Canvassing for Bernie Sanders

Posted: Sep 14, 2015

Not one door that I knocked on said "no" they would not vote for Mr. Sanders in the primary.  A few needed more information and were yet undecided (as is to be expected).

The difference I really noted was that there were no adamant negative responses.  When canvassing for Pres. Obama there were many negative responses, and I was canvassing from Democratic rolls.  The above Sanders contacts were completely blind (no preference known at this time) .

Also, of interest, we have a predominantly female university here and the students I talked to from there were extremely supportive of Sanders.  I asked about Clinton and they said, no, she was not of interest to any of their friends at the school either.  Everyone they knew was voting Sanders.

;

He's speaking at Liberty University right now. That is the - college founded by Jerry Faldwell.

This is a great example of what should happen at a university. The student population probably is conservative and capitalist. Sanders is a socialist. The students get to hear different ideas and test them against their own ideas. It doesn't happen at many universities anymore. College is supposed to be a place where you're exposed to ideas. Not taught how bad America and conservatives are.

I expect the students there won't whine about "microaggressions"

Just a few years ago I might have thought that, but - human nature and the manipulative

[ In Reply To ..]
exploitation of it hasn’t change much. Youth today don't see anything wrong with socialism or communism. It's seen as a good thing. Time will tell.

Hillary, Sanders and all the Democrats are basically saying the - same thing, Sanders is trending

[ In Reply To ..]
up because Hillary has no personality.

When you promise people free stuff they will come. Look at Europe. The refugees aren't happy with some of the countries taking them in. They are headed toward Denmark and others that offer more welfare benefits. Now, Denmark says no more.

I am looking forward to seeing the "audience" - reactions--my bet

[ In Reply To ..]
they are a whole lot more accepting of Sanders than the administration wants them to be.

It's on C-SPAN. The adminstration invited him. - Not sure what you mean.

I don't know about that. See my other post. nm - Truthhurts

I bet they don't shout him down either like what happens to - conservatives groups on

campus.

No, they are good little automaton sheep - no misbehavior, at least in public

[ In Reply To ..]

As opposed to wolves in the other universities who - will eat you alive if you disagree.

Maybe because Bernie was willing to answer - questions and was not lying

[ In Reply To ..]
They students responded to his openness and honesty and cheered him.

Don't blame liberal universities on booing of Cheney et al. When they are asked questions and give bogus answers they are rightly called out by students (and recently even Chris Wallace on Fox, incredibly) and they don't like that but that doesn't mean it's not fair.

Truth is all in education, and truth does exist. It is not just well that's my opinion of what happened and that's yours. The truth is there were no WMDs, they started a war based on false pretenses, and Cheney made billions off it. If he would fess up and admit he made a mistake, maybe the reception would be better.

Oh, and while he's at it explain why the fracking ingredients have to be kept secret and how he got away with that one, which still inexplicably stands? That was a real fast one he pulled and I cannot for the life of me understand why we, as citizens who may live near the fracking, can't know what goes into it.

Dishonest conservatives who lie and think they are facing their usual audiences who listen to nothing but right wing radio and watch nothing but Fox will get a rude awakening if they expect the audience to be tame and not question their BS.

Scott Walker is just now realizing that not everyone hates unions and him bragging about what he has done to workers in his state is not something that is appealing to most voters.

Duh, why is everyone not cheering when I say I'm going to get rid of unions in the whole country? It worked before.
Sounds like something from the religion of - hopeychangey. Bernie plans
[ In Reply To ..]
to spend an additional $18,000,000,000,000.00.

It's all Monopoly money to the average voter. The EEEEEEEVIL Rich are good for it. We just need to tax them more.

Trillion is the new billion.
Excuse me, but I believe the religion of - warry warry and more warry
[ In Reply To ..]
Is far more Monopoly money, enriching the Dick Cheneys and impoverishing the rest of us.

Honestly, the rich are taxed much less than they have been in times past when this country was actually prosperous for all and the middle class existed. They have succeeded in lobbying tax loopholes and farming their money offshore and they actually pay less tax as a percentage of income than we do. Yeah yeah, they pay most of the tax in this country, and so they should, they make most of the money. They should pay more too, the same percent as we do!

For the life of me, I will never understand why the Mitt Romneys of the world (who have taken jobs like ours and offshored them and plundered retirement accounts and called it business) have people at our level defending them. Believe me, they don't need it, they can buy their own laws and they are laughing all the way to the bank - at those who make so little thinking they're great - when they are actually stealing the middle class!

