Chinese netizens welcome Obama's visit with thousands of questions

BEIJING, Nov.13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese netizens have prepared thousands of questions for US President Barack Obama during his Nov. 15-18 visit to China, covering a wide range of topics from Sino-U.S. relations to U.S. first lady Michelle Obama.

A special forum of collecting questions from Chinese netizens to ask Obama was opened Friday morning by Xinhuanet, the online news service of Xinhua News Agency.

Obama is scheduled to have an exchange activity with Chinese youth on Nov. 16 in Shanghai, during which he will pick up some of the netizens' questions to answer, according to Xinhuanet authorities.

"Why does U.S. always ask for appreciation of the Renminbi?" one netizen asked.

Chinese netizens showed their concerns over Sino-U.S. relations by asking hundreds of relative and serious questions, such as "how Obama thinks of Sino-US cooperation in combating global financial crisis; why U.S. keeps imposing high import duties on some products from China; will you sell weapons to Taiwan?"

Chinese netizens seemed quite interested in Obama's personal and family life, raising questions such as how Obama keeps fit and whether Obama allows his children to play games.

"Do you have a Facebook account? May I add you as a friend?" a netizen asked.

Mrs Obama was also targeted. One netizen called "Women love perfection" said, "The first lady has so many beautiful clothes, including those she wore during the president's inauguration ceremony and visits to foreign countries. Are they paid by the U.S. government or by yourself?"

Whether Obama likes the well-known Chinese dish Kung Pao Chicken and whether he can use chopsticks are also on the question list.

"How much wine can you drink for once? Will you play the Truth or Dare game after drinking?" another netizen asked.

More than 2,000 questions have been raised by Chinese netizens in the first 13 opening hours of the forum. It would be closed on Saturday noon.

Answer to question is the Obamas pay - for their own clothing

It appears someone took this question that was asked and ran with it as if it were a statement of fact.

Can you show where you got your information - Because I remember...

People were up in arms when Bush's did it, when Clinton's did it, etc. etc.

I have not been able to find whether they do or do not spend their own money on clothes, gifts, etc. Two I specifically remember people up in arms about was Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton.

I do hope they spend their own money, but I highly doubt they do. But again i cannot find out from a reliable source either way.

She said so - NJ

Yah yah, I know some will say ALL LIBS/DEMS LIE INCLUDING MICHELLE but here's a link to Michelle's recent appearance on the Leno show. She shops JCrew ;) She also likes to give a chance to relatively unknown designers, like for her inaugural ball gown.

Well that would be nice if - Because I remember....

we could trust them. Again, I am in no way whatsoever saying I don't believe it. All I do know is they've lied to us about everything they do. We do pay for their "date nights", their trips around the world staying in luxurious hotels. I think I do remember Hillary, Nancy Reagan and a couple other first ladies using our money to buy their clothes. Again I'm not saying I think she does, but I'm also saying I don't know if she doesn't. I'd like to see something from an un-biased site with some facts. Certainly not coming from Barack or Michelle. As they say... you don't trust them as far as you can throw them.
If it were true then it would be all over the - news and internet
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you honestly think that juicy tidbit would be overlooked? Don't you think critics would have been all over that? There are people checking on everything she says. You should be able to take the fact that it's not in the news as proof.
Okay, I do see you're point - Because I remember.....
[ In Reply To ..]
and I do believe you are correct on this one. Yes I do believe it would be all over the internet, and only a couple news stations (the liberal news stations would never report it). Plus look at how they crucified Gov. Palin about the clothing issue. All I say is I truly do hope Michelle and Obama pay for their own clothing (and their kids). They can afford it, we cannot. Never believed either way, just hoping they pay themselves.

My memories are different - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
I really don't remember people dissing Nancy and Hillary for wasting taxpayer money on clothing. Old news, I know, and hard to find a link to now.

I do remember some waves when Laura Bush ordered a second set of china, but that was funded by private sources. And I remember Barbara Bush in jeans and pearls, which I thought was kinda cool.

No memories of clothing brouhahas except Palin *shrug*

NJ
Well I wouldn't expect you to remember that - Because I remember...
[ In Reply To ..]
What I mean by that is that I know where you are coming from. Your a liberal and would never admit even if you did know that a republican was scrutinized for spending taxpayers money on clothing. That's just the way it is because of the diversion of the two parties. But I do remember both a republican and democrat first ladies getting scrutinized for what they spent taxpayer money on for themselves. Like I say I hope it's not true. No first lady should be spending our tax money on clothing for themselves (or the president for that matter). We (the people of the US), just cannot afford it (we need to clothe ourselves). So I hope its not true about Michelle. I don't think it is as one poster said it would be all over the internet/news (except for the liberal news media).

Yeah, it was unfortunate about what they did to Gov. Palin, but guess that goes on during campaigns all the time. First time I've seen them force clothing she didn't want to wear on her all for the "image". But campaigns are campaigns and nothing surprises me anymore.

As for jeans and pearls (cool, yeah), but as for this crapola about Michelle receiving critism for wearing sleeveless this or that, jeez I think every time I see that. I do think it's appropirate to wear certain clothing at certain times (like not showing up to a funeral or somber event dressed it bright and "cheery" colors).

Anyway..., I do remember the stuff both Hillary and Nancy did that people were in uproars about.
No, that's not the way it is - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
You say "That's just the way it is because of the diversion [division?] of the two parties." Not true. There are people on both sides who don't think the other side can do no right. I'm afraid that if you don't know that, you are one of the ones who blindly follows along without thought, without looking, without much of anything.

Then again, this is another nonissue. Not even a drop in the bucket. If you have to wonder about miniscule things like this, the Obamas must be doing a terrific job ^^

For Michelle Obama, 2014 Has Been A Year Of Racial StirringDec 29, 2014
If you were inclined to sympathize with Michelle Obama and conclude that her recent comments on racist behavior in Target were misconstrued, you’d be wise to consider the First Lady’s history. Michelle Obama’s complete u-turn when describing an interaction with a white lady asking for her help reaching groceries is not the first time she has used her status to misguidedly cry racism. Indeed, in May, the Inquisitr reported how Obama urged high school students to monitor their family and ...

What are your thoughts on Michelle inviting Common to the White House? I don't know the guy and know nothing about rappers, but from what I'm hearing, this is causing a big stink. I can't figure out why she would invite such a controversial person. If Obama blocks the budget to help the illegals, large sections of the federal government would shut down on Dec. 12. But Earnest equivocated wh ...

Undocumented Immigrants Paid $11.2 Billion In Taxes While GE Paid NothingJul 04, 2011
This past month, there was much outrage over the fact that General Electric, despite making $14.2 billion in profits, paid zero U.S. taxes in 2010. General Electric actually received tax credits of $3.2 billion from American taxpayers. At the same time that General Electric was not paying taxes, many undocumented immigrants, who are typically accused of taking advantage of the system while not contributing to it by many on the right, paid $11.2 billion in taxes. A new study by the I ...
