If the Price is Right - by Chuck Norris

Posted: Jan 5, 2010

At almost 80 years old, Thomas Jefferson foresaw the corruption of a federal government with too much power, when he wrote to William T. Barry in 1822, just a few years before his death: "If ever this vast country is brought under a single government, it will be one of the most extensive corruption(s), indifferent and incapable of a wholesome care over so wide a spread of surface." "Wholesome care" like universal health care?

I waited until the new year to write this column because Washington was hoping its Christmas corruption would evade the majority of holiday revelers or become old news to even political junkies and pundits, who now are moving on to new issues. (This White House astutely understands and utilizes news cycles and calendars far better than any previous administration.)

While you passed out Christmas gifts to loved ones, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid passed out Christmas bonuses via the passing of the Senate health care bill -- what I call perpetual pork, gifts that keep on giving, unlike those familiar single hits at the public trough. He initiated a new frontier in pork barrel politics. His corrupt and creative diversions included giving out Medicaid and Medicare credits like another round of pork projects.

This health care pork round all started with Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., who bragged about receiving a $300 million increase in Medicaid funding for her state (what some are calling the Second Louisiana Purchase), though it turned out that it was only $100 million. (Isn't that a relief?)

Then there was the now infamous Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., who gained his 15 minutes of yuletide fame when he sold out his critical 60th vote to pass Obamacare by accepting a governmental bribe that covers Nebraska's Medicare expansion costs to the tune of $100 million over the next 10 years.

And God knows, I go to Chuck Norris for all my news!! haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Practice what you preach there AZzzzzzz

Why do repubs always want to pick a fight? why so angry? - Holly

And to everyone on this board who swore Obama would lose the election.. . HE WON, GET OVER IT. BE AMERICAN AND BACK THE MAN UP
Like I'm sure you backed Bush, right? - AzRain
[ In Reply To ..]
Keep it up, though. You're losing Democrats right and left just in Obama's 1st year....down 6% so far. Now you're running neck and neck with the Republicans. Can't wait to see what the total is by the time the 2010 elections come around.
I did give Bush a chance... different from you because.....more in message - Lolly

I have been reading your posts since before the election. You despise the man. I did back Bush even though I didn't vote for him. After a while it became impossible, but I most certainly gave him a chance and to this day I gave him credit for certain things that he deserved credit for.

Do you see what I mean about angry? Maybe you don't realize it yourself but an objective observer can see that you jumped right on me about Bush. You don't even know me. Stop picking fights and let's have adult discussion.
It seems the crats always want to start trouble - and are the angry ones
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't come to this board often because of posts like this, trying to start a fight, and like the one a democrat started about people wanting Obama to fail, when they know its the policies people want to fail, and many other posts I read posted by democrats trying to start a fight.

And do you really have to resort to childish tactics of screaming that Obama won. We all know that. We accepted it a long time ago. There is nothing to get over. It seems your the one who can't get over it. If you somehow think you are rubbing it in people's faces there really is no need for that. After all 2010 is here...democrats are jumping ship faster than employees running out of a burning building. 2010 is going to be a great year. So you may have Obama but we're taking back the house. The democrats leash is getting short and they are no longer going to destroy this country anymore.

Elections of 2010 - vote the incompetent democrats out. Woohoo.
The proof is in the reading of these posts, the repubs are angry - Lolly
[ In Reply To ..]
I was just stating a fact and someone tries to argue about it. This isn't first grade. Read the posts. The conservatives are angry and they get that way, I believe from watching Fox.
So, where do the dems get their nastiness and - sarcasm? MSNBC?
[ In Reply To ..]
You might as well not even go there. I have seen dems on here make fun of others so much, asking them if they have taken their meds, calling them uneducated, religious nuts... the list goes on and on. To me, they seem extremely bitter to anyone disagreeing with them.
Repubs who don't watch Fox are not as ANGRY - Dems are not mean and rude like repubs on this boa
[ In Reply To ..]
Also in real life. I find the repubs are furious and I attribute it to what they watch. The repubs that don't watch Fox are not angry.
I think we learned it from talking to conservatives. - nm

It's not just pubs. It's dems, too. - Backwards Typist
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess it depends on how the day panned out for everyone. Some days, the dems get all bent out of shape over something and some days, the pubs get all bent out of shape. I've seen it on both sides many times. So just don't blame one side or the other.

