One Reason I'm better off...

Posted: Sep 3, 2012

The rest of the world does not despise America with quite the intensity it did under the prior party's administration. That's important to me, because this is the world my children will grow up in.

There are a lot of reasons I'm better off than I was 4 years ago. That's one of them.

;

I'm out of debt - RC

[ In Reply To ..]
4 years ago, I was $11,700 in debt.

I don't know that it has anything to do with the president, but I'm %100 better off now than I was 4 years ago. My life has changed significantly.

Way to go! - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
No matter what other influences were involved, YOU were the driving force in that achievement!

Kudos to you!

good for you! I am about to lose my home to foreclosure - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
can't afford my monthly expenditures anymore, have to work three different jobs to even feed myself while all the while I know my tax dollars are going overseas to improve "THEIR" economy! Yeah...that's how I know I am better off over the past four years! truly now!

and I and hubby have had sparse pickins' for the past 4 years - backwards typist

[ In Reply To ..]
Lost my job 2 years ago, and he has worked a total of 18 days this year, yet he still pays his quarterly taxes.

He tightened his belt and stopped upgrading his equipment or else we wouldn't be able to pay our property taxes.

Yet we did great while Clinton was prez, and did okay with Bush. It was 2009 when the troubles started.

So in particular....sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
what policies of Obama's do you think started affecting you in 2009? and how?
Road construction stopped, for one. - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
The governor said the feds cut funding for roads so jobs that were contracted out were put on hold (was he lying?). They're still on hold...a little more active this year than the past 4 years but our state is still #50 for good roads and #1 for worse roads in the USA.

Our county's unemployment rate for the past 4 years has never gone below 8.3%. Of course, it WAS 12% so I guess I should jump for joy? Manufacturers that were hanging on finally gave up and closed their doors due to no orders.

You know how it works. The domino affect/effect (which word is it? LOL)

Troubles started way before 2009. Do you - really believe that? SM

[ In Reply To ..]
With all the information we now have about what went down with wall street during the Bush years, I cannot believe you really believe what you posted. Also significant to note is that Bush's budget did not include the cost of the wars, Obama's did, what a difference a few wars can have on what the deficit is.

changes for me too - ILMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I have 1 more thing to pay off and I'm clear too. I'm significantly better off than I was 4 years ago, heck even 1 year ago. With the cost of gas, food, and entertainment, I've learned to be creative and live within my means. I'm not eating a lot of meat anymore but I do eat it - just in proper portions, take out is a thing of the past unless I am splitting it with someone or someone is treating me - and we can usually think of other things to do with that money than eat it. I've learned to not be so generous with my money - family and friends still love me. Yes, agreed, I'm way better off physically, metally, emotionally, and spiritually.

I think we're all better off because...sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
because we are out of Iraq and in the process of getting out of Afgan. That constitutes a lot of folks who otherwise might not have had a chance to see this day.

Far worse off since Obama took over:: - with his Commie regime

[ In Reply To ..]
.

So you think we would be better off...sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
if we were still in two unfunded full scale wars? Would the folks fighting those wars be better off?
I'm a different poster, but you know, I am getting (sm) - Another poster
[ In Reply To ..]
so very sick of hearing this unfunded war malarkey. Our whole economy, the whole 5 trillion that Commie added to the debt is all unfunded. Don't you get it? We CAN'T PAY IT BACK. Raising the taxes for the top 2% will pay for 8 FRIGGING DAYS of our debt. Unfunded war, my arse.
Thank you::They NEVER seem to have a - problem with Obama touting

Afghanistan as the "good" war. Guess it's cause the Oh Holy One said.

Could you explain what you mean? It sounds - snide left as it is. NM

a Christofascist Taliban agenda on the country. Dems are all I got for now, which is sad, because I think some Pubs have good ideas, but sadly are now marginalized.

