Huckabee has been vindicated.

Posted: Jan 24, 2014

The post noted below and the sound bytes shown by MSM have been edited, printed and/or aired out of context. I have seen the entire "real" speech. The GOP is all about empowering and respecting women. Just the opposite of what the left wants us to believe.

;

Exactly! Whatever Obama says or does is opposite - of what he says and does.

I don't believe anything he says.

I listened to the speech too. - sm

It was basically a stock, what one would expect, conservative speech until he got to the libido part.

IMO a man has no business telling a women to control her libido in any context. In the context of his speech, however, it was especially more offensive. If you can't afford birth control, you shouldn't have sex. If you can afford birth control, the sky's the limit. Sex is reserved for only those can afford birth control. He wasn't speaking to all women. He was speaking to poor women, poor married couples. They don't deserve pleasure. They're poor. That's what they get for being slackers. And if they need birth control for health reasons? Oh, that's too bad too, but I doubt that ever occurred to him.

I found that part of his speech self-righteous and offensive, not just to poor women, but all women. No man has any business being that explicit about something so personal. Women bear the responsibility in such a large way in family planning, carrying a healthy child to term, and actual birth giving. His comment was directed specifically at the woman. Men can do as they please. ...but, the wife is supposed to submit according to the Bible that he preaches from. So, is she to control her libido or submit to her husband? Which is it, Mr. Huckabee?

And it really doesn't matter if the right wing supporters/voters believe that somehow it empowers women to tell them they can't have sex. Because most American women (and men!) think he was way out of line. This speech will be echoed, plus all the other sexist offensive comments made during the last election over and over from now until 2014 and 2016 elections. He opened that can of worms, and Mr. Priebus is not happy.

Mr. Priebus doesn't seem to get it, though, either. He implores the GOP to change their tone, but it's obvious the GOP's belief system regarding the poor, women, and minorities is not in line with the "tone" he wants so badly and that the GOP needs badly to avoid further defeats. So the tone won't change, as Huckabee perfectly illustrated.

He said DEMOCRATS want women to think that they need the government to take care of them. He said women do not need the government to take care of them - women are independent and can take care of themselves without "uncle sugar" taking care of them.....

Yes, it was a very clever spin, but he and his party, the GOP, would have been - better served

[ In Reply To ..]
by keeping his nose out of a place he has no business. Implying the government is a sugar daddy did his brand no good either.

It's obvious he has no clue what the Democrats want and he can say whatever he wants, but it is meaningless if it is a misrepresentation. And if it comes through as telling women to control their sex drive, again, none of his business.

The Democrats, in turn, now get to say what the Republicans want... how they want to interfere in women's private reproductive rights. And that's exactly how it will come across.

He should have left well enough alone and left out the personal and offensive statement. I know he is appealing to his base, but we see where that got the Reps before. Again, GOP is quite unhappy with him right now.

and... I'm still trying to figure out how he squares the Bible teachings of wife submitting to the husband, but the wife should control her libido... how does that work?

Great post. Thank you - nm

I repeat "He said DEMOCRATS" want women to think.... - Irene

"HE" is telling women that they shouldn't listen to the DEMOCRATS who tell them that they need government....good grief.
Of course! Where does he get off telling women what to do or who to listen to? - empowerment means

thinking for ones self, not doing what Mr. Huckabee or anyone else insists they do, especially when it comes to the most intimate part of life.
How does he know what Democrats want women to think. sm - VTMT

This is what Democrats want women to know: If you wish to use contraception. it will be covered by your health insurance at no additional cost. Very simple.

Maybe he should stick to what he knows, what Republicans want women to think. I'd love to hear what he thinks about the male libido. I think he knew that part of his speech was volatile and used it to get his name back out there as someone who is still relevant and a good GOTP member.
Democratic platform is about - oppression of the masses.

Republican platform is about empowerment and bettering oneself.
Don't bother trying to explain what happened. They are spinning it - Mrs. Tingles - sm

Into something it's not. It's a very good liberal tactic. Just lie about what was said. They've got their minds up about what they want to spin it into and even when someone says something on camera they twist it into something its not. Come election time - it's going to be a very exciting time - go pubs!

Yes, he has. Huckabee can handle whatever the - idiots dish out. Go Mike!!

Vindicated by whom? - NK

[ In Reply To ..]
He didn't really need vindication by his base - they think just like him. As far as Democrat/Independent/Moderate Republican women voters, how many do you think said to themselves, "Oh, wow, Rev. Huckabee really understands how to empower and respect women?"

Vindicated by truth - without spin.

[ In Reply To ..]
It's really sad how the left tries to pounce and twist the truth. We can see it's a deflection to get attention away from the problems in the White House.

I realize - NK

[ In Reply To ..]
that the mantra of "just accuse them of deflection" is the current spin of the far right, but there are, of course, people who can multitask.
Multitask and spin? - Good trick.

I have no response - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
since I don't know what you mean. I can, however, point out that the responding poster deflected attention from my original question by bringing up deflection, so I'll ask it again. How many women voters do you think Rev. Huckabee's remarks brought into the Republican fold, and I'll add another. Why do you think Reince Priebus is begging Republicans to improve their tone and choice of words in order to "grow the rank?" Did he hear something in Huckabee's choice of words that might not accomplish that goal?

He just doesnt want BC covered by insurance, - plain and simple.

[ In Reply To ..]
And I strongly disagree with him.

Why didn't he make this same comment - about Viagra?

[ In Reply To ..]
Why didn't he say men can be empowered by not relying on daddy sugar or whatever stupid phrase he used to pay for their Viagra? Why ONLY bring up women and women's health care?
