MTs who work full time and still live in poverty...
Posted: Feb 25, 2015
I was hoping to get everyone's thoughts (no matter what party you support) regarding this issue. So many of us MTs have worked (and may continue to still be working) full time and made very little money. I don't know if we could even consider ourselves middle class on the poverty wages we MTs have earned for many, many years. I listened to U.S. Senator Elizabeth's Warren's message about helping the middle class. Would any of you please weigh in with your opinions about what could be or should be done to help us even get back to middle class. Thank you in advance! (Please be respectful and courteous of each other, if you don't mind.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8Czg5-pkIo ;

people she talks about who worked (more than) full-time, and still lived in poverty.
Our country has slid such a long way into this rut that I think it will take a long time and a lot of political upheaval to climb out of it. Still, I think it has to be done somehow, if the middle class is to prevent itself from being eradicated entirely.
I was hoping she would run for President - not any more

I used to think she was for the middle class until the dog and pony show about politicians working for the bankers. Where is that speech now Ms. Warren? Kind of dropped it and now it's like you never gave it. Too busy with the selfie's I guess.
Now we are to believe she actually cares about the middle class. I'll believe that once she actually does something for the middle class. So far nada! Not one thing. Just all talk to make people believe she cares. Just like the rest of the democrats. In fact the rest of all of them. I don't limit it to just democrats. They don't care because they are rich and they have everything, so why should they care. It's just more obvious with the democrats, although republicans too.
Here's my thing - if they are interested in doing something then do it and show us you care (any of them). Until that happens I don't believe any of them and they should shut their pie holes - all of them.

Until they stop fighting for the big corporations and wall street that lined their pockets and start fighting for the people that put them in office this government is going to continue to do business as usual. They claim to be creating jobs yet where are they and oh they forgot to mention they are minimum wage jobs that we can't survive on. They claim the recession is behind us, but what they really mean is its behind the 1%. The rest of us, well we only matter when we need to vote.
I just posted about who much we had to pay in taxes but yet you have General Electric who made over 100 billion dollars and did not pay a dollar in taxes.
Until we get rid of the lobbyists and until they stop accepting campaign donations from these corporations, who then they owe eternal favors to, they wlll never fight for us. The only time they need us is to vote for them and then they drop us on our heads for the next 4 years.
Every single person in this country that is feeling pinched should not vote in the next election. I have never heard so many people be so disgruntled about this government as in the last few years. Both republicans and democrats have made a mockery of our government and is now the laughing stock of the world. You have Obamanuts in office who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag and stands for nothing, is the weakest president in history, and then you have the senate and congress who only know how to grandstand. Did you really think they would defund the DHS. Just more grandstanding.
Don't believe a word any of them say. They say what you want to hear to be elected and then they write their own agenda from there and they forget what they promised. I would rather deal with the mob thank you very much.

Yes, let's all take a collective stand by staying home and forfeiting our right to choose our representatives. We can change the system by sitting on our posterior ends and doing absolutely nothing. That will teach them!

But, hey, believe me and stay home. LOL.
Everyone's got a political agenda these days, even if people fail to recognize it for what it actually is. Far too many people sacrificed far too much, including their lives, and I for one will not diminish their efforts by forfeiting the very rights they gave everything to protect on my behalf.

I have written to my Congresswoman in depth about this issue a couple of days ago. I know the Labor Dept. could care less about our concerns. I am waiting to hear back from her.
That is the best I have read! - sm

That is exactly what we all need to do! We need to keep doing it. We need to make our voices heard. I was looking at my representatives Facebook page and they will be having an open meeting near here soon. I plan to go and talk to him face-to-face.
Letters, phone calls, meetings, just keep doing it!

I think everyone on computers should do a big campaign for Oprah for president. Everyone should go to the poles and write in the candidate The only way it is going to change if it is a collective of the american people and we all write in the same name so we can elect our president. Use facebook, e-mail, anyway we can get out the word.
now that is pretty darn smart - nana7

That is pretty smart thinking there. I just wonder can you just write her name in without her running for president? Either way I am in.

Isaw a bumper sticker with Winfrey and Degeneres for Prez and VP. So work is already circulating. I think if she was written in and did not want it, maybe she could appoint someone she wanted.

Anyone who is not a career politician has my vote. What a slap in the face that would be to every politician out there.
I like both of them, but I don't think they are - capable of running the county.

That is not how our system works. Didn't you take a civics course in school?
You need more to be presidential material - than just bumper stickers.

This is fun sarcasm. In reality, I don't think she really has the smarts to actually run the country. She is a neat lady, a good business person, but I don't think she is up to running the country.

Half Of America In Poverty?Jan 02, 2012Recent reports suggest that almost 50% of Americans are in poverty or at a "low income" level. The claim is based on a new supplemental measure by the Census Bureau that includes health care, transportation, and other essential living expenses in the poverty calculation. The concept of "low income" is controversial. It has been defined as earnings between 100 and 199 percent of the poverty level, a claim which, if true, would place every American family making $50,000 or less at a near-poverty le ...
