A waste of time in our courts? Didn't we all think she would be granted assylum?

President Obama’s “Auntie Zeituni”, who was discovered by The Times living illegally in Boston, was granted asylum in America yesterday in a controversial decision that will fuel the already charged debate on illegal immigrants.

A judge ruled that Zeituni Onyango, 57, the Kenyan half-sister of President Obama’s late father, would be allowed to stay in the country despite ignoring a 2004 deportation order.

Ms Onyango received the notification by mail three months after she turned up in a wheelchair to testify before an immigration judge at a closed-door hearing in Boston. The rationale for the judge’s decision was not made public.

She made a previous unsuccessful application for asylum, based on violence in her native Kenya, after which she was ordered out of the US

I guess for a very long time, so long that it would be a real hardship for her to be "transplanted" back to Kenya again.
The immigration authorities should have "caught" her earlier, I think the judge took this fact into consideration when making the judgment.

It sure helped to have relatives in high places.

I don't care how long someone is in this country illegally. If they are caught, they should be sent back unless they have an ABSOLUTE reason; i.e., threats of being killed if they return.

Her reason that she's afraid because of all the fighting in Kenya does not hold water with me. Was she threatened? She didn't state it. If everybody leaves their country because of civil war, there wouldn't be any countries left, now would there? The line has to be drawn somewhere.

The reasons are legally confidential. No one has to disclose their reasons for being granted asylum - to the public

It is more bothersome that being born on American soil makes you American, and; therefore, illegals having their children here is our main problem. Not only are their children eligible for government assistance, the parents are allowed to stay because of the children.

IMHO, the laws about birth on American soil should have been changed a long time ago. But this would be messing with the constitution. Jus soli...fooey.

But it won't just cover the parents with children born here, it will be for all. They will state the aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents,etc. will be so sad if they 'can never see their relatives again (am I stretching this a bit? Maybe.)'

I heard a tidbit this morning where CA may want to make illegals eligible to vote. How against the law is that? But, those running the state and federal goverments don't seem to care about laws anymore, just how many votes they can get.

Would be nice if people could realize that the constitution needs - some updating

Many other countries have amended or abolished jus soli because of illegal aliens. Some never adopted it in the first place.

Why give people living here illegally an instant citizenship while other immigrants are trying to do it the proper way? All this does is show immigrants that if you do it illegally, you will eventually get rewarded so don't jack with doing it the proper way.

Yes, those people will start paying taxes but the amount of tax money received by them will not cover the money going out in gov't assistance to them. The only reason democrats care about immigrants is because they want their vote....point blank. They are using them for their vote and willing to destroy our country to get their vote.

I cannot even believe that people in our country are even considering giving people who aren't citizens the right to vote. Illegals seem to have more rights than we do. This is utter nonsense.
