I think it pertinent that the Brown family has requested peace in their child's name, given the events of the past 2 days and the weekend planned activities.
There has been some ugly backlash in St. Louis over the past 2 months and with the Cardinals game tomorrow, of course, a night game, I worry what might happen.

When crime happens in this country, it is incumbent upon law enforcement and the court system to gather evidence and prove guilt from the presumption of innocence of ALL offenders, not just the white ones. The protests are not so much about the Shaw shooting as they are about the fact that blacks are 21 times more likely to be shot and killed by the police and when they do manage to survive the arrest phase, they are charged, convicted, and receive much longer sentences than their white counterparts. What is so hard to understand about equal justice under the law? Then there's that issue of Ferguson's deployment of a militarized police force in response to community protests that makes the residents less safe, not more.

[ In Reply To ..]The officer shot at the kid 17 times and killed him. Seventeen times, 7 of which hit him, 1 in the head. Why did the off duty cop stop the boys? Probable cause of what? The boys ran. Why did he chase the boy? What was his crime? The boy only shot after he ran away from the cop.
Not defending the kid that ran away and shot at the officer, missing him 3 times, just saying there's a happy medium in there where people don't have to die because an off-duty cop decided to question them.

[ In Reply To ..]long before the "Shaw" shooting last Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Shaw shooting just fueled this a bit more. One more example of shooting a kid in a slightly less than explainable circumstance.
These protests were labelled Weekend of Resistance or Ferguson October and is expected to bring 1000s of protestors to St. Louis from "all over." This morning's reports have, indeed, shown people from Kansas and Illinois.
