and before long the spector of being bankrupted by a single illness in spite of insurance will be behind us. In 2014 coverage for preexisting conditions will kick in. An end to cancellations for that reason that have caused so much unnecessary misery and death.

And the individual mandate. Government-sponsored insurance plans through the state exchanges that the commercial plans have to compete with. Not everyone wants to have this choice, but for those who do--2014. :)

Because in Louisiana, the governor has opted out of Obamacare and cut Louisiana State University's budget for healthcare drastically. LSU runs big clinics and a couple hospitals that take charity patients. Those clinics are also used to train doctors.

Now, these hospitals and clinics are between a rock and a hard place. Under EMTALA, they've got to treat whoever shows up in the ER. But they will no longer get reimbursed for indigent care by the feds. And they've got less personnel to do it with.

It must be the conservatives' wet dream to see people literally dying in the streets. Looks like they might get their wish in Louisiana.

Self-curing problem. :) PROVIDERS lose money big time, - not just patients their healthcare.

so .. with Obamacare .. you can expect:

The very well-trained expert physicians will NOT participate in the gov. sponsored insurance (like Medicaid now), so you will get sub-par care.

You will be told what medicines you can take, not even given the opportunity to take what would work best ..

You will wait for tests .. or be refused tests (must get CT instead of MRI, when MRI clearly the better choice) ..

You will have to be on the govt. sponsored plan because, sure, you have insurance available to you but who the heck can afford it?

You can have money taken out of your bank account by the govt. without your knowledge or approval .. thanks to OHC.

and so much more .. there are things that were vitally needed, and pre-existings is one of them .. but .... big picture, it is not a good thing, IMHO

Waiting for hours or all day at clinics. Being treated by residents and nurse practitioners instead of doctors. Not being able to afford lifesaving medications.

Getting treated like cr*p by the RNs and LPNs on the floor when they're admitted to the hospital. Oh yes indeed. They look up who's a charity patient and treat 'em like cr*p. I know this for a fact.

As somebody else pointed out, there's too many MTs who fall into this category.

poor or not, we are ALL limited by our health insurance plans in terms of physicians, tests, treatments, and medication. I have no idea what "to be traded for" is referring to, but I would love to know what insurer allows her to pick the tests, doctors, and medications of her choice.

I just read the healines that Russel Means passed away. I cannot tell you how sad that makes me. DH and I kept up with his progress when he was sick. We prayed for his well being.
