That unlike the GOVERNOR races, which went to the GOP, that this is one MORE Democratic seat in the Democratic-led Congress.
;
I was also glad to see Owens take the seat as was expected after the strange shenanigans and infighting in the Republican party. I am also disheartened at the Republican wins in VA and NJ, though I agree they aren't yet as important.
What disturbs me the most is the dropoff in the youth vote. As I remember, America's youth have traditionally been good at pouring out when things get bad enough, but they are also traditionally good at disappearing again when things settle down and/or when things don't change quickly enough. I think that is true to some degree for all age groups, but when the young 'uns come out we have a chance at change. The older voters (eep, I'm in that bracket now!) tend to vote more conservatively, to keep things as they were when these people were going up. For many, that means Republican (Reagan+Bush+Bush=20 years!).
The losses the Dems suffered in this off-year election go to show that we cannot let our guard down if we expect to give Obama a chance to make his platform work. If we do to him what we did to Clinton, if we let the Republicans control congress again, the party of no will just castrate the president. We will spend the rest of Obama's term going nowhere fast, which is equivalent to going backwards in this quickly changing world.
Maybe some lunch will cheer me up ^^
