$22 Trillion spent in 50-year "war on poverty" since Johnson.

Posted: Apr 28, 2015

Drive through the slums of any major city in America, and it isn't very likely that you'll be looking at communities where the electorate is predominantly conservative, nor will these likely be found in districts that elect conservatives to office.

You'll be looking at minority districts that have been failed NOT by conservative principles, but by years and decades of failed liberal policies and incompetent liberal political bosses.

Then, look at the school districts in poorer communities and just see where the money goes - and I mean BIG, BIG money.  $Millions in educational funds are siphoned off, misspent, wasted EVERY SINGLE YEAR, which is money that will never see the inside of a classroom, never improve these schools, and meanwhile chaos reigns on the schoolgrounds in these districts.

I can attest personally to the tremendous imbalance of police and other criminal justice resources that must be devoted to a portion of the population which is much smaller in number than in other communities, just to try to maintain some semblance of order.  And we have people coming on here saying "the police are cowards."  Shame on you, whoever you are.   The police who work in these communities are ANYTHING but cowards, and I'd love to see you pin on the badge and walk those streets at 1 a.m.

I'm sick of the pathetic excuses.  I'm sick of the parasites who make their living and feed off of lies that they tell their constituencies, and who excuse the criminal behavior, rotten parenting and overall lack of responsibility that we see in these communities.

Sick to death of it, and the worst part of it is, the graft, the corruption, the excuses, the exploitation - AT THE HANDS OF MINORITY COMMUNITY "LEADERS" - is not doing the people in these communities one speck of good either.

The question is, when will we learn?  If 50 years of experience and $trillions of dollars spent teach us nothing about the impotence of the liberal approach to poverty, just what WILL it take for us to finally GET IT?

Here's the plain and simple truth, and it isn't rocket science.  People run around in the streets screaming about a "lack of opportunity", while they burn down the resources in their own community.  They gripe about a "lack of investment" while they tear down the existing investment.

It isn't a lack of opportunity.  It isn't a lack of investment.  There's been a river of both of these flowing through these communities.

Not lack of opportunity, and not a lack of investment.  Not a lack of programs.  Not a lack of interest.  THE FAILURE HAS BEEN CORRUPT LIBERAL POLITICIANS, THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FAMILY, AND A LACK OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

It's really quite that simple.  And we can spend $22 trillion more, or $50 trillion, or $100 trillion, and it WILL NOT SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS.

I read today that Baltimore is 60% African-American, - and the police department is

run by African-Americans. They have only been two white mayors in Baltimore in decades, and both of them were related to Nancy Pelosi, brothers, last name D'Alessandro.

Blaming everyone but those actually responsible - is a basis tenent of

Detroit, Philly, St. Louis, same thing. Since 1967 - or close to 50 yrs, Baltimore

Maryland has been governed exclusively by Democratic mayors and city councils.
For 28 years, or since 1987, Democrats have controlled both of Maryland's seats in the U.S. Senate. Democrats currently compose 9 of Maryland's 10-member Congressional delegation.

In his televised comments Obama intimated that you and I are to blame when he said we, "need to do some soul searching." Really?

Democrats keep people oppressed. - Former Motown Democrat

Most riots have occurred in cities run by Democrats. Instead of being helped with a leg up, a lot of the inner city residents are helped with handouts and the handouts NEVER stop. They become a way of life. Instead of giving a man a fish, teach him HOW to fish!
Compassion today is measured by how much money - is given, not the results of action,
[ In Reply To ..]
so you can say you care and propose giving money for the problem even though the consequences don't matter.
Motown has no money left to "teach people to fish" and there are no fishing holes left? - ???
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm really surprised someone from Motown/Detroit would ever say such a thing, Republican or Democrat. Because regardless of who they would blame for the city's ruin, true Detroiters know not only is there no money left to train anyone to do anything, but even if they did "teach them to fish," there are no jobs left for them to do after training and no new business coming in after the auto industry left.

Many blame greedy and corrupt unions for the auto company decisions to outsource in Detroit, but regardless of who you blame, it's not the fault of the every day worker that the city (and most of the state) was almost entirely dependent upon the auto industry and went bankrupt when decisions were made to move factories to Mexico and Chinese labor rather than deal with unions anymore.

The "fishing" analogy cannot be cavalierly applied to every situation in life, only in situations where people have a choice; Detroit doesn't anymore.

And so many Detroiters ARE trained, but have now been chronically unemployed so long they can't afford to move away, they're just using whatever money is left for basic survival.

If Detroit was a lesson, it was lesson in not to become too dependent on one industry, avoid greed and corruption whether you're an exec or a union member, Republican or Democrat, and learn to compromise - that is if you don't wish to undermine not just your own city's survival, but your own.

I beg to differ. - Former Motown Democrat
[ In Reply To ..]
Based on my knowledge of the city going back many, many moons, my opinion is completely different than yours. I stand by my statements.
Well, I thought we'd agree on the greedy union part at least. - ???
[ In Reply To ..]
If you disagree and are from Detroit, that's cool, but I'd be interested in what you disagreed with, as well as your thoughts on what caved that city in and why. Because one thing I do agree with you on is if we don't correctly understand what happened in Detroit, we may repeat it elsewhere in the other cities you mentioned.

It's just I think blaming only government assistance for Detroit's problems is oversimplying their problems, Detroit's problems were multifactorial, and corruption existed on all sides by those in charge, from unions to auto execs to those in politics regardless of party. Consider Rick Snyder's discovered "NERD" slush fund to pay trusted advisors in 2013 AFTER the city had declared bankruptcy

Absolute power corrupts absolutely and that's not exclusive to Democrats, I'm afraid.

Did somebody listen to Rush Limbaugh - sm

Or some other right-wing media propaganda fear-and-smear commentary and swallowed it all hook, line, and sinker?

In the 60's, Omaha had some of the worst race riots in America. Do you really think Omaha, Nebraska, was governed entirely by Democrats?

A good start to the problem would be turning off the right-wing propaganda media machine that is not content to blame President Obama for race riots, no, because we reserve blaming Obama for everyday "normal" problems while special events like Baltimore call for the broad-brush blaming of the entire party of Democrats for the last half century, as if they alone are responsible for everything because..... because reasons!

You said: "I'm sick of the pathetic excuses. I'm sick of the parasites who make their living and feed off of lies that they tell their constituencies...."

Amen to that!

I guess we as conservatives have all seen this movie.

The teachers searching "I Hate Obama" websites while students look on, the constant drivel about Kenya and birth certificates, the general fear mongering about the "black" president and disrespect for the sitting President----then I moved him out of Christian school....things have been much better. (This isn't a joke)

That's not to say there aren't people with differing opinions in public school, it just isn't quite as sanctimonious and backed by eternal damnation if you don't agree.

Half Of America In Poverty?Jan 02, 2012
Recent reports suggest that almost 50% of Americans are in poverty or at a "low income" level. The claim is based on a new supplemental measure by the Census Bureau that includes health care, transportation, and other essential living expenses in the poverty calculation. The concept of "low income" is controversial. It has been defined as earnings between 100 and 199 percent of the poverty level, a claim which, if true, would place every American family making $50,000 or less at a near-poverty le ...
