Christmas Eve will be the second anniversary of my husband's death in Iraq. sm

Posted: Dec 17, 2011

We have 3 children, all under the age of 10. I ask for your prayers for us during this difficult time. I can't help but remember back to this time two years ago when he was still with us.  Please pray for our soldiers fighting now, that they come home to their families safely. I know that my husband rests in the loving arms of Jesus and I know that though he can no longer come home to us, we will some day go to him.  Thank you and God Bless you all.

Melissa: I sent you a note on your response to Clarice's thread. If you have not read it, please do so when you have a moment. Thank you for YOUR service, as well as your husband's. We all have what we have because of people like you and my nephews currently serving.

I am so sorry I missed your post on the other board. I did not find some of the posters kind there so I did not go back and read. My family thanks you for your kindness and comforting words. They mean more than you know to us. I read them to my children, as well. God bless you.

Glad you got the note - LeeLee

Glad you got the note. It is really thoughtful for you to share those with your children. I bet that means more to them than you can imagine.

So sorry Melissa - tiredofworking

I will keep you and your children in my prayers. I lost my son-in-law in Afghanistan in 2005. The dedication that our soldiers have to keep us safe always amazes me. I truly respect and admire each and every one. What a heavy burden for you to carry. May God be with you this holiday season. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. sm - Melissa

you and your children through this most difficult time. You and your family gave the ultimate sacrifice and I am forever grateful. I have two son-in-laws and a neice who are serving (Afghanistan), as well as my son-in-law's twin brother (Afghan, as well) and I pray that all return home to us soon, as well as the many, many others that are there.

God bless you and your family and thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your service, as well as your husbands.

Thank you for your kindness, Dee. - Melissa

You certainly have a lot of people in harm's way. I will pray for all of you that they return home to you safely. I can remember thinking when my husband left how sad it was that he would not be here for Christmas. I did not realize that there are sadder things in this world. We are coping and today, our pastor surprised us with the promise of a sleigh ride and in church this morning, they did a special tribute to Rob, who grew up here in this small town. Everyone was crying. Praise God for giving me strength. With Him, all things are possible. I wish you and yours the very best today and always. I am so blessed to have found this board. God Bless you all.

A prayer for you - MT Jan

Melissa - I am so sorry that Christmas has become a time of loss, not that it would be better any other time, but still with children what a sad memory when others are in a holiday mode. I so appreciate your husband's and your family's service to our country and am so very sorry it came at such a high cost. I will pray for peace for your family at this time and pray for a coming home of all the soldiers in war zones soon. God bless you and your children

I am so deeply sorry for your family, Melissa ... - JustTryingToGetBy

Thank you, Melissa, for your family's service so that our families can sleep soundly tonight knowing we are protected.

Thank you, Melissa, for sharing your story. Sadly, sometimes it takes a story like yours to remind us that our problems really aren't as bad as we thought they were before reading your post.

Thank you, Melissa, for not wavering in your faith, but holding on tighter. That will be the very thing that will carry you through.

Thank you, Melissa, for your courage in the face of despair. Being a single mom as the result of divorce is difficult, but I had a choice. You were given no choice, and for that, my heart breaks for you.

Thank you, Melissa, for your sacrifice.

God Bless you all ....

I am so very, very sorry that you lost your husband and it breaks my heart to know what you are going through, as well as your 3 children. We can never imagine that kind of loss unless you have experienced it. I was a military wife many years ago, and some members of my family were in the military and I know how hard it is to be without someone you hold so dear, especially when you have children. I hope you are getting the help you need. How are your children adjusting to this? I lost a dear friend in combat, and he had a wife and children also. We owe so very much to our military, and everytime I heard another man was lost in Iraq I thought about his family back home. Please know you have a lot of support here and a lot of love. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Love, Monique

Hang in there Melissa. Praying for you and yours. Glad I got to "meet" you too. Could not send a note sooner due to computer virus. You are 1 in a million. I sincerely appreciated your sweet note from a few days ago. You really brightened my day!!

Ten-year Anniversary Gift Nov 11, 2009
In December, my significant other (BF sounds so young) and I will have been together 10 years.  We are both 51 and basically get anything we want when we want it.  He is not the type to wear jewelry except his college ring and a watch (which I got him 5 years ago) and he has anything and everything for his favorite college team.  I was thinking about doing a collage of pictures from the trips we have taken in our 10 years together in a nice picture frame, but not sure.  He is ...

The death of Michael Brown or the visibility of the Black Lives Matter movement. IMO, 11:55 a.m. (CT) marks the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown at the hands of a police officer who should have and could have made a different decision. I think he would have made a different decision if he were not racist. IMO, if that had been a white person in the EXACT same situation, he would have lived through the situation. So, I have read lots of opposition to that line of suppo ...

Any Ideas For 25th Anniversary Weekend?May 03, 2012
We are taking a week's vacation at the beach with our children and grandchildren in June.  We split the cost of a beach house.  Everyone has a nice place to stay on the beach, much cheaper when cost is divided. Our 25th anniversary is coming up in October, and my husband and I would like to take a vacation without the kids.  It will only be a 3-4 day stay over a weekend because of limited time off for both of us, and of course limited funds since we will be paying for everyt ...

Republican Congress Leadership To Skip Selma Anniversary EventMar 06, 2015
Scores of U.S. lawmakers are converging on tiny Selma, Alabama, for a large commemoration of a civil rights anniversary. But their ranks don’t include a single member of House Republican leadership — a point that isn’t lost on congressional black leaders. None of the top leaders — House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy or Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was once thought likely to attend to atone for reports that he once spoke before a white supremacist group — w ...

IRAQJun 12, 2014
Maybe BO can negotiate with the terrorists overtaking Iraq and broker a deal to reduce our fuel prices. He didn't listen to all of the military opinions before his premature withdrawal and look what happened, just what many military experts predicted. Thanks, Mr. President, for undoing what was done. Also, Iraq was apparently recently begging the WH for military strikes against the terrorists, but he declined. I guess he was busy on the links that day. ...

What About Iraq War Veterans Committing Suicide??? May 29, 2012
I just watched a TV documentary about new war veterans coming back from Iraq.  They say that every day at least 28 veterans are committing suicide.  This is truly shocking news.  I am wondering if their statistics are really accurate.  They say that only 33% are approved to receive PTSD benefits.  There is not enough money in their budget to approve all the claims.  I used to transcribe Veteran's health care reports and know that there are many mental heal ...

US Blackwater Lawsuit Signatures Sought By Iraq Jan 19, 2010
Iraq has begun collecting signatures for a class action lawsuit on behalf of people killed or wounded in incidents involving US security firm Blackwater. It will seek compensation for a number of such cases, the office of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said. Incidents include the 2007 killing of 17 Iraqis in Baghdad's Nisoor Square. Last month, a US judge dismissed charges against five Blackwater guards over those killings, which Iraqi officials described as "regrettable". Immediately ...

The number of Christians in Iraq has decreased from 1.5 million 15 years ago to a couple of hundred thousand today.
