MSNBC really needs to get a grip

Posted: Nov 5, 2010

I guess Matthews didn't learn his lesson.  His utter hatred and ignorance has gone too far and if MSNBC wants to hold onto any ratings they may have (which I doubt they have any), they better get a handle on this nut case.  He has got to be one of the most rude people I have ever come across.  How could I have been so blind to watch him for what seemed like forever when Bush was in office.  The guy needs to get on some meds.  First he invites a person on his show as a guest and then tried to make fun of her.  Asking Michelle Bachman if she was in a trance.  I guess he thought he was being cute but it really back fired on him.  And talk about a red face when she said "I guess that thrill doesn't feel so good anymore".  Great response Michelle.  Then he was heard off camera to say "I never said that".  OMG, talk about as stupid as a stick.  Are you forgetting what year you live in Chris?  Don't you realize we have you on video talking about the tingle up your leg.  Someone needs to tell this dude if you are going to have a guest on your show if you disagree with them about politics that's fine, but to just be downright rude is unacceptable.

But guess he didn't make enough of a fool of himself, but this went way past reasonable.  Tonight I heard him interviewing a guest and talking about Sarah Palin.  Boy does she really get to him.  He actually had the gall to say to his guest:  “Have you ever been an eyewitness to her actually reading something?” Matthews badgered. “Have you seen her – no, I’m dead serious about this. Have you ever seen her reading words on a piece of paper? A newspaper, magazine, anything? Have you ever seen her read something?”  Talk about really showing what an idiot you are.  Does Matthews really think she does not know how to read?  Talk about looking like the fool.  Someone needs to point out, you don't graduate from a University with a degree if you can't read.

Doesn't this dude realize how much of an idiot he ends up looking like.  If MSNBC wants to remain on the air they need to get this dude under control.  And with his little side kick Mini me Ollberman (a.k.a. little girlie giggler) right behind him.  No wonder their ratings are plummeting.  They are the proof that MSNBC is hiring mentally imbalanced and insane people.

Chris doesn't hold a candle to Ed Shultz - Backwards Typist

Turned him on the day after the election to see what he had to say. I beat my own record turning him off. If anyone should be fired, it should be him. The hate he spews is absolutely sickening. Guess he has taken a few lessions for the others. It's people like him who keep people divided.

Hopefully, MSNBC will wise up but I doubt it.

Here is a challenge for you - because I agree

[ In Reply To ..]
I also do not watch Chris Matthews or Ed Schultz because I don't think they are worth watching. I think Fox has 2 reasonably good news people, Shep and Wallace. How about you watch Lawrence O'Donnell or Rachel Maddow for one week and I will try watch Beck or Bill O.

Sorry, no can do. - Backwards Typist

[ In Reply To ..]
I tried to be fair with RM and did watch her earlier this year but couldn't take her nonsense. I even turn off Meet the Press when she's on.

Don't know who Lawrence O'Donnell is. Want to clue me in?

I do watch Shep cause he can be funny. Try Bret Baier some time. Don't know when Wallace is on, so haven't seen him. I switch between Neil Cavuto and Dylan Ratigan, both on a 4 p.m. and when I'm up at 5 a.m., I watch Bill O and sometimes, believe it or not, KO if I need a mood change (reruns from the night before), mostly I watch him out of curiousity to see who KO's going to bash that day.

I haven't seen Beck in quite a while. As for Chris M, I'm usually leaving the house around that time and DH is so disgusted with politics that I can't have any of those station on when I get back.

Sigh. I can see where - you would find RM
[ In Reply To ..]
overwhelming and irritating with all of those hard facts and figures and excellent research. Lawrence must really be scary for you.
Sigh - you really believe that??? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
If you call spewing hatred and her injecting her assumptions as "facts", sorry just gotta laugh at that statement.

Excellent research??? Really? You really believe that? I used to listen to her, when I also used to listen to Mathews and Olberman during the Bush years. Now I find all three of them insufferable little whiners, who certainly do no research on what they talk about. The last thing I listened to Maddow about was some pizza thing. I thought, maybe if she ever reports on facts then I'll listen to her. But since she doesn't I don't. Unless of course you call researching reading some liberal site and then regurgitating the same things word for word.

I know who Lawrence O'Donnell is. Truthfully I have never listened to him and I don't even know if he has his own show. I have heard him comment every once in awhile, but I've never seen him in his own show if he has one. I think he's okay (from what little I've heard him comment about). I will admit at least he has a little more in the brains than Nora O'Donnell. I'm still trying to decide who is the lesser intelligent...Nora O'Donnell or the Miss Teen USA when talking about why people can't find the United States on a world map.

On a separate note I just found an article that said Keith Olberman has been suspended from MSNBC indefinitely without pay.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/05/keith-olbermann-suspended_n_779586.html

Way to go Griffin. Now can you please get rid of Matthews. Get some people in that don't bleed so bitter.

