I was so impressed by the Chick-Fil-A fast food worker who

He objected to "hateful ideas" by being hateful. She responded with calm dignity and courtesy, never once giving back in kind - even inviting him to come back to the restaurant at any time to get "free water", which was the only thing he ordered (merely in order to get into the takeout window line).

What was particularly interesting was that he went out of his way to declare that he himself wasn't gay. He didn't want anyone on YouTube to think that!

After posting this juvenile tirade on YouTube this dilbert was promptly fired from his job as CFO of Vante Corp. I suppose he'll now wear the mantle of "martyr for the cause".

And "the cause", for people like him, is nothing more or less than the stage on which they can act out their own personal psychodramas and find their 15 minutes of fame. And they view the people whom they abuse in this little (emphasis, "little") play as merely their props.

Comedian and 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan was forced to apologize after his diatribe incensed Nashville audience members who immediately walked out. Apparently they thought his threat to stab his own son to death if he ever came out to him was WAY over the top and not the least bit funny. Alas, he never made it to martyr-for-the-cause status since earlier that year, TNT had been forced to apologize to Sarah Palin for comments he had made in a live NBA telecast that offended teapots nationwide. No video here, but worthy of mention is the legal action taken by a gay Long Island Starbuck’s employee after a gay couple and their 3-yo daughter were forced to witness the store’s manager gang up with 2 other employees and go off on the worker in a blistering smack-down that essentially was all about his inability to put up with their bigotry while at work. Here is an excerpt from a letter to Starbucks written by one of the witnesses:

“I don’t know this man, but I know his name is Jeffrey because the woman (who seemed to be in charge of this circus) loudly scolded, spoke to in a condescending manner, humiliated, and then let him go. In the middle of your store. Two feet away from my table. Then when Jeffrey, who was visibly shaken went, to the bathroom to collect him self, the women at the table went on a long, ranting homophobic rant that lasted about five minutes. This rant transpired two feet away from my table where I sat with my daughter. A three year old child, with two mothers. I have never, in my entire life seem such a gross and unapologetic display of ignorance and intolerance. The whole incident lasted about 15-20 minutes.”

Speaking of martyrs for the proud cause, due to time constraints I am unable to sift through over a million hits after searching “Terry Jones homophobic rants.” My point is that, given the abundance of proof supporting the preponderance of barbaric behaviors gay-bashing elicits (including the rather mild-by-comparison “how-do-you-sleep-at-night?” drive-thru swipe Foxsters have seized upon in their own 15-minute viral frenzy), it might be logical to conclude that CluckfilA’s ill-advised exercise of its “rights” was all wrong in terms of serving up a supersized side portion of hate with its free water marketing ploy....if for no other reason than having put their employees smack dab in the middle of dealing with it's fallout.

I watched the video and then googled her name (which is slightly misspelled just below the video...I just happened to know the correct last name from it being prevalent around my area, which is very close to that spelling). I found some follow-up stories that said her brother has come forward and said she's schizophrenic, and the things she says are from her mental illness rather than being an extreme right-winger. BTW, she's only 52 years old.

I've got plenty of time this evening to go surfing through the comments sections found on their proliferative gay-bashing websites, or perhaps those found at the end of gay-issues-related articles. Shall I post a couple of dozen pieces of corroborating evidence to substantiate my claim (likely to make Ms Svoda's ramble sound like a Sunday sermon) or, as Romney would say, can you "just trust me" on this?

The only caveat would be the selected examples would need to be heavily redacted in places, so as to conform with forum rules against obscene language. Having said that, I'm sure I can find some delightful conspiracy theories amongst them, such as the one I posted previously, that Michigan's GOP Assistant Attorney General, Andrew Shirvell, is being sued over. In case you missed it, his theory suggests University of Michigan's openly gay elected student body president, Chris Armstrong, is clandestinely pushing an agenda to recruit incoming freshman into a gay lifestyle. I understand Mr. Shirvell also set up a "Chris Armstrong Watch" website so he could relax and enjoy a little cyberstalking while trying to unwind after a hard day at the office.

I'm the one who posted that the woman in the first video link is apparently schizophrenic...at least what I could find about her online. I think it was also stated by her brother that she is 52 years old. "Jane Svoboda" is her name. I was hesitant to post her name here, but it's on the public record, and she gives her name in the video in a public forum, so I guess I'm not disclosing anything private.

But you've got me all wrong. I am very pro gay rights and against gay bashing or discrimination of any sort. I find the "pray-the-gay-away" crowd to be wrong-headed and somewhat ridiculous. I, too, have heard many horrible statements made by some, which I consider hate speech; and I agree that this woman with a mental illness is repeating things that do sound, unfortunately, like many of the ugly, ugly comments that those with their full mental capacities throw around. It's sad and disgusting that people can be so cruel to fellow human beings. Ever heard the words or seen the signs that the Fred Phelps religious group spews at soldiers' funerals? I would dispute that they're "in full control of their mental capacities," but still....disgusting beyond words, in my mind.

I'm just also for full transparency and knowing the truth about things, whichever side of an argument they're on; so I just thought it was important to point out that this particular woman might not be in full command of her faculties....just for information's sake.

consistent with extremist views, and certainly not with the revelation she is schizophrenic. I am very familiar and 100% sympathetic with the circumstances with which the brother is dealing, since I had a very close family member who was diagnosed with schizophrenia back in the 1950s, treated with experimental medication protocols (including long-term LSD titration trials!), and institutionalized for 28 years of his life in the VA Hospital's long-term care inpatient psych ward.

When pharmacological treatments improved in the 1980s he was transferred from there to a nursing home. Ms Svoboda and he had something else in common. During his later years, after the meds had the psychotic features of his illness under control, and when he was in compliance with taking them (which for schizophrenics often is difficult to maintain) he would get a day pass, hop a bus, ride all over town, transfer from one line to another on long elaborate sight-seeing routes, and eventually show up at city hall public forums, such as the anti-discrimination laws meeting in Lincoln. He would seize the floor, let her rip, and air his political views at length, for better or worse. He even indulged fantasies of RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT a couple of times! I'd be the first one to tell you his campaigns were highly structured, well planned down to the most minute details, and absolutely FASCINATING to witness. I actively encouraged him and participated right along with him as an avid supporter.

Needless to say, I am all for the transparency you lent to the poorly reported video in the OP and I share all your views on the topic at hand. I also agree that I got you all wrong when assuming your post was defensive of the contents of Ms Svoboda's speech, so please accept my apology for the initial and closing snark. This is a hot button issue for me because of my brother's suicide, which I posted about yesterday....no excuse, but there it is. I appreciate your having set me and the record straight.

It's author then gleefully proceeded to crow about what a jerk he is and how he got fired from his job. I countered with examples in kind, suggesting there are two sides to that coin, in an effort to apply some comparative perspective to the original claim. The thread has stayed on topic in the spirit of the original post by delving deeper and deeper into the nature of anti-gay hate speech vs pro-gay hate speech allegations.

So this begs the question: Should the moderator remove the entire thread, or only those entries up to the point where the original premise met its challenge?
