The state of our city has never been stronger. The State of the City address, delivered Thursday, February 14 at 12 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, laid out where we are going and how we will build on this foundation of success.

Record Number of Private Sector Jobs – with a job growth rate six times the nation’s over the last ten years. The number of businesses in boroughs outside Manhattan grew three times faster than in Manhattan, in industries including tech, tourism, film & TV, education, bioscience, and food service.

Record Low Number of Murders & Shootings – With incarceration rates cut by 32%.

Record Low Number of Civilian Fire Deaths and Record Lowest Response Times to Emergencies.

Record High Life Expectancy – 2.2 years longer than the national average. Record low infant mortality rate.

Record High School Graduation Rates (an increase of 41% from 2005 to 2011) -- outpacing the increase in the rest of the state. Dropout rate cut nearly in half (from 22% to 12%) during that time.

Record Number of Students Taking and Passing AP Exams (89% increase in students taking, 86.5% increase in students passing at least one exam since 2002). Since 2008, A.P. participation increased 25.6% for black students and 41.8% for Hispanic students.

Record Number of New Schools Created (nearly 600) and Classroom Seats Added (100,000 by the end of 2013). Record number of full day pre-K seats (increased seats by 4,000 in 2012).

Record School Safety -- Major crime in City schools has been cut 49% since 2001.

Record Number of Affordable Housing Units Created or Preserved (projected 160,000 by the end of 2013).

Record Investment in Parks – With record addition of waterfront park acreage and record number of trees planted in public spaces (650,000 just since 2007).

Record Number of New Yorkers Who Live Within a 10-Minute Walk of a Park or Playground – 76%, up more than 250,000 people since 2002.

Record Number of Tourists – up from 36 Million in 2000 to 52 Million in 2012 – and record number of visitors to Coney Island.

Record Investment in Cultural Institutions –$1.6 billion over 10 years.

Record Welfare Low Hit in 2008 – With welfare rolls down 21.5% in 2012 compared to 2001.

Record Number of Rezonings – With more than 36% of the city now rezoned to increase investment and protect neighborhood character.

Record Low Number of Traffic Fatalities in 2011 and Record Number of Bike Lanes Created (around 440 miles).

Record City Investment in Mass Transit –With first City-funded expansion of the subway in half a century and successful new East River Ferry service.

Record Investment in Our City’s Infrastructure – Since 2002, the City has committed more than $88 billion to capital infrastructure projects, including improvements to the City’s roads, sewers, public buildings, and the construction of the Third Water Tunnel.

Record Engagement - Record amount of private donations and pledges to support public projects (nearly $77 million in 2012), and a record number of volunteers engaged through NYC Service (1.7 million).

Record Low Number of Children in Foster Care - Number of children in foster care has dropped more than 50% since 2002 (from nearly 28,000 to just over 13,000 today).

Record Low Teen Pregnancy – Teen pregnancy is down 27% since 2001.

Record Reduction in Pollution - Reduction of 170 metric tons of soot pollution (PM2.5) through conversions from heavy heating oil to cleaner fuels, which will save more than 50 lives each year.

Record reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions – A more-than 15% reduction from 2005 levels, or 11 million metric tons.

Record Investment in Water Quality — Thanks to $10 billion of investment, New York Harbor is the cleanest it’s been in more than 100 years.
