Third Reich:The Rise and Third Reich: The Fall. I found it very interesting, although the filming was pretty awful with all that flashing. The films were made by the German people. The Rise was the history and reasons of how Hitler came into power. It almost parallels the conditions in the U.S. today.
The Fall showed some known facts about Hitler and his armies, but it also showed how tough the German civilians had it during and after the war. I knew that Hitler got so desperate during the end that he forced children and those up to 60 years old to fight, but I didn't know that the children's ages were as low as 13! I also didn't know that the German civilians practically starved to death, that they had trouble finding food for 3 years after the war. I had seen some films years ago of the German people trying to dig out of a bombed Berlin, but did not know that they didn't receive any help from any country, including ours, and that it took them until 1980 to rebuild their country. I also didn't know that the civilians were forced to walk through the Dauchau (sp) concentration camp while the dead were still there! What a horrible experience for them, and yet, they had let it happen, which was the reason they were forced to walk through there in the first place.
All in all, the series was an eye-opening experience. If you can stand to see death/dead bodies, and the rest of it, I would urge everyone to watch this program when it comes on again.
