Pelosi loses support of House Democrats as she blames voters for election losses

Posted: Nov 8, 2014

"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is said to be losing the strong support she has enjoyed among herDemocrats in the United States House of Representatives. Yet, the 74-year-old politician powerhouse from California has made it well known to her fellow-Democratic lawmakers that she intends on keeping her position in Washington, D.C., as the House Minority Leader. As she expresses her desire to stay in power, Politico is reporting on Thursday that there are no Democrats preparing to challenge Pelosi publicly even though there are those who wish she would be replaced.  According to senate aides, politicians are grumbling behind the scenes while hoping that Pelosi will basically do a better job if no one will step up to challenge her as a replacement."

If there ever was a poster-child candidate for term limits and retirement, Pelosi is it.  What a shame that the Democrats and others seem to have a hard time getting rid of her.

Observations on young women voters - Teach your children well

[ In Reply To ..]
I was at the grocery store today and used my Smart phone coupon code for the young college student checkout girl to credit my coupons. I made the comment that it is so handy today not to have to cut out the coupons. We chatted. I mentioned I had done grocery checkout work to go through college and mentioned that we did not have the scanners but had to enter in each item. She misunderstood and acted horrified and said that "yes, she had to enter in all those coupon codes by hand sometimes." I said, "no, I had to enter in each individual grocery item price by category, no scanner, no conveyor to bring the groceries up, and often had to bag the groceries as well. I thought she was going to faint. Apparently, she had no idea that all those groceries ever had to all be rung up individually.

When I got home, I turned on a game show. There were 2 young ladies on the show of voting age. The question was "who is the Speaker of the House." They had no clue.

I actually got profoundly depressed.

I was teenager when Roe -vs- Wade was approved. I was a teenager when burning your bra was a strong (but misguided in my case) rebellion statement to the male dominated society and a symbol of women's liberation. My first job out of college was with a Title IX program: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."

When the Comparable Work Act went into effect in my state, I received a $6.00 an hour raise. I knew I deserved it. (Now I cannot believe how hard I work for lines per hour just to get to my retirement age).

In the background of this, my girlfriends and I talked about the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment). To tell you the truth, life happens. Marriage, babies, and you forget about "the causes." Here it is, 2014, and the ERA has never been ratified.

Here is a little history on the ERA: "In her remarks as she introduced the Equal Rights Amendment in Seneca Falls in 1923, Alice Paul sounded a call that has great poignancy and significance over 80 years later: "If we keep on this way they will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the 1848 Convention without being much further advanced in equal rights than we are. . . . If we had not concentrated on the Federal Amendment we should be working today for suffrage. . . . We shall not be safe until the principle of equal rights is written into the framework of our government."

Here are that states that have not yet ratified the ERA: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, and Virginia.

It seems many of these states ring a bell for me as far as low minimum wage and no Medicaid expansion for people seeking health insurance through the health insurance exchange.

When I think of that young checkout at the store and the girls on TV not knowing who John Boehner is, I guess I am thinking everything we of my generation worked hard for is just going to be frittered away.

How do we reach the young women of this generation? Has it been too easy for them?

So what has this to do with Nancy Pelosi? I am thankful for the strong role model Nancy Pelosi provides for all women. I know that everyone loves to cut a woman down for being too uppity and women are often the hardest on other women. The above article's biggest problem is that apparently no one will share the snark on Nancy unlike when Boehner practically lost control of the House 2 years ago.

So be it. I will be having many talks with my grand kids, grand nieces, and friends.

Nothing to do with her sex. She is a ding bat. - plain and simple.

I will never ever forget "pass it and then we can read it" regarding ACA. That will go down as one of the dumbest comments ever made by a politician. Plus she has said and done so many other things .... she needs to go.

I agree the apathy and level of knowledge is very depressing among a lot of people, not just young women or men.
I long for a leader like JFK and his inspiring speech re: "not what my country can do for me, but what I can do for my country."

Why are you stuck on that? - that has been debunked

It must be like a broken record stuck in your head, or do they replay it over and over on Fox like some sort of a mantra? The full quote is:

“You’ve heard about the controversies, the process about the bill…but I don’t know if you’ve heard that it is legislation for the future – not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America,” she told the National Association of Counties annual legislative conference, which has drawn about 2,000 local officials to Washington. “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it – away from the fog of the controversy.”

* * *

In other words, you will not appreciate it all of it until it is in effect.

I suggest you copy the quote, put it into your expander, and every time you have the urge to repeat the Republican line, play the full quote back so you can deprogram.

She meant what she said not appreciate it all of it until it is in effect. Come on. That makes no sense.

She meant verbatim what she said and literally.

Honestly, I will be glad when people wake up and see just what has happened to our country with Democrats like this in office.

Honestly, I hope she does get challenged and loses. She is a nut case. If you look at her wide eyed comments to things, you know she has to have a screw loose.

She is out the door like Harry Reid. I think Democrats will have to get everyone associated with Mr.O out of their way in order to be effective.

House Democrats Hit Boiling Point Over Perceived Lack Of WH SupportJul 15, 2010
House Democrats are lashing out at the White House, venting long-suppressed anger over what they see as President Obama's lukewarm efforts to help them win reelection -- and accusing administration officials of undermining the party's chances of retaining the majority in November's midterm elections. After the tea partiers who said they were behind him on his Plan B in the morning backed out later in the day, Speaker Boehner closed the House for the holidays.
