Congressional Black Caucus member supports Oscars 'diversity' boycott http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/01/22/congressional-black-caucus-member-supports-oscars-diversity-boycott.html Are Asians, Hispanics and Arabs boycotting also?;

As if they weren't previously? - nm

Once again, the subject of racism was always - there-people just didn't hear it

I find a boycott by a bunch of self-important millionaires - see msg. - anon

whose egos have been bruised to be incredibly ridiculous. I mean honestly! I guess we should boycott the BET awards since it's not diverse? I truly can find better things to worry about, as I'm sure most of us can.

Racism exists at every level of society. The rich are not exempt. - oldtimer

All this BS racism crap is so infuriatingly stupid. - Seriously?

Waaa, waaa, waaaa. We are black and no one likes us. blah blah blah. Cry me a river. So, people with, I guess it would be called, a "lack of color" who produce and act in great movies are to be overlooked for persons of "color". Do persons of color not already have their own scholarships, colleges, TV networks, awards, etc. Please stop the whining. You're pathetic. God forbid whites should want special treatment. And that's not even the case here. The case is that the best quality product was produced by white folks, people voted and that's what was nominated. So shut up about it already. Do better and you will be rewarded. Do you really think the American people really want to see movies about Compton, the armpit of America? No, they don't. There's your reason for not being nominated. Simple. Garbage is garbage.

Just another way to achieve without actually doing anything. - anon

I am sick to death hearing about "white privilege" - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm white, was raised by parents who worked their asses off for what they could provide, which often wasn't much. Their parents were dirt poor yet worked hard for what they could. Their ancestors were immigrants from Germany/Ireland who not only worked hard but were often subject to discrimination. Did they cry and demand handouts? Nope, they worked, instilled ethics in their descendants, and lived as best they could. And don't give me any crap about better opportunities because I'm white. No one in my family received preferential treatment and one or two were passed over in favor of minorities. None of us had any type of handout, social program, affirmative action - we got by on our own merit. There is no white privilege. Slavery is a thing of the past - unless you consider MT, then that's race neutral. My Jewish friends don't cry and moan about Hitler because, guess what, it's in the past. Sure, racism exists, but crying about a stupid awards show won't change anything.

Well said! Thank you! - old mt

A college in Portland OR is going to have a month of - "white-shaming" activities.

I don't know what to think about this country anymore. I really don't.

In any event, I'm with you. "White privilege"?? I'm waiting to get me some of that, because I sure haven't had any so far. I've slung hash. I've hand-packed ice cream until my arms went numb. I've weeded and hoed the family garden because we either grew our own vegetables or we didn't have any. My dad sometimes got paid with produce or a chicken, and we didn't have our first new car until I was in high school. It was a Plymouth, and my dad drove it for 14 years. I paid every cent of my own college education.

Yeah, I can't wait for a whole heaping pile of that there "white privilege." Just drop it off on the front step if I'm out on my yacht.
I hear you - had relatively the same life. - anon

I also paid for my education unlike the BLM "activists" who are squandering theirs (paid for by social programs/affirmative action) by bullying other students because of their "white privilege."
I see you already got one of those drive-by "dislikes." - Should be disabled for this board.
[ In Reply To ..]
I've even seen "dislikes" for posts that had no controversial content. In any event, I consider them to be either cowardly or lazy...or both.
Guess it saves them from thinking. ;) - anon

Oscars Security: Looks Like The Hollywood Jerks Are Fine WithFeb 18, 2017
- at least, when it comes to themselves.  My eyes glazed over as I read about the complete disruption that the Oscars will be causing to implement security for these delicate flowers - and not just on Oscar night but days before.  Road closings, barriers, fences, heavy armed patrols, etc.  They're even shutting down subway stops and interrupting other public transportation 24 hours ahead of the event.  They themselves describe this as a "total lockdown" - which I find v ...

The Oscars Bored My Socks Off! I've Been Watching My Whole Life.Feb 23, 2015
I love movies and I've always loved watching the Oscars.  I've noticed with each passing year, the Oscars are less and less fun.  They take themselves way too seriously and even they seem like they are bored to tears.  I remember watching Bob Hope host when I was a kid and thought it looked like all the celebrities were having so much fun, lauging at themselves, each other, and Bob Hope.  And then Johnny Carson took over and then Billy Crystal and it seemed like one ...

It Gave Me Great Pleasure To Tune Out The Oscars Last NightFeb 27, 2017
Apparently it was a pig's breakfast.  I can't imagine why anyone gives a rip about Hollywood in any shape, form or fashion.  I have a neighbor who lives in a fantasy world, writes letters to George Clooney, movie magazines everywhere you look, etc.  I don't get it.  I mean they're people who dress up and pretend to be someone else, and for some reason believe that their half-baked political and social opinions are just terribly insightful and compelling, ...

I Guess This Is Political, If Not, SorryNov 10, 2009
So, I'm a conservative pretty much to the core.  Not as far right as Rush, definitely nowhere near Michael Savage, more kinda like Sean Hannity.  This whole thing about the DC Sniper being put to death tonight kinda has me bugged.  The death penalty is supposed to be a conservative belief.  I realize he killed 10 people in cold blood but who are we to play God and take his life too?  I do understand the Bible saying "an eye for an eye". BP Oil Spill Becoming PoliticalMay 26, 2010
I never saw James Carville so furious and I don't blame him. This is oil spill is absolutely unforgiveable. The marshlands are being destroyed and probably the whole fishing industry for a few years, if not more than decades. I was reading other reports yesterday and I always read the poster's comments. Some say stop depending on oil and depend on nuclear, solar, and wind. That's easier said than done. Solar and wind are expensive and not a guarantee for northern climates. N ...

Political Mob Got To Lester HoltSep 27, 2016
Well I think the political mob has threatened Lester Holt in some way. Honestly I am not being paranoid but the way things in DC have played out when clearly Hillary and a lot of her cronies should be in jail makes this feasible. Until someone comes forth and tells that they have been threatened then it will continue. However, if they are threatening families of these people then I can see why they are hesitant to come forth. Honestly, I am sick of how our country is turning out just ...
