needs to be addressed more aggressively. I am so sick of all of the party crap that I could scream, it is tearing our country further and further apart. The bickering between the parties needs to stop and our government needs to do what is best for the people of this country. They are all at fault, not just one side or the other.

I don't know about Dems. They say the last true Dem was JFK but I've read a fair amount about his presidency, the Bay of Pigs fiasco, he couldn't get along with Congress, and things just weren't going very well during his aborted presidency. I wasn't alive at the time. All I know is the multitude of reading I've done on the subject. Regardless, it's a tragedy the way his life ended.

I can speak for republicans, a lot of them who like to call themselves "conservatives". Our party has lost their way and it's their own fault they got the crap beaten out of them in the last election.

I was 9 when Carter ran for office and by the time his term ended, I was a full-blooded republican. I grew up a Reagan Republican. It's a shame a lot of our party has lost its way since Reagan left office.

Some of my key conservative beliefs:

1. Smaller government.
2. Less government spending.
3. Less taxes.
4. The government works for us, not the other way around.
5. I'd like to believe in an honest government - you know - one where they all pay their taxes and follow the law.

I'll borrow a couple of conservative principles from Anthony Martin:

1. 'Government money' does not belong to government. It belongs to the taxpayers who worked hard for it, and who had funds deleted from their paychecks even before they got to see them.
2. Government social programs reward pathological dependency. True adults, unless hindered by debilitating physical impairment (my comment - we have truly disabled people out there and they MUST be taken care of by our gov't), seek independent living as free persons who are not stuck in an infantile dependency on the government nanny. (My commment - yeah, they provide WIC, food staples and a measley amount of money plus government housing and look at such housing - it's disgusting. I've seen military housing just as bad. It's a disgrace - which is why we never lived on base).
3. Human rights are not granted by government. They are inherent and automatic. We are 'endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights.' Government can only choose to recognize and protect those inherent rights.
4. The right to self-defense, as encapsulated in the 2nd Amendment, is the key to all of the other rights described in the Bill of Rights. Free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, and a free press are secured and kept secure by an armed citizenry. (My commment - No "Fairness Doctrine" crap. If you're going to impose that and try to get conservatives off of talk radio, you'd best take a good look at television stations and the unfair balance there).

And a couple from Russell Kirk:

1. The conservative believes that there exists an enduring moral order. That order is made for man, and man is made for it: human nature is a constant, and moral truths are permanent. (When I think of our society, often the words "moral decay" come to mind. I'm not perfect in any sense but our country's morals seem to get worse and worse every year).
2. Conservatives uphold voluntary community, quite as they oppose involuntary collectivism.

It goes way deeper than that. I can only hope that my party has opened its eyes and see how far they have gone from what they are supposed to stand for.

A good friend of ours from the Navy wrote a book called The Conservative Manifesto. I actually found a link to it. It's a short soft cover book and worth the read. It's written by Bill Hennessey. I cannot locate our autographed copy so I'm going to get another. He and his wife, Julie, were good friends of ours. They had 4 beautiful children, 1 girl, 3 boys. After they left the navy, the girl developed diabetes, and one morning she got up to get a bath. She was around age 6. She went into a diabetic coma in the bathtub and drowned. Tragic event for one of the best families I've ever known.

Anyway, here's the link if you're interested:

When Obama was elected, I wanted to see him succeed because if the economy succeeds, I succeed. But his outrageous spending has done nothing but disgust me. Pelosi needs to take the first bus out of Washington.

He made things better for the rich and harder for the poor. As for big gov't -Let's not forget that American government expanded faster under Reagan than anyone else since FDR, no matter what he said in his speeches. Reagan was a great speechgiver but ramped up the abysmal failure that was the War on Drugs and by the end had his calendar set by his wife's astrologist. He was a great man but people have a tenedency to gloss over the fallout from many of his policies.

That saying, we need responsible people of both parties to stop fighting and work for We The People. So let's start by working together and stopping with the name-calling that we see on this board.
Good post! I was a young adult, registered Democrat when Reagan (sm) - Nikki

was running for President, and as a Democrat, I voted for him.