Better off - Gerri

[ In Reply To ..]
I cannot see that we are better off. Unemployment is greater, gas prices are higher, food costs more. The American dream of home ownership has almost gone down the tube. I'm not sure I agree with all the issues of either of the two parties. But when NAFTA was signed by Bill Clinton (a Dem), we lost a lot of our manufacturing jobs to China, MT started being outsourced, etc. You can blame that NAFTA trick on the Dems since Clinton signed it two months before he left office.

agree, agree, wholeheartedly agree!!!! - ANON

[ In Reply To ..]
I have been saying these words for years...and I don't think anybody understood the true meaning of what this policy had done to our country! It gave free rein to third world countries to take our jobs away one by one, supply us with inferior goods at higher prices, and laugh at us all the way to THEIR banks! The downfall of America happened right here! thanks Clinton...be it Bill or Hillary....(I heard it was her who promoted it), but the presidents since then have only further capitalized off of it! Thanks for bringing this up! Everybody else "skirts" around it!
Could you please elaborate?..sm - JTBB
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not getting the connection of NAFTA to third world countries, in particular India and Pakistan (or countries heavy in the MT industry).
NAFTA may have meant one thing BUT it was around that time - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
that companies started exporting jobs to India, Pakistan, the Phillipines, and China.

I have a feeling there was an amendment to NAFTA that made this possible, but I haven't been able to find anything yet (just doing a quick search). I do know that NAFTA was one of the reasons our county lost most of its manufacturing jobs to China.
I have also posted this several times::and the Dems - verbal abuse and vile comments knew
[ In Reply To ..]
no bounds. NAFTA was actually the "blueprint" for sending jobs overseas. Clinton then shored it up by giving companies and corporations MASSIVE tax breaks and incentives to send jobs overseas. One of the first enterprises began with overseas "customer call stations" being set up to test the incentives, tax breaks and profitability. It was crammed down your throat the "global economy" we all have to live in. Hillary (Obama in a skirt) was with Bill every step of the way pushing this agenda. Then, when running against Obama, Hillary claims she wanted nothing to do with NAFTA or the expansion of tax breaks/incentives for moving jobs overseas, and fought Bill on this issue. Nothing but a liar.
I don't agree with all of your post, but don't - lump all Dems together SM
[ In Reply To ..]
Many dems (myself included) know that NAFTA started the whole process with offshoring, and IMO this has a lot to do with the destruction of this economy. The middle class is the engine of this economy and untill good paying jobs are available again, it will not improve. Even if the job numbers improe in the future, it won't work if most people are close to minimum wage jobs. Obama has pushed a bill to fine those companies that offshore and give tax breaks to those who don't. He at least is trying to level the playing field, I give him that. The repubs wanted nothing to do with this idea. I believe the worst thing we could do would be to vote for Romney. All the ideas are Bush ideas as far as the economy is concerned, and it will hurt most of us.

NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) has...sm - VTMT

[ In Reply To ..]
NOTHING to do with China or India or anywhere else in the world except Canada, USA and Mexico.

NAFTA was spearheaded by HW Bush - along with Canadian PM and

[ In Reply To ..]
Mexican President, all of whom conducted a signing ceremony on Dec 17, 1992, two month BEFORE Clinton was sworn in for his first term. Ratification proceeded as follows: House approved NAFTA on November 17, 1993, 234-200, not exactly overwhelming support. Yays included 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats. Senate passage was 61-38, with 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats. Clinton signed it into law on December 8, 1993, less than a year after he took office.

Your last sentence has just been shot full of holes, along with the rest of your NAFTA info, which does not contain a single accurate statement.

PS: NAFTA = NORTH AMERICAN Free Trade Agreement.

I have to say that as long as offshoring continues, - we the people will suffer NM

Where Did All The Reason Go?Jun 20, 2015
America is killing itself through its embrace and exaltation of ignorance, and the evidence is all around us. Dylann Roof, the Charleston shooter who used race as a basis for hate and mass murder, is just the latest horrific example. Many will correctly blame Roof's actions on America's culture of racism and gun violence, but it's time to realize that such phenomena are directly tied to the nation's culture of ignorance. In a country where a sitting congressman told a cro ...

The Virginia House of Delegates, their version of the House of Representatives, passed a bill on Wednesday that bans companies from tracking their employees with implanted microchips. On the surface, the bill sounds libertarian, albeit in a far-sighted Blade Runner sort of way.
