Does Hillary know that she may have just destroyed her career in politics?

Posted: Oct 16, 2012

By taking responsibility for the lack of security in Benghazi, I think she may have just blown her own future. Is she hoping that it will all be forgotten by 2016? What the heck was she thinking? To cover for the President and VP is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

Hillary may have to share some of the blame but let's put the blamed where it belongs. Right at the top. The way this story comes out, it's all in her lap...another one bites the dust. Does the WH have something on her and is blackmailing her to take the fall? I can't see her taking the full blame unless something else is going on. After all, you know she really doesn't care for Obama. We all know that.

I just don't understand her thinking.

While I have never been a huge fan of hers, it is refreshing to see a politician take responsibility for something for a change. I have more respect for someone who does that than for someone who backpeddles, doubletalks, and passes the buck. Granted, the consequences of her failure were dire, but the fact is that everyone makes mistakes and sometimes grave mistakes--presidents, vice-presidents, etc, included. I think the fact that she owned it may actually help her down the road.

I'm not a huge fan of her either, but I still say she might have - backwards typist

ruined her chances later.

I just heard her state "I'm responsible for the State Department...." but she did NOT take responsibility for the lax security.

Here's the difference. Because of the ongoing investigation, she will probably not be held responsible, so maybe she will not blow her chances of a political future and is just trying to protect her boss.

you are making far too many assumptions - (as per usual)

[ In Reply To ..]
Well, I don't blame her from wanting to move on from Ryan shooting - the campaign in the foot again. Besides, Hillary
[ In Reply To ..]
has been leading a rather charmed media life these past several years, and that's going to have to end eventually. They'll turn on her at some point for some reason. They run in packs, and it's their nature. A dem.
I agree 100%. GOP is trying so hard to pin this - on the prez, regardless

of the fact that we are only in the very preliminary stages of the investigation. Of course this has not stopped Issa et al from jumping straight into committee hearings they hope will exact as much damage as possible President Obama prior to the election. The Secretary of State IS directly responsible for embassy security, an inconvenient fact they choose to ignore in their rush to judgment, as is clearly evident in repeated declarations in BWT's posts. I do think Hillary Clinton's acceptance of direct responsibility (which I do NOT view as a "coverup") will not hurt her in the long run and believe instead that this is just wishful thinking on the part of the GOP. I also do not think their determination to politicize this incident is going to help their chances of winning the election. No even.
Commander in Chief.... - SK1

Whether directly or indirectly responsible for the failure on the part of Secretary of State, the President of the United States is responsible for the workings of his administration and his appointees.
Wishful thinking on the part of the GOP? - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
It was my opinion, not the GOP, that this will hurt Hillary.

Geez, why is it no one can have a separate opinion on this board? No matter who posts anything, right away it's jumped on as THE PARTY, not THE PERSON posting.
Perhaps because the same sentiments are making - the rounds in the winger blogosphere as we speak.
[ In Reply To ..]
Geez, indeed.

She is responsible.... - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
I can imagine the behind-doors conversation.... "Take responsibility or we're going to fire you."

Which would be less of a disgrace in the eyes of Hillary? This way, at least everybody thinks she's just being Obama's scapegoat.

I think she should lose her job, but that doesn't exonerate the White House from responsibility, also.

How do you figure? Based on what? - Imagination? nm

Her failure to perform her duties cost four Americans their lives.

From the horse's mouth, for your reading enjoyment.  (Bolding mine so you don't miss the key point  -- it's a pretty important key point).  Doesn't take much imagination to read a job description...........

January 20, 2009

Under the Constitution, the President of the United States determines U.S. foreign policy. The Secretary of State, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, is the President’s chief foreign affairs adviser. The Secretary carries out the President’s foreign policies through the State Department and the Foreign Service of the United States.

