are on track to outpace almost all others, both short- and long-term. Those thoroughly analyzed and well documented trends do not compensate for poor upper-level management in individual cases where lay-offs occur, especially where focus on "industry" stockholder portfolios eclipses the quality patient "health care" side of that equation.

Is your hospital one of those in danger of failing - altogether or in a shrinking community? nm

since in that scenario the hospital is but a cog in a wheel being driven by the failure of a local economy to thrive, or at least maintain a level of stability where providing health care is possible. Is that happening where you live? If so, where and why do you think that is happening?

Am not going to give name of medical center, but it not as anyone of you described and tried to ascertain as a reason for layoffs. This is a major teaching facility and CEO is aligning for the impact of the future of healthcare in order that the organization remain strong and healthy, as we are a major care provider.

And as far as patient care goes, no reduction in nurse-to-patient ratio.

And one of the small cogs...., I say not, over 9000 employees.

It is just incredible how some on this board, as well as others, just cannot see through those glasses. There are big impacts coming to our economy and Obamacare is a driving force. There will less reimbursement for care, less services offered, organizations have to prepare in order to survive.

My sympathy, empathy and yes prayers go out to all of those that will be affected and I ask the same as I live week to week to find out if I will be one of those 475.

My question is if I am getting minimum wage now with "makeup pay," will I be entitled to my city's minimum? I don't feel comfortable asking "them" this question!
