Politico, NBC, ABC, MSNBC Criticize

Posted: Oct 9, 2012

by John Nolte 9 Oct 2012, 6:42 AM PDT54 At the same time Team Obama released a childish ad hitting Mitt Romney for daring to consider removing multimillionaire, one-percenter Big Bird from the federal government welfare rolls, the Romney campaign released a devastating graphic that shows that since his debate debacle, Barack Obama has mentioned Big Bird and Elmo 13 times but has not mentioned Libya or his plan to fix the economy even once. ;

But it IS funny. and you know who deserves it. :) - No more.

Yes, it's "funny" that the MSM - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
is criticizing Obama - something he's not used to. And you're also correct, he does deserve that. "Funny" what his campaign's focus is.

Even the Sesame Workshop - wants the ad taken down.

[ In Reply To ..]
"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down," Sesame Workshop said in a statement.

Romney is the one who first politicized PBS...sm - VTMT

by specifically bringing up Big Bird as an example in the debate.

And then he let it go - and has been focusing on policy.

[ In Reply To ..]
Not so the Obama campaign. They're still stuck on Big Bird.
It WAS policy and he's now running from the feedback. - As usual. Come on guys. THIS is your strong man?NM

Do you know of another candidate running? - Romney supporter
[ In Reply To ..]
People always say this as though we don't want Romney. Romney is the republican candidate, he is a strong leader, I understand his stance on policies perfectly well. Obama? Well he's not talking policy at all. I guess he's still depending on all those women to swoon at his feet and faint at the mention of his name. He still has the god complex. Luckily a lot of people have wised up over the past 3 years. I'd like to hear Obama's stance on policies. Just not getting anything except attack mode.

So I say to YOU - "Come on guys. THIS is your strong man?"
Romney BETTER start focusing on policy, because - so far he has yet to come up with one.

Oh, stop it. For Heaven's sake. If that weren't so (sm) - Texan

silly, it would be funny. Romney POLITICIZED Big Bird? OMG. He was illustrating how unnecessary expenditures could be addressed. He was given a very small example. You liberals always want examples. He gave one tiny example and the media has done nothing but talk about it all week. This is beyond ridiculous. I daresay Big Bird generates enough income to manage without the allotment by the government. Now Obama is so desperate he's making a complete fool of himself - did you see the Big Bird ad they made? (of course, I'm sure the Big Guy knew nothing about it). He even used BB and made a joke about O.J. in the same little speech to Hollywood. He's such a fool.
The thing is that the Big Bird comment was...sm - oldtimer
[ In Reply To ..]
rehearsed, meant to draw a laugh. That's OK, but don't expect the democrats not to capitalize on the reference.
For a frigging week? Is that all they have to talk about? - me
[ In Reply To ..]
Nothing in their bag of tricks that is more important? Like the coverup in Libya? No, I guess they don't want to talk about that - that's why no press conference for 15 days and Hillary hiding.
Has it been that long? - Didn't realize.
[ In Reply To ..]
Not surprised tho
Jay C is in hiding with Hillary. LOL - Don't blame him a bit - 15 days is a long tim

To me, this ad shows two things. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
1) An instinctive understanding of how to tap into what social media (read: a bunch of voters) are thinking in the moment, and

2) An ability to focus on more than one issue at a time, which seems to be a critical skill for a job like the POTUS.

I'd wonder if Team Romney had inserted that Big Bird quote into his mouth because they knew it would fire up the meme machine and serve as a distraction, but I don't think, as a group, they're that clever.

Aw, gee. I read it was Big Bird 8, Elmo 5. Here's my synopsis. - backwards typist

Would Mitt Romney really fire Big Bird?

“I love Big Bird, but I’m not going to keep on spending money on things we'd have to borrow money from China to pay for.”

Of all the news that came out of the debate, it was the Big Bird comment that’s had the most comments and attention.

Conservatives have long attacked PBS for its perceived liberal bias, and presidents dating back to Richard Nixon have attempted to slash or cut its funding entirely — Big Bird himself usually isn’t. The 8’ 2″ muppet has never registered with any party and tries to work with both Democrats and Republicans, according to Sherrie Westen, executive vice president of Sesame Workshop.

As of today, the count is Big Bird 8, Elmo 5, mentioned in a political ad against Romney. The count mentioning Libya and of the economy -- 0. What is more important?

The ad’s narrator states: "Big ... Yellow ... A menace to our economy ... Mitt Romney knows it's not Wall Street you have to worry about, it's Sesame Street." Also from the ad: "Mitt Romney -- taking on our enemies, no matter where they nest."

The Sesame Street people have asked the Obama campaign to take down an ad featuring Big Bird. "Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns," said the organization in a statement. "We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down."

The Obama campaign said it would take the request under advisement.

I have to admit, the ad is a bit funny, but can't believe they'd take it so seriously with all the important issues facing this country.

Agree. :) But PBS IS under constant threat of destruction, - like SocSec, and Dems their protector. NM
