Normally in a democracy the government works to expand its citizens' rights. Look what has been going on in the GOP held states: Voter suppression, curtailment of women's rights by banning abortion and closing clinics even though constitutionally a right (at least for now), union busting, replacing duly elected officials with appointed city managers, etc.
It is very likely that within the next four years the new president will have the job of replacing up to 4 new supreme court judges. Again, do you want someone who will be looking out for all citizens rights or someone who will be currtailing our rights based on their religious philosophy?
What has been going on the states reminds me of the famous quote, often found in different versions, by Martin Niemoller:
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out– because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out– because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out– because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out– because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me– and there was no one left to speak out for me.
