Sen. Rockefeller:FCC should Take Fox, MSNBC Off Airwaves

Posted: Nov 19, 2010

Nothing like suggesting censorship. The link I'm providing will have a video you can watch too.  In another video, he thinks the internet is the cause of terrorist attacks because of all the information out there. Is he losing it... or does he just believe we should not have free speech anymore?

"Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller stopped by a retransmission consent meeting Wed afternoon – chaired by John Kerry. When he took the floor, he gave his opinion of the current state of media in America – and what he thinks should be done about it.

” There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: “Out. Off. End. Goodbye.” It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.”

He is saying the world would be a better place - without Fox and MSNBC--he is right.

He is right. He certainly is not calling for censorship.

What I do find interesting, is whatever happened to the legislation about "ala carte" TV programming where you only buy what you want to watch? I know I have 200 channels and watch about 10. When we had a big C-band dish I only paid for the channels I wanted and my bill was about $8 per month. I certainly agree that I should not have to pay for the junk TV out there, which includes Fox. I find MSNBC has redeeming qualities.

censorship! - GOPmt

he is suggesting censorship plain and simple. I find it rather odd that you would find MSN redeeming as they have NO hard news shows at all, simply far-left professional opinions. So much for hearing ALL sides of the story.

And we would take another step toward becoming... - sam

Venezuela north.

He is NOT right. The government needs to stay the heck out of TV..and radio...they already tried this with talk radio. This is all about limiting the message.

He wants us to depend on those-who-don't-read-bills-before-they-are-voted-on-because-they-are-too-long?

Don't think so. And we need at least ONE TV station out there who still lets conservatives speak. Sheesh.

They're just threatened....... - tstone

because Fox has better ratings than all the other news shows/channels combined. Hmmm.......I wonder why that is. Is it because people are fed up with the mainstream media's sorry attempt at reporting the news? Is it because Fox actually makes people want to get involved in the process? God forbid we stick our noses into big government issues. They don't like having to answer to anyone and that's what Fox does....it exposes all the crap going on in Washington. What happened to Obama's promise of transparency? Is that what you call shoving through an albatross of a healthcare bill behind closed doors?
Yep...when he promised that it would be on C-SPAN. - sam

just another "promise" that bites the dust.

What is censorship? What station would be next? - Backwards Typist

[ In Reply To ..]
If he would be successful in getting those two stations off the air, who would be next? NBC? ABC? CBS? C-Span? I'd bet it would be C-Span because they are the eyes of the House and Senate.

What you don't seem to realize is that once a government starts 'whittling' away at freedoms, it's all downhill from there. Little by little, they erode the freedom and one day the people wake up and ask, "How did this happen?" By then, it's too late. It could happen here, though unlikely, but that's why everyone has to stay on their toes.

I disagree - I don't think the world would be a better place - see message

Whose place is it to say the world would be a better place with only certain stations spoon-feeding us what they want us to know? Jay? So who does he propose to tell us what shows we should be watching and what not to. Who is he going to determine feeds us our news and what they will be allowed to tell us.

Here's something I though about yesterday as I heard this on the Beck show. All the stuff that Beck tells his audience about. Not once have I ever heard the other side come out and say "your wrong because..." or "that's not true". All I keep hearing is they want to shut him down. That tells me one thing....that Beck IS telling the truth and they don't like it and it scares them.

So my other questions is if they did shut down Beck, all the stuff we are learning about Soros, what's going on in the whitehouse behind closed doors, Van Jones, ACORN, the laws that are being broken, the congress voting themselves pay raises while the country suffers, etc, etc....if Beck wasn't telling us about what's going on where would we find out? Surely not from any other the news stations. Fox is the only channel that gives conservatives a chance to speak. I've watched all the others (MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, etc, etc). They are all left leaning and they never ever have given the full story. Only what they want to feed the audiences.

So I respectfully disagree with you...he is NOT right and this is most definitely calling for censorship. When you decide what the country is allowed to hear and what they should not hear - that is epitome of censorship.

I do however, love the idea of ala carte. I was just telling DH last night as I flipped through over 100 channels and the only thing I found decent to watch was reruns of Law & Order. Out of all those channels I only watch maybe 5 or 6 stations. So why should I have to pay for all the junk I don't watch. I just said last night we should be allowed to pay for what we only watch and I wouldn't have to flip threw channels for 20 minutes to finally find one show I'm interested in.

I do have a question that I'm curious about. You said MSNBC has redeeming qualities. What do you think they are? I used to watch that station for what seemed like the entire Bush presidency. Then during the elections a couple years ago I finally realized I didn't like them. They were nasty to certain guests, they had no original thoughts of their own, they bashed and trashed anyone who isn't a liberal. Mathews totally went off the deep end with his "thrill" comments, Olberman became insufferable yelling at the TV and his stupid Worst Person routine, and Maddow just became a snob and I don't know the name of how you would describe her attitude, but she got this haughty know it all attitude and if anyone disagreed her face was like whatever someone else believed she would give a look like they were stupid if they didn't agree with her. Then Nora Odonnell popped up and talk about stupid as a stick. She didn't do any researching and just repeated whatever she heard no matter how stupid it sounded. My friend told me to watch Fox and it was like a lightbulbe was turned on. I started hearing what was really going on. I'd compared the two stations news stories and while Fox told us the whole story MSNBC only would show you the clips/segment of what they wanted the audience to see. Anyway...those are my opinions of the two stations. I'm just curious to know what redeeming qualities you believe MSNBC has. It's a serious question and I certainly will not come back and cut you down or anything for your beliefs. I would just like to know.

But I do love ala cart programming.

The only redeeming quality I found with MSNBC is - Backwards Typist

(drumroll please) Dylan Ratigan. I doubt he will be on that station long because of his views.  This whole week has been Fraudclosure. A couple weeks ago, it was about the financial system and fraud. I watch him every day.

I'd like to stuff Ed Shultz down in my septic system. LOL As for Chris and Rachel, you have them pegged perfectly.

Oh please. It IS censorship. ..and Fox is not junk tv. - you say that because you disagree with them and

would prefer they be taken off the air since they dont praise the dems all the time. --can read right between the lines in your message.

Fox - vannie

Agreed! Fox is interesting, informative, and anything BUT ''junk'' news. Interesting that criticisms against Fox are usually vague and unsubstantiated and usually resort to juvenile name calling (i.e. ''faux news''--silly and not worthy of a 5th grader.)

MSNBC Really Needs To Get A GripNov 05, 2010
I guess Matthews didn't learn his lesson.  His utter hatred and ignorance has gone too far and if MSNBC wants to hold onto any ratings they may have (which I doubt they have any), they better get a handle on this nut case.  He has got to be one of the most rude people I have ever come across.  How could I have been so blind to watch him for what seemed like forever when Bush was in office.  The guy needs to get on some meds.  First he invites a person on his show as ...

It took a while, but MSNBC President Phil Griffin has finally admitted and embraced his cable network's hard-left slant.
