and the Republicans want to deregulate the EPA

Posted: Mar 12, 2011

Hey, but we need profitable companies that don't pay taxes to employ people off shore, right?  Think about this the next time you take a drink of water.

See:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/09/benjamin-grumbles-bush-epa-fracking_n_833781.html

The EPA's 2004 report did find that diesel fluid in fracturing presented a risk to groundwater. How was this addressed?

The former administrator [of water] Tracy Mehan recognized that under current law the agency was not regulating or prohibiting diesel fluids from being used in the hydraulic fracturing process, so he signed, on behalf of the EPA, an MOU [memo of understanding] with major companies that have a major stake in this, voluntarily getting them to commit not to use diesel fluids for the hydraulic fracturing process.

Based on current law and what tools we had, I felt this was a positive step. And it was a sincere step forward for us to make sure that we were engaged with the industry and engaged in the sense that they knew we were watching this and knew that it could be a problem if they used this sort of a process.

Q: And now we learn from some members of Congress that diesel use continued despite those efforts ...

It's disappointing, and the agency needs to follow up and ensure that the industry is providing accurate and timely information.

I think if the information is true that industry withheld information or misled regulators or the policy makers, then that is serious, and they need to provide all the relevant information they have.

All I can say is I am not surprised. This is what - we get when we have SM

They apparently want to cut EPA regulation of Greenhouse Gasses - I actually want that kind of protection

This is the kind of thing that government is supposed to do, protect the people.

But they refuse to touch 20 Million Dollars/yr for Unemployment for Millionaires - Unemployment For Millionaires!

[ In Reply To ..]
I was not aware of that until now. Unemployment for Millionaires! That's 20 Million Dollars that could be cut as far as I'm concerned, but instead, they propose to cut from Headstart and WIC.

The sneaky thing is those little riders in the bills. The larger part sounds noble, then you get to the riders. I think that's what happened earlier this week where you read the major part of the bill and it was fine, but it's in the little add-ons that the people lose and big business wins at the expense of the people and our little ones.

In my state, my celebrity Rep gov - wants to set us back

to the 70s when pollution was rampant and companies were not responsible because it is good for business. We have the DuPont mess, the dioxin messes, Arthur Kill, Ford site mess, pharmaceutical pollution, building in wetlands, loss of species due to same, high rates of asthma, emphysema, still recovering from the toxic fallout of 9/11 which our EPA (former Rep gov) at the time said was harmless. What they tend to do here is also build their low income housing on or near toxic-waste sites.

Well, iin MY state, I am thankful EVERY day that - a Pub Gov. took over to balance budget!!!!.nm

Remember that those Republicans are the first to get us into wars where we don't belong too - and we pay and pay for many years thereafter

Republicans are not my heroes. These are the same people who swore there were weapons of mass destruction and we had to spend all of our military and our money. Then they attacked the wrong country. Then after that...well, you know the rest. It never ends. Sure, balance that budget (that was balanced when Clinton was in office) and then throw it all away choosing the wrong fights and then starting another before that one ends on into infinity. Sure! We need to put the Republicans up on pedestals, don't we?!

I would not be bringing this up if your comment isn't so blatantly wrong. They are not the people to claim success in balancing anything.

I am not against all Republicans and don't think they are all horrible. I just resent having them held up as heroes. They haven't earned that.
As you pointed out to the other poster.... - some of your comments
[ In Reply To ..]
are blantantly wrong. Review the vote for the Iraq war resolution...many Democrats did vote for it, and it could not have passed without them. As in ANY war that has been started. Only Congress can authorize force or declare war. That is your first wrong comment.

There WERE weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq. Stockpiles of nerve gas. Nerve gas IS a weapon of mass destruction. As the remaining Kurds if they agree. That was your second wrong comment. Also, if you will read the Iraq Resolution, WMD is only ONE part of it. There are several other parts to it.

They attacked the wrong country. Sooo...you are saying that the US, and all their allies, all of whom had the same intelligence we did, attacked the wrong country: Great Britain, Australia, Germany, France, to name a few....

Third thing - Clinton did NOT balance the budget. He was there when it happened, but that is about the totality of his contribution. http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=5656

Clue: we have stopped believing. We check for ourselves now. Guess you are sorry the midterms happened but once the cat is out of the bag it is sure hard to try to herd him back in, isn't it?

I'm so sorry I didn't save the really great article on fracking. It explained everything but this short report shows what they supposedly use in the PA fracking.

who are troubled by the recent shift to the far right that the Republican party has taken? I strongly believe in fiscal responsibility, and the party used to represent this, but now it seems like it has been hijacked by extremists and that greed is the motivating force in the current Republican party, along with draconian far-right ideas that leave little room for those of us who are more moderate. I find it very troubling, and I'm considering switching my party affiliation to Independent. ...

Dear GOP:  If you haven't realized it yet, the Tea Party is not just a game.  In a VERY liberal county, Miami-Dade in Florida, 88% of voters just FIRED (recalled) a tax-raising mayor who happened to be a Republican. He is the former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles. He put plenty of cash into this recall effort and helped ...

Republicans Have No Hearts, Huh?Apr 30, 2010
Statistically speaking, overall, there are more indiviual republicans that give more to charity year after year than democrats. However, when a Democrat is in charge, they tend to raise taxes in way that will help increase the amount of funds they can give to charity. Which way is better and why? IMO, It's better for individual citizens to decide if they will donate and what charity they will donate to, because it is their money and not the government's.For example, I have decide ...

With their terrible concern with ISIS and the handling of terrorist activities, they will risk the shut down of DHS? This just doesn't make sense.
