Senator Lieberman calls for 'preemptive' attack on Yemen

Posted: Dec 28, 2009

(I personally think this is crazy talk. Al Qaeda is in a LOT of countries, probably including the USA. Does that mean we should launch a "preemptive attack" on ourselves? War mongers cry poor when it comes to healthcare for Americans, but they always seem to have enough money for wars. I have to wonder if any of this has to do with Lieberman having dual citizenship with Israel, and I wonder where his loyalty truly lies.)

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Senator Joeseph Lieberman (I-CT), who leads the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, has a vision of "tomorrow's war."

"Somebody in our government said to me in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, Iraq was yesterday’s war," Lieberman explained. "Afghanistan is today’s war. If we don’t act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow’s war. That’s the danger we face."

Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA), also appearing on the program, seemed to agree, calling an attack against Yemen "something we should consider."

Let me say, first, that I'm qualified by education and training to speak to the question of global terrorism.

During the Clinton administration, we developed a lot of intel about the situation with Al Qaeda as well as the Taliban, and in particular the numerous terrorist training camps that were springing up in Afghanistan and elsewhere. Had we taken preemptive actions against those camps at that time, it is at least a reasonable assumption that the events of 9/11 would never have occurred.

Preemptive actions do not necessarily mean launching a war and are often the only means of preventing a festering situation from developing into a war. If you'll read Liebermann's actual words, you'll see that preventing tomorrow's war (in Yemen) was what he was advocating and NOT starting a war.

Funny how the press has a way of turning words on their head to say what they want them to say, isn't it?

Yep.. and amazing how the left eats it up. - Ignorance is bliss. nm

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Obama has long-term goals and wants to do bold, new things. That is exactly what is freakin' out the bags. So plez make up your mind - do you want to repeat history (stick with the policies that are not working expecting new results) or try a bold new approach - what the US is known for.
Or else you can just jab at the left at any opportunity.
Your comment bolsters the "ignorance is bliss". - mtt22

Obama is weakening this country, not making it stronger. "Bold new approach"..that is laughable. What bold new approach, huh? Bowing down to enemies, spending trillions we don't have? He has no new ideas. He is just like a little child in a candy shop. He makes decisions without thinking anything through, just like making a timetable on Gitmo and stating the stimulus would keep unemployment from going above 8 pct. He has not a clue and, apparently, neither do you.

I want to hear him clarify his statement because (sm) - Nikki

US Helped Yemen's Strike Against al-Qaida

December 19, 2009
Associated Press

The U.S. provided firepower and other aid to Yemen in its strike this week against suspected al-Qaida hide-outs and training sites within its borders, the New York Times reported.

President Barack Obama approved the military and intelligence support, which came at the request of the Yemeni government. It was intended to help stem growing attacks against American and other foreign targets in Yemen, the Times reported in its online editions late Friday.
