HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! And bring on the Twinkies! I love them!

The Twinkie company just claimed chapter 11 or 13 so they could reopen without the union - sm

What a scam

One of the unions was why they were going - to close

[ In Reply To ..]
Unions are NOT the be all and end all to everything good and wonderful in the world.

Unions are why Detroit is a ghost town - the auto industry sent everything over seas or to cheaper US markets because the unions in Detroit cost them way too much money. Unions are why are lot of manufacturing has gone overseas.

Let's see. Would you rather have a job at $15 an hour or NO job at $30 an hour? I know which one I'd choose.

There were two unions involved with Hostess. Hostess was very upfront with their financial situation. One of the unions worked with them, but the other one stuck to their demands which were, quite frankly, not in this realm of reality, and Hostess had no choice but to close. That's how much good a union does for you.

Why they were going to? - They did close!

[ In Reply To ..]
Hostess is out of business. Some other company bought the Twinkie line, along with some other assorted snack food, which is why they are now coming back; however, it is no longer a Hostess product.

The Bakers Union screwed things up for everyone. The Teamsters agreed to the terms of the new contract.
that's what I understood too - Hostess is no more. - been sold off. NM

You are correct - they did close
[ In Reply To ..]
And all those people lost their jobs because of 1 stubborn, greedy union.
Not to mention the day-old stores, route drivers - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
merchandisers, and other plants around the country - all of those workers lost their jobs, too. We had a Hostess plant in Henderson (Las Vegas) that closed with everything else. Unions have no place in our current world, unfortunately.

Stupid Unions! - see msg please

I have posted many times before about the dang unions. Dern near ruined this here country by putting the biggest of companies out of business. I'm with the viewpoint of I'd rather have $15 per hour, than used to have $30 per hour and now nothing.

How come no one ever expects senior management to - compromise on THEIR salary and bennies???

[ In Reply To ..]
Boo-hoo, the poor auto manufacturers and Hostess got bullied by the unions. When upper level management makes a reasonable salary (not mega times what the lowest paid worker in the company makes) during a time of difficulty in the company, THEN talk to me about unions if you think their demands are out of line. For the most part, union workers are not, and have never been, rich. They hope to make a decent living wage for the work they do. Tell me how CEOs deserve multimillion dollar salaries, bonuses, bennie packages, and golden parachutes when their corporations are in dire straits--or even when they're doing very well, for that matter. The first place they make cuts is in the wages and benefits of their low-level employees. Then they have the balls to turn around and blame those same low-level employees for fighting to stay on a path of financial progress.

Corporate America mixed the Kool-Aid and blamed the country's economic downfall on the unions, and so many people drank that Kool-Aid. If you want to know where the problem lies, follow the money. It is NOT inside the pockets of union workers.

For crying out loud, look at the MT industry. When the voices of American MTs are finally heard regarding the downward trajectory of our pay, the MTSOs will answer by saying they simply cannot afford to pay the too-high wages of MTs in this country and that's why they've had to offshore all the work. Will you enjoy having people blame you for destroying your own livelihood because of your "greed"?

Those with lots of money blame those with significantly less money for the demise of American labor. Yeah, that makes sense.
Not saying CEOs are correct - Just saying...
[ In Reply To ..]
...to have to pay someone $35 an hour to put a cherry on a cupcake is just silly.

The people who owned those companies lost millions upon millions, and unions are one of the main reasons. EVERYONE could have been happy if not for the unions, is my point. Now, nobody is.

You are completely incorrect. - anon

They completely went out of business and liquidated everything. Everything is under new ownership.

Ten-year Anniversary Gift Nov 11, 2009
In December, my significant other (BF sounds so young) and I will have been together 10 years.  We are both 51 and basically get anything we want when we want it.  He is not the type to wear jewelry except his college ring and a watch (which I got him 5 years ago) and he has anything and everything for his favorite college team.  I was thinking about doing a collage of pictures from the trips we have taken in our 10 years together in a nice picture frame, but not sure.  He is ...

One Year Anniversary AND BLM ContinuesAug 09, 2015
The death of Michael Brown or the visibility of the Black Lives Matter movement. IMO, 11:55 a.m. (CT) marks the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown at the hands of a police officer who should have and could have made a different decision. I think he would have made a different decision if he were not racist. IMO, if that had been a white person in the EXACT same situation, he would have lived through the situation. So, I have read lots of opposition to that line of suppo ...

I Knew It Was To Good Too Last (3 Days?)Nov 24, 2010
WASHINGTON—Senate Republicans' ban on earmarks -- money included in a bill by a lawmaker to benefit a home-state project or interest -- was short-lived. Only three days after GOP senators and senators-elect renounced earmarks, Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, the No. 2 Senate Republican, got himself a whopping $200 million to settle an Arizona Indian tribe's water rights claim against the government. Kyl slipped the measure into a larger bill sought by President Barack Obama and passed ...

Any Ideas For 25th Anniversary Weekend?May 03, 2012
We are taking a week's vacation at the beach with our children and grandchildren in June.  We split the cost of a beach house.  Everyone has a nice place to stay on the beach, much cheaper when cost is divided. Our 25th anniversary is coming up in October, and my husband and I would like to take a vacation without the kids.  It will only be a 3-4 day stay over a weekend because of limited time off for both of us, and of course limited funds since we will be paying for everyt ...

Christmas Eve Will Be The Second Anniversary Of My Husband's Death In Iraq. SmDec 17, 2011
We have 3 children, all under the age of 10. I ask for your prayers for us during this difficult time. I can't help but remember back to this time two years ago when he was still with us.  Please pray for our soldiers fighting now, that they come home to their families safely. I know that my husband rests in the loving arms of Jesus and I know that though he can no longer come home to us, we will some day go to him.  Thank you and God Bless you all.  ...

Republican Congress Leadership To Skip Selma Anniversary EventMar 06, 2015
Scores of U.S. lawmakers are converging on tiny Selma, Alabama, for a large commemoration of a civil rights anniversary. But their ranks don’t include a single member of House Republican leadership — a point that isn’t lost on congressional black leaders. None of the top leaders — House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy or Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was once thought likely to attend to atone for reports that he once spoke before a white supremacist group — w ...

2-year-old Kentucky Girl Accidentally Killed By Her 5-year-old Brother May 01, 2013
"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. We MUST start holding adults accountable for guns in the home. ...

Gee, The IRS Scandal Is Getting Larger. Who Knew?May 17, 2014
With Washington gripped by a trio of exploding scandals this week – from Benghazi to government spying on news outlets to thug tactics by the Internal Revenue Service – Senate Democrats seem to be hoping that if they just yell loud enough then voters will overlook a key role they played in at least one of them. They quickly sensed the political toxicity associated with Friday's admission by the IRS that they selectively targeted conservative organizations for special government ...

No Evidence Seen That Christie Knew Of Traffic Scheme -N.J. DemocratFeb 03, 2014
