The thing that got me is I was interested to hear what Hillary (and Donald - about Social Security, NOT how nasty Hillary is!) was saying. It is a worry for us that they will try to play around with what they call "entitlements" - what I call my major retirement income - and you really want to know what they plan for that.
From the debate:
Clinton: "I am on record as saying we need to put more money into the Social Security trust fund," Clinton said. "That's part of my commitment to raise taxes on the wealthy. My Social Security payroll contribution will go up as will Donald's, assuming he can't figure out how to get out of it, but what we want to do is--"
Trump: "Such a nasty woman," Trump interjected.
Clinton: "--replenish the trust fund by making sure we have sufficient resources," Clinton continued, without missing a beat, "and that will come from either raising the cap and/or finding other ways to get more money into it. I will not cut benefits. I want to enhance benefits for low-income workers and for women who have been disadvantaged by the current social security system."
Really, Donald? Your pitifully insecure self with a massive ego picked that out of the entire statement? BTW, he never did say what he has planned, he never does, he just rambles on about something or other and never gets to the point we want to hear.
Well, now supposedly this is a media firestorm about Trump and women AGAIN, and we still do not know what he plans to do about SS. Crazy, or crazy like a fox?
Let's analyze her sentence further:
HILLARY CLINTON:
"I am on record as saying we need to put more money into the Social Security trust fund," Clinton said. "That's part of my commitment to raise taxes on the wealthy."
"My Social Security payroll contribution will go up as will Donald's, assuming he can't figure out how to get out of it, but what we want to do is replenish the trust fund by making sure we have sufficient resources, and that will come from either raising the cap and/or finding other ways to get more money into it"
"I WILL NOT CUT BENEFITS (caps mine). I want to enhance benefits for low-income workers and for women who have been disadvantaged by the current social security system."
Trump's focus:
"My Social Security payroll contribution will go up as will Donald's, assuming he can't figure out how to get out of it..."
Really, Donald? Honestly, it's such a small dig. After all, you did get out of paying taxes for 20 years so why is that not a fair dig? It is, you jerk. Calm yourself, idiot.
My focus:
"I will not cut benefits. I want to enhance benefits for low-income workers and for women who have been disadvantaged by the current social security system."
Hallelujah, that's what I like to hear.
Trump's only basic economic surety is that he will have massive tax cuts for the wealthy and businesses. AGAIN. That never works, can't they see that by now?
Also, Paul Ryan, who is the darling of the Republican party, has very scary stuff in his budget - he always wants to raise the retirement age and cut benefits. Nice for him, not so much for those of us aging women stuck in this horrible job which will leave us penniless.
Those of you who are on his side with this, what the heck is wrong with people who make more than $127,000 paying into Social Security based on all their income? Honestly, they wouldn't miss it, would they? How is that unfair, after all we pay SS tax on all our money we make, why shouldn't they?
