Why should this even happen in the first place? You hear about this kind of thing everyday, somewhere. As Americans we should be able to fly our flag whenever we want to - there shouldn't have to be a "backlash." Just one form of tyranny.

This happens every day to those of us who live in a community with an overzealous HOA/property manager. This is hardly a political topic.

My HOA (whose board members I've butted heads with on many occasions) pull stunts like this all the time. They tried to tell me that I had too many flowers on my back patio at one point and that my dog was too large (no weight/height/breed restrictions in bylaws) at another. These are miserable nitpicky people who have too much time on their hands and love to spread their misery as a hobby and control their neighbors.

Tryannical? Maybe. But hardly political.

My sister once lived in Citrus Heights. You know, HOA- - controlled subdivisions are particularly popular

with social conservatives, who like the rules and controls, and not just for protecting property values. An appreciation for conformity (because it tends to strengthen a community identity) is one of the 3 main personality characteristics of conservatives.

This is one big reason why TP'rs think it's so important to impose their own way of thinking on a nation of hundreds of thousands of "communities." They can't imagine that a nation could be healthy and cohesive through acceptance of "different strokes."

The other biggie, of course, is that they tend not to like people with different ways, or who are just part of a smaller group (remember that study?), feel they're inferior troublemakers, and feel a need to do something about them. BUT, in controlled subdivisions, that problem can hopefully be mostly "outside," not at home.

And, yes, this is political. The same political issues exist and play out on micro as well as macro levels, and everywhere in between. Just look at the politicking that goes on in those associations.

If the town or the state of Florida told this woman she could not fly her flag on her individual property, I would agree with tyranny. However, this is not the case.

There are all kinds of arbitrary rules and regulations one has to abide by when one lives in a housing association or condo complex, for example.

I used to live in a condo that did not permit bird feeders. I did not interpret this rule to be a war against birds.

Uh...that's an HOA issue. They asked her - to move it to a different spot.

It's not like she's not allowed to fly the flag at all--they told her the spot didnt' comply. It's not really a political issue, and it's actually funny it even made the news...
