Mitch McConnell's office bugged?

Posted: Apr 9, 2013

There was a private meeting  in his office in KY but it was recorded and Mother Jones publicized the tapes. Somebody may be in BIG TROUBLE over this. It's illegal to tape someone without their knowledge in KY. He also stated that they attacked his wife's ethnicity last week.

Of course, if it was done by the other side, they'll probably get a slap on the wrist if anything.

**********

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s reelection campaign asked the FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office on Tuesday to investigate how Mother Jones magazine obtained a recording of a February strategy session.

“Senator McConnell’s campaign is working with the FBI and has notified the local U.S. Attorney in Louisville, per FBI request, about these recordings,” McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton said in a statement. “Obviously a recording device of some kind was placed in Senator McConnell’s campaign office without consent. By whom and how that was accomplished presumably will be the subject of a criminal investigation.”

Added a source close to the campaign: “We’re going on the assumption that a crime has been committed. No one at the meeting leaked this.”

The McConnell campaign has not offered any direct evidence the recording was the result of an illegal bug.

On Tuesday morning, Mother Jones, a liberal magazine, published an audio recording of McConnell staffers discussing opposition research they could use against actress Ashley Judd, who was considering running against veteran senator in the 2014 Senate race. Judd announced last week that she would not make the race.

The magazine reported that in the Feb. 2 recording, McConnell and his aides were heard considering attacking Judd for “past struggles with depression and for her religious views.”

Who cares?

Okay, guess you don't care laws were broken - Truthhurts

I care. Breaking the law seems to be common place these days for politicians and their groupies. No slap on the wrist should be given to whoever did this and I don't care if it was someone in his group or if it was an outside party who did this. It is ILLEGAL.

It's bad enough that his wife was subjected to racial slurs, yet that was okay because Mitch is a Republican and not a progressive liberal Democrat. Yet, don't bring family into it if it's the opposing party.

Okay - shrug

No, actually, I don't care about Mitch McConnell. In a soft poll he's only four points ahead of the Dem who is running against him so we'll see who owns Mitch McConnell.
---and who's running against him? I was under the impression - Truthhurts

no one was picked yet to run against him.
running against him - shrug

Suffice it to say, it's not Ashley Judd.

ILLEGAL taping of a private conversation and using ethnic slurs against his wife. It's not acceptable.

I'm not saying it's right, but I've gotten to the point I don't care. If our politicians were decent human beings, I'd say this was terrible. But nowadays I want to know everything they do, everything they say. Besides, the government can spy on us without asking permission and turnabout is fair play. Democrat or Republican, they are corrupt, scheming weasels and they've lost their privacy rights. I would say I don't really approve of it, i.e. I wouldn't do it myself, but I'm not going to lose sleep on it. Be it the Romney tape or this or anything. In a system this corrupt, I don't even see it as spying. It's whistle-blowing. Everything is strategy to them. There's no feeling to it. Like when Romney complained that his 47% remarks were made in private. He's upset that we found out he's a bad guy in private with his wealthy pals. On one hand, I get why they feel violated about their privacy. But they violated our trust.

As for Mitch's wife being subjected to racial slurs, I didn't hear about that. In fact, I didn't know he was married. That is plain terrible. I don't care what side of the aisle it's on, insulting anyone's family member is completely wrong even if it's not so terrible as racial slurs. The insults Obama's wife and children get are disgusting. Like back during the election when Harry Reid said all that about Romney's late father not being proud of him. That really infuriated me. Just because I don't like Romney in the least doesn't condone that. Being a liberal, and Reid being a Democrat, that means we're on the same side and nothing infuriates me more than when its one of ours who says things like that.

Wow, I just looked up his wife. The Bush cabinet! Never even knew about her! She must have done a good job, else she'd be famous (at least that's usually how it goes.)

as outraged about the contents of the tape? Discussing someone's mental health and religion as something to use against a possible political opponent is really kinda tacky, don't you think?
No, I'm not outraged over the contents. Why? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
Because it was public info. Ashley, herself, wrote about her mental health in her book. If it wasn't public, it would be a different story....and really, would you want someone with mental health problems responsible for governing? It would be too stressful, I'm sure. Look at Jesse Jackson, Jr.

of Americans struggle with depression or anxiety or another mental health problem at some point in their lives. I have no clue if Ashley Judd would be a good leader, but if we limit the field to only people who have always been happy, we ran out of people a long time ago. I understand the concern, but as long as the mental health issue isn't one of delusion, hallucination or violence, I'm fine with them serving in office. If they do break down, they can quit. Any of our current people who seem stable could suffer a nervous breakdown at any time. The human mind is quite fragile.

the racial slur to which you are referring was a tweet "linked to the website of conspiracy theorist and radio host Jeff Rense, who claims that Chao's tenure as labor secretary was marked by racism against American workers."

Despite Ms. Chao's assertion that these remarks were perpetrated by the left, it's just not the case.

Progress Kentucky (the left wing website where the tweet appeared) has issued a formal apology and removed the tweet.

is getting ridiculous.  For all of you who think Trump is the only one who knows what he is doing, you are so wrong.  His constant badgering of anybody and everybody is why things are not getting done.  Many of his supporters think his bullying is "showing them" that he is anti-establishment and going to get things done like never before.  I am not a fan of republican policies but if Trump wants to be a republican, then he should be supporting them, not bullying them.  H ...

On Another Note, Biden And McConnell's Plan Dec 31, 2012
This was before Obama's speech. BTW, according to Sen. Corker, Obama wants to pay for the sequester cuts (and have them taken out of this new legislation) with the tax increase revenue and not reduce spending cuts already agreed to and not the deficit. Again, Obama doesn't know how to add or subtract. Taking in $80 billion and spending $60 billion does not give $80 billion towards spending reduction on the debt. This story has been updated. Vice President Biden and Senate Minor ...

McConnell: May I Have A Plausible Explanation From Those In Transcription?Nov 06, 2014
As I mentioned yesterday (and from what I have read from others since my last visit), I, too, have become an independent because of the nonsense I have seen from both parties. That in no way means that I am for the abolition of parties, because I do believe one party often reins in the other, when the other goes "whack :) In fact, I believe we may need MORE parties for those of us who don't agree with the whole kit and caboodle of a single party. However, I think the problem today ...