Anyway, how do you know the posters are dems or pubs? Just because they are for or against O? Doesn't mean anything. Some in both parties are for or against certain things coming down the pike.

You do realize that I was quoting what you said in an earlier post . . . - emanon

[ In Reply To ..]
to Nikki? I don't care what you post -- you have that right -- just as I have the right to make snide remarks about YOUR posts! How's that said shoe on said other foot?
She posts left-wing, I post right-wing. What's the problem? - AzRain
[ In Reply To ..]
If you don't like the articles I post, don't read them. That's what Nikki told me, and now I'm telling you.

Sorry, E., but you are wrong. - Backwards Typist

You do NOT have the right to post snide (hateful) remarks against another poster. Neither does anyone else.  'nuff said.

Actually, BT, I DO have the "right" to post snide remarks if I want to . . . . . sm - emanon
[ In Reply To ..]
but I choose to not usually participate in the kind of drive-by, catty remarks that bear no relevance or offer nothing insightful to the subject, and are done purely to raise the ire of opposing opinion. Sometimes, it is hard, however, for me to resist not putting that shoe on the other foot.

I do agree with you, however, that common courtsy dictates that this kind of petty, childish behavior should not be tolerated by the rest of us that desire to have meaningful discourse on this board.

Number one, I'm not the "boss" of you, so whatever (sm) - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]
you think I "told" you to do was just a suggestion.

Number two - are you sitting down? LOL - I agree with your right to post any story from any source you select.

To post stories as you did puts ideas on this board to discuss and debate, be they left or right. They will rise or fall on their own merit.

I applaud your posts, your right to post them, and hope we can have civil discussions by sticking to the issues raised and not get personal.

So I hope you keep posting news stories that you find interesting.

P.S. I also applaud your posting abilities. I can never get that "URL/Link" thing to work right for me.

Chuck Schumer Is Gabbing About The Oil SubsidiesMay 16, 2011
They expect it to come to a vote this week. It would only stop the subsidies for big oil: BP, Sunoco, Shell, Exxon Mobil, and Conoco. The little guys won't be affected. The purpose of the bill is to make a dent in the deficit. It will NOT affect gas prices.  "The government sends $1 billion a day overseas to countries we don't like." I think this is the one they are talking about: Close Big Oil Tax Loopholes Act - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to deny to taxpayers with gross ...

Protesters Occupy Sen. Chuck Schumer's CapitolNov 15, 2016

The protesters, who came from groups such as Black Lives Matter and Occupy Wall Street, argued that Hillary Clint ...

Confirmed: Chuck Schumer Lied To America AboutJun 26, 2017
Two longtime members of the Senate are not happy with each other, and both happen to be named “Chuck.” This past week Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) called Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) a liar, for his blatant attmept to smear President Trump when Schumer knew full well that the FBI was NOT investigating the President. The Yasser Arafat Of Democrat Party; How Chuck SchumerMar 31, 2017
The late terrorist Yasser Arafat (1929-2004) was famous for saying one thing to American media and the opposite to Palestinian audiences. To U.S. presidents and chief diplomatic correspondents he would profess his desire for peace and for a two-state solution, while to Arabs and Muslims he would impugn Jews, hint at Israel's abolition, and incite and pay for anti-Semitic violence. His problem was that, like most liars, he was eventually found out. President George W. Bush saw through Arafat ...

Price Of Gas Is Going Up, Up And Up. Mar 04, 2012

Here We Go Again! Dems Want To Probe Alleged Gas Price FixingMay 17, 2011
Geez. Every time gas prices go through the roof, they want to investigate, and never find anything wrong, or else they lose interest and it never goes very far. Why do they insist on wasting time? Could it be they don't want to deal with the deficit/debt ceiling vote, or JOBS; i.e., getting people back to work.     Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri on Monday asked federal regulators to investigate potential price fixing by oil companies that could be keeping gasoline prices arti ...