I worked for Legal Aid at the time and lost my job under Reagan. I bought a house at 17% interest under Reagan. I still liked Reagan despite all of that, and then I grew up. (I remember my mortgage company calling when the rates went down to 16.5%, BEGGING me to refinance. I told him, no, the rate wasn't low enough. He said that this was as good as it was going to get and what do I want? I told him I wanted 5% or 6%, and he said I'd never see that kind of rate in my lifetime. (He obviously was wrong.)

Your last paragraph was my favorite, and I couldn't agree more. I hope we can rise above all that and begin to have civil discussions -- on both sides -- and put the blame on the politicians who are letting us down, not an anonymous poster who dares to utter an opinion that some of us might not agree with.

Yeah, but Reagan then made it better, - unlike the current bozo is doing!.nm

Reagan/Unemployment Rate - OHMT

[ In Reply To ..]
And Reagan's unemployment rate was down to 5.5% in 1988 but libs don't like to talk about good numbers like that. It was 5.3% when he left office in 1989.

What's amazing about Reagan is that he CUT taxes and STILL took in more government revenue than he would have if he had raised taxes.

You folks are the SAME hypocrites who get mad, calling others unpatriotic because we call out Obama on his UER yet you laugh about a couple of bad years of unemployment under Reagan (notice he had 2 bad years after taking office, then had a steady decline). Don't forget that Reagan followed a man, a socialist named Jimmy Carter, just like Obama. Reagan had a huge mess to clean up. You folks are getting great joy that for a couple of years Reagan's UER was high. What is the matter with you?

I don't have the same fond memories you have for Reagan years. (Rockin Ronnie Reagan got some cheese for you). "We" don't call "you" unpatriotic for disagreeing with Obama's policies. You can certainly disagree with his policies without attacking his character and his motives. As far as your quote from Ann Coulter - sad that is all you have in your quote bag. Her comments about the 9/11 widows is just one of her stunts that should have led to her shunning by the people and the media in this country.

Fact is Regan was the first president who knew that American could not sustain its spending habits so his solution to not raise taxes was to sell our debt to China. Under 2 Rep. administrations one the banks fell and one the savings and loans fell. The problem is if you spend it, somebody has got to pay for it. Republicans talk the talk but don't walk the walk they want it both ways and it cannot be. Lets make the rich pay. They have gotten filthy rich over the last 8 years.

I don't like Ann Coulter. I find her totally annoying and her voice grates in my nerves, and I cannot stand the way she laughs, but to call her that word is so uncalled for. There are a lot of people I don't like but I don't call them all the "c" word just because I don't like them. Otherwise the list would start with Pelosi & Clinton.
So it goes to just you - interesting

But you have misunderstood my message I didn't call them that word. I stated that Ann C has done nothing to deserve being called that word. I said if we called people that word just because we didn't like them "the list would start with Pelosi & Clinton". I didn't say they ARE that word, I said that "if" we called people that word just because we didn't like them it would start with those two. Which simply means I don't like those two people. Not that they are the "c" word.

She tells the truth (it quite amusing at it) and that makes libs afraid.
I know - I see I never received an answer - see message - just me
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't really care too much for her. This is why (which is all the stupid reasons). She's annoying, she gets on my nerves, and her laugh is like fingernails on a chalkboard. (see stupid reasons not to like someone). With me she's in the same category as Rush. They may be annoying but they are right. I can personally dislike someone but what they say, if its the truth I want to hear it. The problems with liberals in the same positions as them (Olberman, Matthews, Maddow, etc) is that not only are they annoying but they are also wrong 99% of the time.

Nobody deserves to be called a "c" just because someone doesn't like them and I think it's very low class to do so. Especially when there are women in congress who are much more deserving of that title. Not that I'm calling them one, but they have earned it more than anything Ann Coulter says.

You are right on though. She tells the truth and she can laugh about a lot of things going on that are wrong. Libs usually do not like to listen to the truth.