I take back part of my comments. Everyone knows he's a dem and they suspended him for donating to 3 democratic campaigns? Their policy is

As the article pointed out:
"There was some head-scratching about MSNBC’s decision, since it is well known that Mr. Olbermann is a liberal newsman. There were defenders, including a writer for the libertarian magazine Reason, Michael C. Moynihan, who wondered why MSNBC had a “one-size-fits-all policy” about contributions.

Mr. Moynihan asked, “Isn’t it unfair to hold Olbermann, who is one of the most partisan people on television (if not of Earth), to the same standards as, say, Brian Williams? Countdown exists to promote Democratic candidates and liberal policies, which is just fine by me. So why shouldn’t Olbermann, as a private citizen, be allowed to donate money to those candidates he plumps for on television?”....

...

"MSNBC’s policy, as published by msnbc.com in 2007, states that “anyone working for NBC News who takes part in civic or other outside activities may find that these activities jeopardize his or her standing as an impartial journalist because they may create the appearance of a conflict of interest. Such activities may include participation in or contributions to political campaigns or groups that espouse controversial positions. You should report any such potential conflicts in advance to, and obtain prior approval of, the President of NBC News or his designee.”Frown

So, KO's boo-boo was not getting 'prior approval'? Give me a break. Last I looked, this was still a free country.  Believe it or not, I'm on KO's side this time. Surprised

I respectfully disagree with you - here's why - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
It states in their policy that if they participate in such activities they are to notify their superiors. Yes we all know what KOs viewpoints are. Particularly I don't want to see him fired as he provides his comedy routine nightly which is fun to watch, especially if you are insane. HA HA. He broke the rules by not notifying them he was donating. Why didn't he notify them? Probably the for exact reasons why they want insiders to tell them they are going to donate to a candidate and then push that candidate on their show. He used his show to influence voters into voting for the candidate he supports. This is (for lack of better words), neither fair or balanced. A news station is not suppose to influence and be partisan towards one side.

I don't particularly care for KO. While I don't like to see anyone get fired, he and Matthews are in a different boat. They are using their air time to influence voters. If they want to get people to vote for them then they should join the campaign trail.

If one station can fire Juan Williams for what he did, then KO should be fired for what he did, and Mr. Tingle Matthews should also be fired (or reprimanded for what he did). Their blatant hatred and un-fairness should be stopped. Those two are going to be the downfall of MSNBC if they don't get a handle on them.

But back to KO, I agree with MSNBC. He violated their policy. If anyone violates the policies of their company then it is in the right of the company to let them go.

KO shouldn't worry too much, I'm sure Juan's seat at NPR is still warm. That station spreads hate as much as MSNBC does so he should fit in really well with them.
We also know what MSNBC's political stance is and - Backwards Typist

this is still a free country. At least I think so. I find it odd that they did this. Me thinks there might be something else up their sleeve. I'm sure it's not the first time KO donated to his political party in the past. Why this year?

Maybe this explains it better.... - sam

I think the issue is, one of the people he donated to was on his show the same day he donated the money. That is baddd form. I think THAT is why they chose to enforce the policy.

MSNBC host Keith Olbermann made campaign contributions to two Arizona members of Congress and failed Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway ahead of Tuesday’s election — a potential violation of NBC’s ethics policies.
Olbermann, who acknowledged the contributions in a statement to POLITICO, made the maximum legal donations of $2,400 apiece to Conway and to Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. He donated to the Arizona pair on Oct. 28 – the same day that Grijalva appeared as a guest on Olbermann’s “Countdown” show. Grijalva, a prominent liberal who was only declared a winner in his race Thursday night, was in a tight contest against tea party-backed candidate Ruth McClung when he appeared on Countdown – one of several appearances he made on the show.
NBC has a rule against employees contributing to political campaigns, and a wide range of news organizations prohibit political contributions – considering it a breach of journalistic independence to contribute to the candidates they cover.

Three years ago, MSNBC stated categorically that the rule applies to both the traditional NBC network and its opinion cable network:
NBC and MSNBC TV require permission of the president of NBC News. (MSNBC.com is a joint venture of NBC Universal and Microsoft.)
“Anyone working for NBC News who takes part in civic or other outside activities may find that these activities jeopardize his or her standing as an impartial journalist because they may create the appearance of a conflict of interest. Such activities may include participation in or contributions to political campaigns or groups that espouse controversial positions. You should report any such potential conflicts in advance to, and obtain prior approval of, the President of NBC News or his designee.”
That's what KO gets for so stridently shoving down our throats.... - sam

that he was a JOURNALIST and NOT a talk show host. And, you know, journalists are supposed to be impartial. We all know he is not impartial, but he knew the rules and he should not have given to the dems if he was not also willing to give to the pubs, therefore "appearing" impartial. I applaud MSNBC (and I thought those words would NEVER cross my lips) for having the guts to hold him accountable. Although now all they have is the tinglemeister himself to try to keep their sinking ship from sinking faster. Maybe they have someone ready to fill his seat that people actually want to watch so their ratings will go back UP. lol.

I still think something else if up. The news article stated he drew in 1 million viewers a night. From where, I don't know, but if he brought in that many viewers and they suspend him, something else is up.

All we can do is watch and see.
