanks, Truthhurts, for pointing that out.
My post was about the debt ceiling. It's right in the subject line. - OP

That really is the topic, after all, and the fact that the Reps didn't allow the TP'ers to shut down the government again. It was kudos to all the Republican leaders who are wising up and doing the right thing at the potential expense of being TP'd in their primaries and losing their offices. Doing what is right for America. Not letting the extreme wing of their party exert undue power. This is a step toward the GOP taking back their party, I hope.

My post opened the door to many offshoot discussions. I have no problem with it going in any direction any poster chooses to take it. That is the nature of discussion.

So was mine. Your link was to an article about the SENATE: - Truthhurts

"G.O.P. Senate Leaders Avert Debt Ceiling Crisis" which vote was 55-43. That was what I was referring to in my post. There's only 100 Senators, and the other post was talking about the HOUSE votes.

Did the House have anything to do with debt ceiling vote? And the HOUSE was mentioned - in the link
[ In Reply To ..]
"Congress gave final approval on Wednesday to raising the nationâs borrowing authority, the first âcleanâ increase since 2009. It followed Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio delivering a House vote on Tuesday on the backs of Democratic votes, as Republican leaders stood up to absorb the blows from the Tea Party elements in their party.

For Mr. Boehner, the challenge was putting a debt ceiling increase up for a vote, without preconditions. For Senate Republican leaders, it was to actually cast the votes. In both chambers, their actions provided crucial political cover to their colleagues, who then were free to vote against the measure while also escaping blame in the midterm elections for the harm to the economy that a debt default would have wrought."
But it really doesn't matter what my link was. A lot of people don't even click on the links.

It was about the debt ceiling. Any comments on that are acceptable. For you to suggest otherwise is inappropriate.

This is ridiculous.  Debt Ceiling:  Should the United States of America pay its debts as it agreed to or should they default?  Are you kidding me?  Should the USA become a deadbeat country?  Really?  Each month when I receive my credit card statement, my utility bills, my car loan statement, I don't ask my husband:  Should we pay these?  We incurred the debt.  We are OBLIGATED.  We are already driving the car.  We have alread ...

Six Costs Of Not Raising The Debt CeilingJul 26, 2011
What started as hot air has now become a thunder cloud. Should Congress fail to reach a compromise to raise the debt ceiling, a multitude of economic sectors could take a hit—if not come to a screeching halt. We review the effects as forecasted by economists and ask “Should you worry?” The answer, in short: Yes, probably so. 1. Mitch McConnell Debt Ceiling Plan: Senate GOP Leader Offers Alternative To Obama's 'Grand Bargain' WASHINGTON -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) floated a novel way out of default Tuesday, suggesting that Congress give up its power to raise the debt ceiling, and instead effectively transfer that authority -- and the political pain that comes with it -- to the White House for the remainder of Obama's current term. Obama Defends 2006 Vote Against The Debt Ceiling. SMOct 16, 2013
Washington (CNN) – There is no daylight between his vote against raising the debt ceiling as a senator in 2006 and his call for Congress to increase the limit in the next 10 days, President Barack Obama said Wednesday. “Nothing has changed,” Obama told WFLA in an interview. “I voted against a debt ceiling increase at the time because I had some concerns about what President (George W.) For all those strict adherents to the Constitution, take note of Section 4: Section. 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.  It would seem this brings into question the fundamental constitutionality of the imposition of a debt ceiling statute, which naturally is trumped by the Constitution.  Look for th ...
