Immigration Reform — Not Amnesty

Posted: Nov 12, 2014

"We have all heard it said many times that America is a land of immigrants, some voluntary and some involuntary, but immigrants nevertheless.

We have plenty of space in our country, but insufficient resources to support everyone who wants to come here. When we see innocent children used as political pawns, it still tugs at our heartstrings, which is the desired intent. The real question is, What are we going to do about it?

Immigration reform has been a very tough issue, as well as a political football, and it has produced governmental stalemates and no useful solutions for decades. President Obama's decision to act unilaterally outside of Congress is not the answer.

It is time for Congress to act and to do so in a bipartisan fashion that engenders the confidence of the American people. There are many common-sense prescriptions within reach of our government. It is time to seize them.

To begin to solve this problem, we must first have some understanding of why it exists. Despite all of its problems, America is still the place of dreams. As such, it is small wonder that so many from other nations would like to live here.

Right now, we have very porous borders and unenthusiastic and inconsistent enforcement of immigration laws. Further incentives for illegal immigration are easy enrollment in public schools, easy employment for those willing to take jobs others don't want, easy access to healthcare and easy acquisition of public support through welfare programs. Yet this population cannot participate in the formal workforce, which means they cannot contribute fully to their local economies.

Any discussion of immigration reform should include bipartisan solutions that both address the undocumented population here today and discourage illegal immigration going forward. If these issues are not addressed, solutions will fall short."

Why is it SO difficult to enforce America's current immigration laws?  Because the problem has become such a huge and disastrous mess that it is easier to choose a "lawless" path?  Not following the laws of the land only creates mass chaos ... such as what we are seeing with illegal alien immigration.

The US Government should STOP all social programs and enticements that make the illegals want to come here. I'm talking about all the welfare programs and health care. Health care for emergencies is okay. Fix them up and ship them off. Other than that, go back to your own country to get your cholecystectomy and to have your hallux valgus corrected. Don't come here when you're at 8-1/2 months gestation. Come here the legal way and contribute to our society. We would love to have you because we love all cultures, but do it the right way. How can we ever trust you if you break the law in the first place by coming here?

A Conservative Amnesty: A Proposal That Will End Illegal ImmigrationDec 04, 2014
By Richard Kelsey  December 3, 2014 Just the word amnesty fires me up.  The thought of rewarding criminal behavior is abhorrent to me.  When light-weight, pro-amnesty politicians hump “comprehensive immigration reform,” they are talking about amnesty.  I have been in the fight against illegal immigration for more than two decades.  I grew up in a small New Jersey town over-run by illegal aliens.  I saw town officials take advice from federal a ...

Immigration ReformApr 24, 2010
Click on O's pic and you can play the video. BTW, I applaud AZ for taking matters into their own hands since the government has been so lax in protecting its citizens from crimes committed by illegals. I think this has come to a head since the death of the farmer killed a few weeks ago. It is also a way to force the government to start paying attention.  Illegal is ILLEGAL. While others have come here legally, others have followed illegally.  It must be stopped but as an af ...

Immigration Reform Off The AgendaApr 30, 2010
I especially love the line about not doing something just for the sake of politics - who is he kidding?  The whole reason it's not on the agenda anymore is because of politics!  And you can blame the republicans or the democrats - they're both just as guilty of doing what's right for themselves instead of what's right for the country!  A politician doesn't do anything that isn't for the sake of politics! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100430/ ...

Obama On Comprehensive Immigration ReformMay 12, 2011
President Barack Obama renewed his push for comprehensive immigration reform Tuesday, citing America's legacy as a nation of immigrants and saying that finding a solution for millions of undocumented workers is critical to the country's common future. Gang Of Eight's Immigration Reform Is VERY FlawedApr 27, 2013
ICE Officer and President of the National ICE Council testified at a hearing on the immigration bill that the Gang of Eight are trying to push through Congress - again, without anyone being able to read it. Sound familiar? Will they have to pass it to find out what's in it? I am so disgusted with these Senators, a couple that I had high respect for...and now this. There are so many loopholes that it will be another fiasco. Back when the amnesty was passed, we only had how many illegals in ...

Immigration Reform S. 744 Passes SenateJun 27, 2013
Don't think it will pass the House. Border security is NOT first in this bill and Janet Napolitano is the one who will make the decision on whether the border is secure or not...and we all know she thinks it is secure...that's why they never finished the fence. Yet the border agents are saying it's not secure and....well, if it WAS secure, how did 11 Million illegal immigrants cross it? This bill also sets limits on ag workers, lower than what it is now.  BTW, vote was 68-3 ...

I have not copied the whole articles since it would take up too much room. I HAVE POSTED THE LINKS AFTER THE ARTICLE. It's up to everyone to go to those links  to read the whole article. The last time Congress enacted sweeping immigration reform was back in 1986. That bill, signed by Ronald Reagan, looked a lot like the proposals being put forward today. There was a path to citizenship for existing illegal immigrants, coupled with tighter border enforcement. What did the 1986 ...

Obama: GOP 'nativists' Blocking Immigration ReformDec 29, 2014
In a discussion about his recent executive actions on immigration, President Obama called out "nativists" in the Republican Party who he claimed are obstructing immigration reform,in an interview with NPR published on Monday morning. "The question then becomes, by me having taken these actions, does that spur those voices in the Republican Party who I think genuinely believe immigration is good for our country? Does it spur them to work once again with Democrats and my administration to get a r ...

Republicans Agree It's The Wrong Time For Immigration ReformApr 28, 2010
By Heather Monday Apr 26, 2010 5:00pm Mitch McConnell and Saxby Chambliss were both reading from the same script when asked about Arizona's new "show me your papers" immigration law. 5 Reasons To Say No To Amnesty!Jul 01, 2010
5 Reasons Illegal Immigrants Shouldn't Be Given American Citizenship John Hawkins Over the last few months most conservatives have quite naturally been distracted by Barack Obama's frightening incompetence, his elephantine spending, and his zealous attempts to swallow as much of the private sector as the government beast can stuff down its gaping maw. Obama: Fund My Amnesty Or I’ll Shut Down The GovernmentDec 02, 2014
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday that President Barack Obama will block a government budget bill if the GOP denies him the funds needed to provide amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Earnest said when asked by ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl if Obama would veto a government-wide budget that defunded the amnesty program, “Yes". If Obama blocks the budget to help the illegals, large sections of the federal government would shut down on Dec. 12. But Earnest equivocated wh ...

Is Health Care Reform Constitutional?Mar 22, 2010
According to what I have been reading today, NO. The government cannot force us to buy health insurance: "But the individual mandate extends the commerce clause's power beyond economic activity, to economic inactivity. That is unprecedented. Everything I have heard, like being covered even if you have a preexisting condition, not being dropped when you get sick, covering kids until the age of 26, no lifetime caps, etc. all sounds great and consumer friendly. Why are candidates appealing to the public to vote for them and they will fight it? Why do ...