Created in 1789 by the Congress as the successor to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State is the senior executive Department of the U.S. Government. The Secretary of State’s duties relating to foreign affairs have not changed significantly since then, but they have become far more complex as international commitments multiplied. These duties -- the activities and responsibilities of the State Department -- include the following:

  • Serves as the President's principal adviser on U.S. foreign policy;

  • Conducts negotiations relating to U.S. foreign affairs;

  • Grants and issues passports to American citizens and exequaturs to foreign consuls in the United States;

  • Advises the President on the appointment of U.S. ambassadors, ministers, consuls, and other diplomatic representatives;

  • Advises the President regarding the acceptance, recall, and dismissal of the representatives of foreign governments;

  • Personally participates in or directs U.S. representatives to international conferences, organizations, and agencies;

  • Negotiates, interprets, and terminates treaties and agreements;

  • Ensures the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries;

  • Supervises the administration of U.S. immigration laws abroad;

  • Provides information to American citizens regarding the political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian conditions in foreign countries;

  • Informs the Congress and American citizens on the conduct of U.S. foreign relations;

  • Promotes beneficial economic intercourse between the United States and other countries;

  • Administers the Department of State;

  • Supervises the Foreign Service of the United States.

In addition, the Secretary of State retains domestic responsibilities that Congress entrusted to the State Department in 1789. These include the custody of the Great Seal of the United States, the preparation of certain presidential proclamations, the publication of treaties and international acts as well as the official record of the foreign relations of the United States, and the custody of certain original treaties and international agreements. The Secretary also serves as the channel of communication between the Federal Government and the States on the extradition of fugitives to or from foreign countries.

Wow. So does this mean that Obama's job - description

is a composite of every single cabinet member and appointee on his staff? Above, you're saying it's the Commander in Chief job and here you say it's the secretary of state. It must be both of theirs since they are dems, but I'd be curious to hear how this plays out when you are talking about previous administrations.

For example, faulty intel and W's lack of judgment, gullibility and jumping the gun resulted in a war that killed more than 100,000 soldiers and civilians, not to mention the messy fall-out of its aftermath. According to your logic, doesn't that make him and his intel service ultimately responsibility for the deadly charade? Has the GOP learned NOTHING from that episode? Guess not. I hear Mitt thinks we only need ONE MAN in charge of the Middle East. I guess it'll be a sort of traffic cop kinda position. Red light, green light of where we attack next.

Back to blaming Bush? - SK1
[ In Reply To ..]
Really now, isn't it time to let that go? We're not talking about the previous administration and had we been having this discussion during that time period I would have made the same observations. You presume a lot to think otherwise.

And yes, ultimately the President of the United States is responsible for those he appoints to cabinet posts. His choice, his responsibility. As Truman said in his recently oft repeated and co-oped statement, "The buck stops here."
No, dear, not blame. Stating fact. - BTW, for those of us
[ In Reply To ..]
who lost loved ones in that war, it will NEVER be time to let it go. Capiche?
"That war" of which you speak... - SK1
[ In Reply To ..]
My son has served four tours in it and I've lost more loved ones that you can know. Again, in thinking you know what I thought of Bush, you presume too much.

I hold each president accountable for his own actions. Libya is Obama's debacle. Period.

What about Iraq? Was that W's debaucle? - Yes or no? nm

I hear there was a "meeting" between Hillary, Obama, and Biden last Friday afternoon after the VP debate. I DO know that Hillary is a liar - remember when she said snipers shot at her plane during a landing some place overseas while other people on the plane said that didn't happen. Sorry, the details on this escape me, but I'm sure it could be googled.

I guess we know one thing...Obama is cowering behind Hillary's skirt/pantsuit.

Thank you.

Her palms were greased to take all the blame - bribe probably to ensure bid in 2016

I like that you can make a false statement and pronounce it like it's the gospel.

Maybe you can help me write my next resume. I do think it needs more *color*.

They're both responsible, and no candidate these days - needs endorsement to run. Silly. Look at Mitt.

[ In Reply To ..]
No one wanted him except a few fellow Mormons. Certainly no political power group endorsed him. He purchased his own way into the primaries, and when he won the entire Republican leadership and most of the rank and file were horrified. Yet here we are, ranks closed behind him, decimated but there.

One man, standing alone, with a lot less going for him at the start than Hillary would bring to a primary campaign.

Nonsense. Is it slander or still libel on line? NM - nm
