Not just talking points

Posted: Jul 8, 2017

Every time a progressive on this board mentions what this disgusting administration is doing the right-wingers label everything liberal talking points.  There is no doubt that Trump et al are trying their best to remove as many regulations as possible that protect our food and the environment.  Scott Pruitt recently tried to loosen methane regulations and thankfully the courts told him he did not have the authority to do it.  They have already loosened food inspections which were not that great to begin with.  So if you or your family get sick from a food-borne illness or all the fish in a river you may fish in die from the pollution or your children start wheezing from the polluted air, I wonder if you will still say they are liberal talking points.

I told my teenage son that we needed to support the new president and give him time to show us what he could do. I lasted about a month or maybe 6 weeks before I could see that it was not going to be pretty for us. A little over 3-1/2 years and counting at this point.

It appears you continue to look at only one side of things. Every post you make is in the same vein. It appears you are one-dimensional and completely closed as to the reasons for such decisions.

To predict your next post (and pardon me if I am wrong here), find the reasons for said decisions on your own.

Pretty much the way the whole industry is conducted and the reason there are people still clinging to these slave masters for slave wages.

This board has a completely nonsensical logic of discourse on most subjects.

As to "non-independent thinker"...lol...I have never seen so many as I do here. Sheep herded to slaughter on a daily basis...and they don't even smell the blood.

WILL THIS GET ME BANNED? Should I change my moniker? Should I quit wasting my time...that is the real question. This part of MT Stars surely is "special."

must be from non-related sources.

Even with the rules in place now, according to the CDC, they estimate that food-borne illnesses sicken 48 million Americans annually, leading to 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.

Some experts say the problem with the current regulations is not necessarily that there are too many of them — but that there are some that simply are unnecessary.

“As presidents from Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama have recognized, the real question is whether regulations, whether new or old, are justified,” Harvard Law School professor Cass Sunstein, who served as regulations czar for more than three years in the Obama White House, said in an essay for Bloomberg News published in late November.

Some regulations are actually deregulations, which reduce existing burdens, he said. Others implement spending programs, or are technical amendments, sometimes correcting errors.

Philip Wallach is a political scientist at the more liberal-leaning Brookings Institution. He says lawmakers are introducing bills such as "the SCRUB Act, which would create a commission specifically designed to find old regulations that are not worth their cost and get them revised or deleted."

Wallach thinks there could be some meaningful culling of regulations. He says some of that could be a good thing — to get rid of pointless red tape where it exists, if it's truly pointless.

This is what I think Trump meant by getting rid of some regulations that are no longer useful or necessary. Scare tactics is what the media does every day. I'm surprised so many people haven't caught onto that ruse yet.

BTW, the SCRUB Act passed the House back in 2016 and has been in Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affair ever since (and it has nothing to do with food). Odd, isn't it?

Still just talking points - The accuser sm

I'm the one who called you out on the post below about just posting talking points. There was more to it than what you posted here. If anyone is curious go take a look:

http://general.mtstars.com/471671.html

I would like to clarify that I'm not a right-winger and I do look at things objectively. I replied to your lament that you don't know what Trump "has to do before his die-hard supporters realize what a con-artist he is and how unfit he is to hold office" by saying you weren't in any way convincing, logical, or reasonable in your posts.

You're still maintaining that status, IMO. You assume people will get sick and the environment will suffer because Trump undid Obama's executive orders that supposedly protect our food and environment. Let's reason on that for a minute. If the environment and food didn't make me or my family sick during the Carter, Reagan, Bush1, Clinton, or Bush2 administrations (when there was no Obama executive order protecting me) why would I expect to get sick now that there's, again, no Obama EO protecting me?

Did you or anyone in your family get sick in any previous administration due to anything covered in an Obama EO?

I read one of Obama's EOs on river pollution, which someone here was upset that Trump had undone. The text of the EO made it clear that Obama wasn't trying to protect the environment, he was trying to take down the coal industry. The EO in question had a regulation that you couldn't put anything in a river that wasn't naturally occurring. The resulting impact, as stated in the EO, increase the cost of coal mining and reduce the number of coal mines in the US.

The EO blocked adding *anything* to a river. Not even something that wouldn't harm wildlife and wouldn't have any impact on the environment. The entire purpose was to punish an industry Obama personally disagreed with.

Let's look at the enriching the 1% angle that people like to use. Are coal miners part of the 1%? Would losing their jobs help or hurt them and their families?

Next, let's look at why Obama had to unilaterally pass so many EOs and regulations with "his pen and his phone," rather than go through Congress to make it a law. His policies couldn't get the votes, not even Democrats would support him. EOs were his only way to enact his agenda.

Obama used executive orders to enact his personal agenda. Fine. That's his right as president, some on the right might have disagreed with that, I didn't. Here's your problem. Trump is the president now and now it's his right to pass EOs, based on his personal agenda. He's undoing what Obama did. I'm fine with that. If Trump takes it too far maybe he'll lose 1000+ state and federal seats too. Or maybe he'll do something good for the country and democrats will continue to lose seats. Who knows?

Talking PointsJul 09, 2017
The original thread is so far down the board I am going to start a new one.   I find it amusing that the right-wingers keep saying liberals are just regurgitating progressive talking points as opposed to conservatives who post only original thoughts.  We are all influenced by things we have seen and read and no one here is original. As for the coal industry, I am very sorry for the coal workers; they have been abused by the owners for a very long time but the sad fact is that there i ...

I am not telling you to watch, nor do I need anyone to fill this board with comments on Bill O. That's not the point of this message, so if you can't stand him, that's fine. Just don't g ...

Last Update: June 12, 2014 575 US troops died in Afghanistan during the Bush presidency. By August 18, 2010, following two troop surges initiated by President Obama, that number had doubled. Today, over 1500 US troops have died in Afghanistan since President Obama took office—and yet, little in that war-torn country has changed. These numbers should give us pause. While the Administration has publicly conceded that there is no military solution in Afghanistan, and claimed that it support ...
