IRAQ Before 2003 and after 2003

Posted: Nov 25, 2009

Should be those responsible for this be tried as war criminals?  Isn’t ironic that a US president wins Noble Peace Price without making any concrete effort to rectify situation in Iraq .

The picture below will take few seconds to load....

iraq before and after 2003

That is one of the saddest things I've seen - Hmmm

And what did they do to deserve that? Nothing I can think of. You know, they got the leader (Saddam), and that should have been then end of it. It's awful to see what war has done to their country and the people. No good reason for it - in my humble opinion. Iraq looked like it was a very beautiful country.

Sorry, but Obama wasn't president in 2003. (sm) - Nikki

It took a long time to destroy Iraq (for no reason whatsoever). Bush started this war, not Obama. Funny how you are now blaming Obama for this.

The truth is that pursuant to the US-Iraq Security Agreement, troops have been leaving Iraq since at least the summer of 2009. I don't know when/how they plan on releasing the rest of the troops, and I don't want to know, as publicizing the event may place our troops in more jeopardy than ever. You may be interested in Googling "US-Iraq Security Agreement." It will provide you with the correct information.

This war is NOT something you can blame on Obama.

I'm not clear on what Obama plans on achieving in Afghanistan, and I wish troops were being withdrawn instead of added, but, again, safety of our troops is the most important thing when it comes to removing them from a war zone.

I didn't take her post that way - Hmmm

I think what happened to Iraq was horrible. A land of beauty turned into what...horrible ruins, rubble...and like you said...for no reason (or was that me that said that) :-). I do not believe there was any reason for us to destroy that country and the people who were responsible should be held accountable (trial for war crimes). I didn't take the poster's post to blame Obama. I took it to mean that Obama has done nothing to help the country rebuild. No it wasn't Obama's fault, but I would have felt a little better about Obama getting the Nobel "Peace" prize if he would put an effort forward to help Iraq - and start the process to have those responsible held accountable.

I do agree so much with your statement that I don't want to know how or when they plan to release the troops as it may put them in more jeopardy.

In my own opinion on the Afg. war - I really do not think it is a war we will ever win. I too would like to see more troops being withdrawn. Sometimes you just gotta cut things loose and take the loss. Again these are all my opinions. Our troops are very courageous and ready to protect our country and citizens of our country, but what is the purpose of this war? To get the Taliban? I don't think they ever will. There are too many of them and they are hiding in too many places. I just for the life of me cannot find a good reason as to why we are continuing this on. I may be wrong and am sure if I am someone will respond.

I don't think anyone blames Obama for the start of the war, but if he is doing nothing to achieve peace, and just keeps sending more troops to their death, that is when you gotta say why? Do something to show you have earned the Nobel prize. I just don't see that right now, and again, not all his fault. He needs to hire some new advisers that know what they are doing to direct him in the right decisions.

I agree but what Obama is doing to rectify the situation? - NM

To Hmmm and NM: SOFA. (sm) - Nikki

There was an agreement entered into between the US and Iraq: SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement). This was negotiated between the USA and Iraq before Bush left office.

The agreement calls for all US troops "to fall back out of Iraqi cities by June 2009 and to be out of Iraq by the end of 2011. It is also being debated by the Iraqi Parliament."

Here's a link to what I'm talking about.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/19/iraq.sofa/index.html

This is my understanding of what's going on in Iraq. If I'm wrong, please let me know, since I haven't heard much about this agreement in the news recently.

Maybe I took the poster's post wrong, but "Isn't ironic that a US president wins Noble Peace Price without making any concrete effort to rectify situation in Iraq" sounds like someone is blaming Obama.

It only takes a very short time to destroy something and a very long time to repair the damage that's been done. There are a lot of factors involved, not the least of which are the conditions on the ground at the time of troop withdrawal and whether it's a safe time for them to leave.

But if someone wants to know what Obama is doing, I believe he's following the agreement between Bush and Iraq. Iraq is a mess, and we never had any business invading and occupying it in the first place, in my opinion.

As far as Afghanistan, I don't agree with Obama adding more troops. History has shown that nobody is going to win a war against Afghanistan. Perhaps we should fix what we broke before we leave, but at the same time, I don't believe we should be "nation building." There's a lot in our own nation that needs building.

Having said that, Obama has said from the beginning that Afghanistan is where we should be fighting, and he wants to get bin Laden. I wish someone would get bin Laden, as well, but I don't think a war against Afghanistan is going to help accomplish that goal. What if bin Laden winds up in Pakistan (where some people believe he is now)? Do we then bomb Pakistan? Trying to get bin Laden seems to be akin to playing a game of "whack-a-mole" because of the ease with which he can move from one country to another.

Anyway, I wanted to point out the SOFA, just in case you hadn't seen it.

Hope you both have a great day.

Maybe BO can negotiate with the terrorists overtaking Iraq and broker a deal to reduce our fuel prices. He didn't listen to all of the military opinions before his premature withdrawal and look what happened, just what many military experts predicted. Thanks, Mr. President, for undoing what was done. Also, Iraq was apparently recently begging the WH for military strikes against the terrorists, but he declined. I guess he was busy on the links that day. ...

What About Iraq War Veterans Committing Suicide??? May 29, 2012
I just watched a TV documentary about new war veterans coming back from Iraq.  They say that every day at least 28 veterans are committing suicide.  This is truly shocking news.  I am wondering if their statistics are really accurate.  They say that only 33% are approved to receive PTSD benefits.  There is not enough money in their budget to approve all the claims.  I used to transcribe Veteran's health care reports and know that there are many mental heal ...
