State Department leaves contractors in Afghanistan without
Posted: Aug 15, 2016
Surrounded by increasing violence and instability, U.S. contractors left behind in Afghanistan are raising alarm about the potential for another Benghazi tragedy, saying the State Department isn't sharing with them a plan to evacuate if insurgents launch a debilitating attack.
The concerns are heightened by the fact that many of those civilians doing the security and nation-building work of the U.S. government hold sensitive security clearances, making them an attractive target for the enemy.
"It's not just a political nightmare for somebody, it's people lives at stake," said Kevin Ofchus, head of Georgia-based firm Host Nations Perspectives Southwest Asia (HNPSWA) that has security contracts in Afghanistan.
And his sentiments are widely shared by a dozen other federal contractors in theater interviewed by Circa, some of whom would only talk on condition of anonymity because they feared reprisal from Washington.
Several said they are resigned to fight their own way out of a crisis, just like the real-life Benghazi contractors portrayed in the movie 13 Hours.

Any contractor that works with this administration after - Benghazi is nuts.

Did you see 13 Hours? Some of these guys were contractors.
You are ill-informed. Some of the contractors are there - to establish services for the populace.

We all have a democratic duty to know what we're talking about when we post on public forums, don't you agree? Or is spreading misinformation one of the "rights" guaranteed by the Constitution?

war is a profit machine. The wars are being created to support major industries in the economy. Human suffering is a by-product that it seems many think acceptable, so long as it is not in their backyard. In Vietnam it was so long as it was not of their economic class here in the U.S. (i.e. blacks and poor were drafted, etc).
Heard of Halliburton?
And as to "there to establish services for the populace" that is just a sick circular argument. We go in and bomb the bejeezuz out of the country and then send in people to rebuild. What is that a way to create a feel-good scenario. Keep those billions at home and feel good here.

You should be glad to know Halliburton has laid off about 15,000 workers. Does that make you happy?

Most of the bids for contractors are sucked up by gov. - bureaucrats, DOD and reach all the way to DC.

As someone certified in federal government contracting, I can assure you - that you are ill-informed.
[ In Reply To ..]
For instance, the DOD is a contracting agency, not a contractor. In rare cases, the contracting agency may, perfectly appropriately, undertake the work in question itself, but ONLY when there is no acceptable bidder from the contracting community.
Please make the effort to inform yourself rather than post misinformation.
In some instances the DOD awards contracts to friends of politicians. - I've witnessed this myself.

So anyone who knows a politician or is a friend cannot have a DOD contract? - all smiles
[ In Reply To ..]
Politicians know lots and lots and lots of people. That is how they got elected.
So none of their friends or acquaintances can have a government contract?
One degree or two degrees of separation should be sufficient.
Imagine the benefit we would lose from the many good contractors who know politicians. Maybe we would have to hire the inferior contractor and get less quality.
Ask Nancy Pelosi. She knows all about that. It's like - insider trading. They get contracts

If they are worried about their safety, maybe they should just leave the country? No one is forcing them to be there. Of course, they are making a fortune while there....