When you start seeing the libs attacking conservatives you know they must be doing something right because the libs fear the truth. And more so they fear the American people knowing the truth. There are many conservatives they fear. Just look at all the ones they vehemently attack for now good reason.
It is obvious from your - posts

I'm uptight because I read her books (I read, not listen - I learned to read at a very young age)? No. She's actually just very funny (I have a wide range of reading from history to true crime to murder mysteries, medical mysteries and biographies, etc.). Coulter's books are downright hysterical and I giggle out loud quite a bit when I read them, which causes a lot of looks from people in doctors' offices, etc. Why do you feel she's such a threat? Because she speaks the truth? If she spoke nonsense, you wouldn't feel the need to speak so badly of her and refer to her as the "C" word.

Gotta love libs - can't come up with a good argument, so the namecalling begins. Uptight? Whatever. Have a nice night, sweetie.

Obama 2 years? Funny how it's okay for Reagan to tank in "cleaning up Carter's mess," but the minute "Obama cleaning up Bush's mess is mentioned," it's not even considered. Talk about hypocrites.
Well it would be one thing if he was cleaning up - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
But he is not cleaning up. The messes Bush created are being perpetuated and continued. Since we were told during the campaign when we brought up things about Dear Leaders past we were told by the worshipers to stop looking to the past, look towards the future and all the great and wonderful things that he is going to do for everyone. So I now say it is now time for you to stop looking to the past and blaming Bush for every single little thing that is happening today. You need to look to the present and the future. However we are now in Bush term 3. It's getting worse and worse and worse. I just feel very very sorry for the next president in 2012 that will have to try and clean up after 2 failed presidents.

I agree with you about Colin Powell. (sm) - Nikki
[ In Reply To ..]
What seems like many years ago, there was talk about Powell running for President. I was so hoping he would because I would have voted for him in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I never had that opportunity.

Obama has a four-year term. If he wants a positive legacy, I believe he'll find a way to turn this all around before/if he leaves in 2012. I'm in favor of giving him a chance to do his job because his legacy DOES matter as the first African-American President in history, and I think he's smart enough to know this.

Something can be damaged in a matter of days, weeks or months. It takes a lot longer to fix what's broken, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

[ In Reply To ..]
So what if it was 8.1%. Doesn't excuse Dear Leader for continuing on with no hopes of recovery.

Bush inherited a 4% unemployment. Which means he created 4% unemployment over 8 years.

Unemployment is now over 10% (in our town it is at 18%, but lets stick with the figures on the news of over 10%). That means he created over 2% unemployment in less than one year. Don't even give him credit for a full year. This is in less than one year he created over 2% unemployment, and in an area like mine it means he created over 10% unemployment in less than one year. Give him 3 more years and the devastation will be so bad nobody will care about the percentage (or whose fault it is), they will only care about how they are going to survive.

Dear Leader has more than doubled in LESS than ONE year what it took Bush 8 years to do.

No comparison.

Unemployment - OHMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Hey - how about that - Bozo did something better than Reagan. He topped his 1983 unemployment rate. Of course - fair is fair - Reagan DID inherit Carter's legacy so if BO can still blame things on Bush almost a year later, I suppose we might be able to let Reagan blame this one on Carter 2 years after Reagan took office because I can promise you one thing - if things are still going to crap in 2 years - Bozo is STILL going to be blaming Bush.

Anyone here know what the unemployment rate was during the Great Depression? Anyone wanna guess? Eh, I'll give you the answer - 25%. Good job, BO. You're almost half way there. Keep up the good work. You, Peolosi, Reid. Keep spending those trillions on TARP, cap and trade, Cash for Clunkers which cost each taxpayer over $10,000 per car, your stimulus which you tried to sell in Europe and they turned down. Guess what? No stimulus package in Europe and their economy is recovering one heck of a lot faster than ours.

The only reason Bozo's numbers have been up twice is his stupid Cash for Clunkers and the First time buyers house tax credit. As soon as those programs end, his numbers drop again.

He's in over his head. As much as I despise Hillary, I think she's a little more qualified for the job.

If I were you folks, I'd start stocking up on non-perishable food while you can afford it. We have been for quite some time. And if you're an Obama idiot, don't come knocking on our door for food.