It's not hopey-changey at all. I just choose to see reality and don't bow down to rich jerks who get away with murder.
Or maybe they are just more polite. I wish some university would - have a knowledgable adult
[ In Reply To ..]
on hand to counter some of the left-wing BS that appeals to youth. Many young people are naive, impressionable, and fairly easily manipulated.

Point out that they're the ones paying for this redistribution in the long run. Some of them will get it.

They did that to Ben Carson at Johns Hopkins believe it or not. - He withdrew from speaking at

[ In Reply To ..]
a medical commencement.

I watched part of his speech. - Truthhurts

I noticed that most of the students did not clap when he made a point or suggestion of what should be changed/done in the future. Some were very enthusiastic over the free college tuition.

I also noticed that the whole auditorium was full. Not a single empty seat that I could see. The kids seemed to be very intent of hearing what he had to say.

Would love to know if Hillary spoke there and, if so, what the reaction was to her.

Voters are hungry for honesty even if you arent telling - them what they want to hear,

[ In Reply To ..]
at least if you're an adult. I think that's the appeal of Trump.

These kids are young. They don't have an adult brain yet. Redistribution of wealth sounds good at this age. All and all, the questions weren't too bad.
Winston Churchill said socialism is a philosophy of envy and - equal sharing of misery.
[ In Reply To ..]
The Brits got rid of him and elected a socialist after WWII. They couldn't have him stand in the way of the socialist dream. Then, they elected him again from 1951-55 to get them through the Korean War (thanks UN for getting us into that), and to overcome the prior "progress" of socialism.

One of the first things Obama did was to send the bust of Churchill back to England. It was a gift in the Oval Office. How rude.

Today, abnormal has been redefined as normal and normal as abnormal.

I don't think Hillary was invited. I don't think she could - pull it off. At least Sanders is

[ In Reply To ..]
real where you disagree with him or not.

That's the contrast been Hillary and him. There's not an honest bone in her body.
Hillary - kitty lady
[ In Reply To ..]
Actually, Hillary Clinton is copying Bernie Sanders and just rewording what he has been saying for years. She does not have an original thought in her head. She is just copying what Bernie Sanders has said for years and years. At least he is consistent and not changing his mind all the time.

They say Convocation is required attendance - as it was with Cruz' announcing

[ In Reply To ..]
I haven't seen any of it, so I don't know if you mean they were listening intently or just purely the seats were full.
Both. nm - Truthhurts

There are two classes in socialism/communism, the very rich and the - very poor. The rich get favors from the

[ In Reply To ..]
elites who are rich themselves. They are equally rich and the poor are equally poor.

The communist infiltration of America has been done - since the 20th century.

[ In Reply To ..]
It's been done through psychological warfare with propaganda, infiltration, subversion and demoralization through moral and spiritual values, though our educational system and social structure.

Yuri Bezmenov ideological subversion is a long-term process with 4 stages: 1) demoralization, 2) destabilization, 3) crisis and 4) normalization. It picked up steam in the 1960s through art, pornography, socialist economics, pacifism, politics, etc.

We are in stage 4 now in 2015.
People forget there were 3500 communists professors here, - plus the state department,
[ In Reply To ..]
and spies in the 1930s. There really were communists in Hollywood, the universities, and spies in Washington.

Watched a fair amount of this now--it went - pretty well for Sanders

[ In Reply To ..]
There were many cheers. He didn't bring the house down or anything, but it was not deadly quiet either.

Bernie Sanders at Liberty University - excellent speech

[ In Reply To ..]
He was very well received. He stood his ground, he explained differences, but yet brought up the common ground and common sense that everyone should understand.

Still some undecideds, which, I find completely reasonable at this point in the process. There are a lot of people who won't get involved for a while. I have to emphasize to them that the primary is important this time and that is the reason we are canvassing. Of course, the message is the same. When we get him on the ticket, he will need the votes in the general election too, but this is about the primary. I did have one that absolutely had never heard of Bernie Sanders.  It ...

Income and wealth inequality: In the United States today we have the most unequal wealth and income distribution of any major country on earth -- worse than at any time since the 1920s. This is an economy that must be changed in fundamental ways. Jobs and income: In my view, we need a massive federal jobs program which puts millions of our people back to work. We must end our disastrous trade policies. We need to raise the minimum wage to a living wage. And we have to fight for pay equity ...

Voting For Bernie SandersJan 18, 2016
Now you all can flame me, but having lived through the 50s and 60s when Communism was a threat to our country, I cannot fathom anyone voting for Bernie Sanders.
